  A Very Heartwarming Movie
Review created: 12/03/09(updated 12/03/09)

What a wonderful movie this was.

The movie deals with Kate (Sofia Vassilieva from the TV show MEDIUM) who has cancer. When her mother and father (Cameron Diaz and Jason Patric) find out they are not compatible with her and nether is their son Jesse (Evan Ellingson) they 'Manufacture" another child, Anna, played by Abigail Breslin (Bridge to Teribithia) for the sole purpose of using her body to harvest organs and bone marrow for her sister. At age 11, Kate has reached a critical juncture in her life and needs an organ transplant, Anna decided to hire a lawyer (Alex Baldwin) to emancipate herself from her parents so they can no longer use her body to harvest organs for her older sister.

The story is outstanding, the characters are portrayed in a way that you grow to love them each individually and you cannot help but fell their sorrow and their joy. The wonderful part of this story is character played by Sofia Vassilieva. She plays this role to perfection and you feel everything that she feels while she battles the cancer that she knows will eventually kill her.

The movie also stars Joan Cusack as the judge who presides over Anna’s case.

Get this movie and enjoy it with someone you love, and be sure to have a full box of tissues nearby, you will need them.

Recommended for anyone who loves an outstanding movie.

  Excellent, but sad
Review created: 12/02/09

If you've read Jodi Picoult's novel on which this film is based, you will be prepared for a sad ending. And you will get it...but it's not the same sad ending as the book! Since both the book and the film are well worth your time, I won't spoil either ending --- and you'll need your kleenex for both. The story involves a 15-year-old girl who is dying of leukemia and kidney failure. Her sister, 11, sues for medical emancipation so she won't have to keep donating body parts. Both girls are convincingly played by amazing young actresses. Given the nature of the story, there's no possibility of a happy ending; so my question is, why change it at all? I suspect the original ending, if filmed, would be too horrific for mainstream audiences, while the new ending at least lets SOME of the characters get what they want. I don't want to say more. I recommend you read the book AND see the film, and decide for yourself which ending is better.
