NFL Greatest Games Series - 1985 Chicago Bears (DVD, 2007)

There are only a handful of professional sports teams that appear to stand above all the rest in historic fashion. One of those teams is the 1985 Chicago Bears. With supermen like Walter Payton, Mike Singletary, and Richard Dent along with ultra-personalities such as William "The Refrigerator" Perry, Jim McMahon and Otis Wilson, "Da Bears" established themselves as arguably the greatest NFL team in league history. They smashed their weekly foes with embarrasing force and scoring at will every opportunity that presented itself. Offense. Defense. Special teams. When a Chicago Bears versus (fill in the blank) game was on the television in 1985, people all over the country were glued to the set. A team of attitude, swagger, almost innocent arrogance, would take the gridiron every seven days and everyone who was a fan could identify with one or more of the players on a personal level. Head coach, Mike Ditka and Assistant Buddy Ryan added to the lure of the legacy by being two rough and tumble grown men who did not agree on much, but somehow made it work for at least a season. Wether you liked the powerhouse, grind it out, running game of Payton and Matt Suhey, or the finesse of speedsters Willie Gault and Dennis Gentry hauling in a defense crushing bomb from the arm of Jim McMahon, you had to love the Bears offense. And when they were done, you couldn't get out of your chair because here comes the defense. Led by "Samurai" Mike Singletary, the ferocious Chicago "D" was relentless in their pursuit in not only stopping whatever offense was put in front of them, but embarrasing them in a fashion seen only by a handful of guys spread over the league here and there. A whole team. Every position on defense was like cloning several Jack Lambert's, or Mean Joe Green's to devour every play as the ball was snapped. They hit harder. They ran faster. And most importantly they played smarter than any other team before them.....and at the end, they won on the biggest stage in the world......the Super Bowl.
Only one loss on Monday Night Football to a mediocre Miami Dolphins team hinders the argument of "Greatest Team Ever".
Statistically, the '85 Bears are leaps and bounds above their closest competitors. But statistics and arguments are absolutely meaningless in comparison to watching them with your own eyes, take the field in 1985, and dominate like they did. The only thing that could make this dvd collection any better, would be to include the other six games missing from the season.

I love this DVD and so does my husband. What can I say, it's the 85 Bears................Awesome to watch!
