This was a delightful look at small towns and sports, in a nutshell. Mystery Alaska is a village that takes its hockey very seriously, with the team composed only of village members. A mention of their prowess gets a pro hockey team, the legendary New York Rangers, stirred up enough to throw down a challenge and the race is on to prepare for the biggest game in Mystery's history! Russell Crowe gives a terrific performance as the recently demoted captain, and the rest of the cast shine through as well in the offbeat, eccentric, and quirky personalities of Mystery's population. You don't even have to love hockey to enjoy this movie (which I know, as I know about as little as a person possibly can about the sport). The ending is not the typical ending in a movie of this formula, but I don't want to spoil it, just to report that is was a refreshing change. A comic bit of fluff, worthy of renting but not strong enough to definitely warrant a purchase.

This is a good hockey movie but there are some parts that aren't appropriate for kids. There is also some strong language throughout. The hockey game at the end is inspirational and not too violent. Although it is one of the better hockey movies it is not as good or as family friendly as Miracle.

This is one of the great unadvertized Hockey movies in the last few years. If you liked Miracle you will love this. I don't usually care for Russel Crowe but he is great in this role.

This movie was very well produced, lot of stars in it also (Burt Reynolds, the guy from Star Trek The Next Generation-forget his name, Little Richards singing both the Canadian and American anthems and more!)I would HIGHLY recommend this movie- the only drawback to this movie is that it does contain some swearing in it, so if that offends you then it may not be for you.

I have seen this movies probably 7 times. We love the hockey theme. We have it on VHS and upgraded to DVD. We don't buy very many movies much less replace them with DVD we have to really like it.

I am not a huge fan of hockey, but I absolutely loved this movie. Although, it is rated R for a reason so some of the content may not be suitable for younger children. However, Russell Crowe, Burt Reynolds, Kevin Durand, etc.. are excellent in this movie. Some of their interactions are down right hilarious. This is an excellent comedy that will almost certaintly have you jumping out of your seats for the Mystery, Alaska's hockey team.

Great film. An instant classic for hockey fas along the lines of slapshot etc... This is a must have for any hockey fan to add to their video collection. This film has a little bit of everything... hockey, sex, violence, fantasy, the list goes on and on. I truly cannot say enough good things about this film

Mystery, AlaskaLoved the movie. One of those movies where you walk away feeling uplifted and refreshed. Russell Crowe puts in a great performance, as always, but has nothing over the supporting cast. Great ensemble!

I added this video to my Russell Crowe collection. I had rented it before because I love hockey and feel-good stories, so I couldn't lose. Russell Crowe is so convincing in each of his movies, because he totally becomes the character and draws you into his character. Love this movie.

Mystery Alaska, not just another sports movieThis is an outstanding movie, although there's not as much hockey as I'd like. The characters are funny, but they grapple with realistic life issues and come up with solutions that show values that I, as a parent, can agree with. Even the extramarital sex becomes a means to teach a lesson about trust. Highly recommend it!
