Three years after his debut album, 18 year-old Usher returns with a newly mature, seductively smooth voice, and a palpable sense of self confidence. What remains so appealing about Usher's soulful crooning and sexy whisper, however, is a youthful freshness and vibrancy. This unpretentious approach is felt throughout the album in the simple, clean production, especially on songs like the Babyface-produced ballad "Bedtime," which has lovely background vocals by Shanice Wilson. Funkier, more up-tempo songs include the title track, an R&B-tinged song endearingly lacking the slightest hint of humility: "from this day forth you know I'm all about heat/And what I do be the major league/That's why your girlfriend's paging me."

I actually chose this particular CD because it reminds me of my teenage years and the love of my life. I'm female so you girls know what I'm talking about. Sentimental mushy stuff. I do like Usher however. I like going back in time and reliving the past sometimes. I purchased it from ebay, because I love it! I can stay connected and find just about anything I want at any time. This CD will always be special to me, but even my 19 year old sister likes it!

1997's 'My Way' by Usher came out before he became the big star he is today. it showcases his talent earlier on.

Usher's Way = "Freak You Right" + "Get It Off" - A Little Creepy?

Pros:
Simply a great R&B record that flows wonderfully from song to song.

Cons:
Raise your hand if you find an eighteen-year-old singing about sex just a little unhinged!!

The Main Idea: After a disappointing debut record, Usher redefined his sound and released his sophomore effort, My Way, in 1997. The album was an immediate success, and it's easy to see why. My Way's sound is more mature and grown-up than Usher's first record and introduces many hip-hop elements, courtesy of executive producer Jermaine Dupri. It's smooth and soulful, but its lyrical content can be a bit unsettling when sung by a teenager. That's my only qualm with this record because everything else about it is excellent. The vocals, production, instrumentals, and the less provocative lyrics..

Usher's My Way: Overnight Sensation
Review created: 08/02/07

Pros:
You Make Me Wanna might still be his most recognizable song.

Cons:
Not enough to follow up the hot single.

In 1994, little known Usher Raymond released an album that was produced by Sean "Puffy" Combs. It went brick. With less than 100,000 in sales, young 16 year old Usher was just a footnote in music history. Except that Jermaine Dupri and LaFace Records came along and saved him. In 1997, the then 19 year old Usher (no last name needed) released a track called You Make Me Wanna. People went wild. Girls were throwing their panties at their radios. Guys started to hate him. And Usher was born. You Make Me Wanna was that song that seemingly anyone who had a crush on someone else could relate to. The.

Pros:
Wonderful voice; moving words; really enjoyable.

Cons:
Redundant themes; repetitive bragging.

At 18, Usher Raymond was just breaking out as a talented and popular R

Pros:
Great lyrics, good production and very polished R&B

Cons:
One really boring track

Before 2004 rolled along and Usher became one of the biggest superstars in R

Pros:
Affordable Aphrodisiac

Cons:
back cover

I have much respect for Usher. The man was playing for real before being a "player" was cool. All true players know the effect that Usher has on females and, as such, "My Way" never leaves the changer in the Lex. This album contains some of the smoothest jams of the nineties. I'm talking "Nice and Slow", "Bedtime", "My Way", and "Slow Jam". Trust me, when its 7 o'clock on the dot and you're in your drop-top cruising the streets with your woman there's nothing like a little Usher to set the mood. But seriously folks, "My Way" is the only R and B album I own and that should tell you something...
