My Word Coach Improve Your Vocabulary
Review created: 11/08/07
10 of 11 people found this review helpful.

Just got My Word Coach Today 10/08/07 So far it is a excellent game. It takes a little time to get setup. Some times the game has a hard time recognizing certain letter like N so make sure you practice. "Enjoyable activities include word recognition, spelling challenges, and vocabulary definition, including 16,800 words from the Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary" So far I have loved the game. It not only lets you learn to spell the words but it also makes sure you know what the definition are. I will write another review after I have played it even more. In a few months the company will be putting out My Life Coach and it sounds like a great game as well.

Enjoy

Fun & Educational - a great game on the go!

What I liked about MY WORD COACH:

~~Very easy to start it up and start playing...didn't need to read an instruction booklet to understand the games or controls

~~Great variety of words, from easy to medium to difficult (about 17,000 words)

~~Definitions of the words are included (after the game you are playing is finished) so it's not just 'some word' you get familiar with seeing, you can learn what the word is and how to use it in a sentence

~~Improves your spelling

~~Improves your language comprehension

~~Improves your vocabulary

~~Improves your thinking and reaction speed

~~6 different word games (all fun) with 3 levels of difficulty, as well as the ability to do a multi-player option with other players on other DS systems, wirelessly

~~You can have up to 3 player profiles saved on one game, or log-on as a guest

~~You can choose the on-screen character (coach), which is a little bonus, but appreciated by me, as sometimes the host character on some games can be really annoying.

~~One of those games that you can play for about 15 minutes a day, and that's enough for your daily training...you don't have to play it for hours and hours at a time to make progress (and if you're a student or an adult...who has that kind of time to spend with a video game?)

~~Great for a wide range of ages! From higher grade elementary (say, age 10 and up) through high school, through college/university and beyond. Even if you're already quite articulate

____________________________________________________________________________

What I didn't like about MY WORD COACH:

~~It would be nice if there was an option to hear the word spoken aloud

~~Sometimes the writing-recognition has difficulty with your printing and doesn't know what letter you're trying to write. It takes a little practice to learn the best way to write particular letters (so that the game understands you right away) but for the most part I didn't find this to be a huge problem

~~I wish it were more difficult

~~It spells in "American" English (ex.color, not colour) even if you tell it that you live in Canada or the UK

~~If you're left-handed, some of the games may be difficult for you to pay as they require you to write on the right-hand side screen

I hope that you found this review to be useful and informative.

Thank you

Ever felt like you were at loss for words? This will help you regardless of age! My Word Coach is a excelent game to improve you vocabulary and have a blast at the same time. Fun for everyone at every age.The word building games and lessons are stimulating. It can pick up on words you have trouble with and help you improve in problem areas. It offers plenty of encouragement and you can truely learn new words in about ten minutes of use a day.The game has graphs to keep track of your progress. Up to three people can make their own user profiles and keep track of their scores, and look at each other's as well!
Fun helpful game !

I like this game. It's great for building vocabulary while enjoying a nice break from school/work/whatever. The mini games really encourage me to remember and understand the words better and faster. And when you completed your daily goal, it makes me feel like I have accomplished something and keeps me come back the next day for more fun. I love this game and my DS lite.

Definitions are Just Okay, but Still Actually Works!
Review created: 03/01/08(updated 03/05/08)

My Word Coach for Nintendo DS/DS Lite helps you improve your vocabulary. The games are fun and educational! The two best games I think are Split Decision and Word Shuffle because they incorporate the definition with the word. Pasta Letters and Safe Cracker also incorporate the definitions, but they are a little harder. There are many words to learn and this is a fun way to help your brain, your writing, and your speech. For me, the letter recognition is very good most of the time. You also get to choose your own coach character. Each is fun...my favorite is Penny, the little poet girl.

What I don't like is how the definitions of words don't tell you whether it is a noun, verd, adjective, etc. Sometimes the definitions are wordy and a context is put into the definition which I don't like. It would be much better if along with the definition of a word, it gave an example sentence...it does not do this. Despite this, I think it is still worth buying.

I recommend this game to anyone wanting to improve their vocabulary and to anyone who wants an educational game for their kids. I wish they had this when I was younger!

This game is a fun challenging way to improve your vocabulary. It has different games varying from spelling to definitions and word searches. The more you play the more games and difficulty levels you earn. It keeps your brain active.

There are a few challenges that I don't care for as the pasta letters medium level lchallenge (word spelling) - the letters disappear why you are trying to spell the word. Safe cracker you compete against the computer in spelling the word from the definition of the word. It's tough

All in all I like the game for the fun, learning and relaxation.

Don't have a lot of time to read the newspaper and magazines to hone your word comprehension? This a perfect makeshift tool to keep your vocabulary broad without the undue stress often experienced by reading.

  Challenging for anyone!

With my Word Coach you'll have fun while learning new things. It's perfect for any level of education or any age!

I just bought the game and decided before I could fully write a reveiw to my word coach, I had to know how it was. So I play I ended up playing it for 40 minutes which made me decide that it was a fun, interactive game for anyone who wishes to increase their spelling and knowledge of words.

I wouldn't suggest it for younger kids. My word coach is diffently for someone disclipined enough to want to learn and play it everyday.

I'm a post college graduate and am amazed at the vocabulary I am learning. In addition, the games require quick thinking. Each lesson takes about 30 minute, great for when I'm waiting for my kids after school or sporting events. I no longer complain when Ihave to wait. I just wish the words could actually be heard.

I have been a professional writer for over thirty years. Imagine my surprise when I saw words I have never encountered. The variety of games aren't that fantastic but you will increase your spelling and vocabulary skills if you use Word Coach regularly. On a scale of one to ten for being a positive learning experience I'd give it an eight. It would rate it higher but many of the words you will never use.

What I like most about this game is that it allows the player to have fun and challenge him/herself while learning at the same time. It starts you up slow and let you build up your vocab without intimidation of learning new things. If you like learning while having fun, give it a shot!

This has been a great product to help my daughter with her words and how to use them and how to spell them. She does not have a problem playing on her ds with this game, but put words on paper and she wont do it. So if you are having trouble with your kids get them this, it will help. thanks chris

While I was looking for something to challenge my vocabulary when I bought My Word Coach, I have to admit that I was a little disappointed. It really is not meant for an adult level. Some of the liitle games on it are fun, though, and it does offer a little refresher.

  Fun Vocabulary Refresher
Review created: 07/12/09

I might be too literary for the broad spectrum this game was designed to entertain - I don't find it very challenging. Its not to say that it isn't fun, it has cute games. But I find it a little limiting, I get thru my "daily quota" to fast to spend much time with this game, its designed to not add more words at a set point. However the characters for coaching are neat. I find this to be a game I unwind with. If you want a fun verbal challenge pick up a "My (any language) Coach" instead. But if you are just looking to dust off your skills with our american english have at it (no grammer lessons involved).

Well it encourages your kids to enrich their vocabulary in a fun and challenging way, I feel my kid is actually doing something positive rather than playing a game. sometimes I play it and kind of like it.
