First off, I would like to clarify that this isn't exactly a "game" per say, but more like a personal health assistant you can carry with you wherever you go. The "game" comes packaged with a pedometer that allows you to upload your steps by connecting to the DS via the GBA slot. A fairly novel idea don't you think?

For what it is it offers an extremely nice package and contains a bit more depth than what you would expect from the "self improvement on the go" trend that has been redundantly multiplying on the DS.

Aside from being able to measure your step distance in accordance to real life milestones(such as the great wall of China), it allows you to measure things like BMI(body mass index), which any health nut will know is based on a calculated balance between your weight and height. It then uses these calculations to determine what is a good goal for you to pursue and whether you should lose, gain or maintain your current weight. You will get a set number, which is based on your metabolism. This number will determine how much or how little you should eat to maintain a balanced diet in accordance to the goal you have set for yourself. You get a fairly broad list of different food items to choose to feed to your little stick figure trainer and each of those food items has a preset value of energy units(each unit representing approximately 50 calories). So as you feed your little stick character the things you eat throughout your day, the required energy units you need for the day slowly count down until they reach zero, which is supposed to equate to a balanced diet for the day based on your metabolism.

Along with the meal goals, it gives you a full set of various activities and exercises. For example, if you walked around and shopped for 2 hours, that would equate to a full two extra energy units you would need to make up for the energy you spent. So guess what? You can eat more to compensate for that energy expenditure, giving you a little personal motivation to do more activities so that you can possibly eat more food without the extra side of guilt with that.

You are also given several challenges you can perform throughout your day which is broken up into a few categories, one being the "minute challenge, and another being the "24 hour challenge". Basically the minute challenge is a quick challenge you can do right at the moment(like 15 jumping jacks), while the 24 hour challenge offers you a task to complete throughout the day(like taking the stairs instead of the elevator for a day). At other times you may be given a mystery challenge which won't show itself until you have obligated yourself to complete it, a neat little aspect to help keep things interesting.

So overall I give this game an excellent rating. For health freaks like me, it's perfect for how disorganized I am. Not only do I have a personal nutritionist to gauge what I eat, I also have a journal to record my weight and fluctuating BMI. You are able to backtrack several months back to any particular day to see exactly what you were eating as to diagnose any possible cause for those fluctuations. The game is indeed true to it's title, and I recommend it to anyone who is interesting in not only bettering their health, but also their overall lifestyles.

Good way to help you set healthy goals and develop good habits. Lots of great tips. The programs is simple to use but you have to use it at least once a day for it to be really useful, which is tough nowadays. The program itself is very whimsical and at times funny. The pedometer is a bit large but seems to work well. Its a great product if you can stick with the tasks that it suggests for you. I guess only time will tell if it works.

A Bit Too Cute for Me

The goal of this "game" is to establish healthier eating and exercise habits. There is nothing deep or terribly difficult about it. The stick figure is very cute and gently presses you to make committments one day at a time. A little too much fluff and cuteness for my tastes but if you're looking for a gentle approach without a lot of things to remember then this is a good choice!

I bought a NDS game – My Weight Loss coath a couple of months ago and I really like the game, witch is more of a manual för slowly changing your lifestyle. The Pedometer includet workes fine, but it is so big! Is looks like you're wearing a minitank by your belt. I left it at home after a few days 'couse it was in the way at work. But nice on long walks! But the game was easy to understand and you get exited when presented with new chalanges etc. Overall, I'd recommend the game if you want to make small, but important steps to change your lifestyle and slowly and healthy loose weight..

I like this game. It has some good wight loss tips, you can use the game with or without the pedometer. It gives you more challenges as you proceed in the game. The only thing that I don't like is logging you food. There are not enough choices for meals. So, I just guess as what is close to the calories of what I ate. Overall, it is a cute game, to use as you lose weight or work to get healthy.

  Weight Loss Fun

All I can say is this really motivates me to do better and to walk more. The little characteur is really uplifting with your daily session and coaching. I am enjoying walking more and entering your food makes you more accountable for what you are putting in your body. The pedometer is a bit big but the fact that it uploads your steps into the game is cool. I would recommend this to anyone like me who needs to lose weight but has no motivation.

Its a great idea to have a program like this and if someone needs the motivation of being able to track your progress and get immediate feedback is important, then this game is for you.
I do not like that there are very few foods to choose from when it comes to trying to balance your diet. It is very hard to do using the system they have in the program.
The challenges and ideas for making exercise more fun is a good idea and it is fun to do.

The Pedometer is cheap and large. It measures well but takes a bit of adjusting some days to get it to work--longer the strides the better it measures.

Overall I think it an OK program. More food choices and maybe a few recipes would make it a VERY GOOD program rather than just Average in my mind.

I have only used it for a few days and like it so far. IT holds you accountable for what you do and makes you aware of what you do/eat everyday. You have to think about it. It also gets you in the habbit of doing something a little more everyday and helps you do more. I love the minute challanges and 24 hr challenges.

It's really unique, and cute.
It teaches and gives you fun things to do. I really do like it!
I like how it includes a pedometer and you can log in and see if you've improved. I wish on the food section they had more options, because sometimes some of the foods aren't on there and you get an inaccurate food count which throws you off sometimes.
All in all though I really like how the system runs.

  Not for Nintendo DSi
Review created: 10/08/09

Pedometer is rather large and won't fit easily in a pocket and hangs bulkly on the side of pant bottoms, and does not fit in any slot with the DSi. Tips are great, but I found using it daily is tough.

  Pedometer Required for Full Usage
Review created: 10/05/09
by:

The actual program is kind of cool, but it's very difficult to use it properly without the pedometer. Make sure that you only bid on items with the pedometer. I was shipped the game without it (even though seller listed it as coming with the pedometer), and ended up having to return it because it wasn't worth using without it.

The stick figure's noises can get kind of annoying. If you really have difficulty fitting walking into your daily schedule, then this program might not be for you. Also, its food tracker is more of an estimate, so I think there would be a lot of room for error if you eat items that are different than what's listed or prepared differently than the dishes they used for counting how many calories are in one serving. It's also annoying that you can only track things once a day instead of as you eat it, and if you try to enter it in after midnight for the day that just ended, you're out of luck!

Overall, I think it's a good little program, especially for those who want a little help with their food and fitness without having to obsessively count calories or pay a professional service. It gives you obtainable goals and a fun, small-step challenges to meet those goals.

Alternatively, if you have an iPhone, you can download this same program as an App (your iPhone works as the pedometer, so one less thing to carry around) for a LOT cheaper (it was on sale for $.99 when I bought it). Plus, you can have it immediately (instead of waiting for the seller to ship it) and you don't run the risk of your seller shipping the game but not the pedometer.

Where Has This Been All My Life?
Review created: 10/01/09

I have tried everything! SO that's why I decided to try a 'game' next. This game is NOT aimed at dieting to lose weight. It's aimed at changing your diet and habits to become balanced and healthy. I lost 16lbs in about 2 1/2 weeks on this, I've changed bad habits and developed good ones, and I couldn't be happier! I can see that I will never gain it back if I continue to "play"... WOW!!!

  Lacking motivation
Review created: 09/05/09
by:

I gave this an average rating but I think I just don't want to be mean. I am currently trying to loose weight. The coach is a stick figure! A cartoon stick figure not an actual person who can talk to you. Im having a hard time with motivation and this game did nothing to help with my lack of motivation. If you are highly motivated with an open mind this may be fun and help you. If you are needing something to really jump out and get your attention save your money.

Weight Loss Coach is only for beginers!
Review created: 07/14/09

The concept is there for the steps to be in place towards a healthier lifestyle. However, it should be marketed more towards beginers vs. someone who has already been in Weight Watchers or some other structured program.

  NOT FOR DSI
Review created: 07/01/09
by:

This is a great workout program however there are 2 problems that I had.
1. I asked for New and not used I do not believe that the seller intended to deceive anyone but just like any search engines like Yahoo & Google when asking for new the search engine also included things such as "like new" so if you are looking for something Brand new look carefully at the item description. Unfortunately for me this is somethisg I wish I had done previously.
2. By for the biggest disappointment was the fact that in order to get the full experience that the game designers intended you must have a Nintendo DS or DS Lite and not the newer DSI because the pedometer that is included must be inserted into the GameBoy Advance slot while the "My Weight Loss Coach Game cartridge is in the DS portion of the system in order to track your progress. While I am little disappointed with what happened in Statement 1. it turned out to be a blessing in disguise because it allowed be to know for sure that the game will still work for the DSI but you will not be able to record any results with the pedometer. So my recommendation for anyone using the newer DSI version is for you get a used copy of the game without the pedometer or buy a nintendo DS/DS Lite to get the full expereince of the game.

  Gets you moving!!!
Review created: 06/18/09

After reading other reviews, I decided to buy this. I love it! It gives you realistic challenges and obtainable goals. I am about 100 lbs overweight and it set goals like "walk 6000 steps today" and "weight loss goal for this month: 5lbs" I lost five pounds in the first two days! It gets you moving, gets you thinking about what you eat, and is just fun! The animated person is cute and makes it more of game. Overall, I recommend this for anyone that needs motivation and help counting "energy" consumed and used!

I really enjoy the My Weight Loss Coach for the Nintendo DS. It keeps track of your eating habits and exercise, makes suggestions, and gives you goals to shoot for. It's also simple and takes only a few minutes a day. I've only had it a couple weeks and I'm already adopting healthier eating and exercise habits.

If I was a hopeless couch potatoe this may have jump started me into fitness but I think the program is rather elementary and the food diary is a joke. The pedometer is cumbersome and easy to reset. I like the challenges but that's about it.
