This movie doesn't even follow the story that Jean Craighead George created at all. For one thing the falcon gets shot in the movie and in the book the falcon lives until the end. Another thing is that in the movie he came to the mountains to do research when in the book he just came because he wanted to. The movie combines characters, they combined Bando and the person who was a songwriter. Don't Buy!!

I seen this movie when i was 10 years old and i loved it. This is the kind of movie that will stick with you for the rest of your life, if you are the tip of person that loves the out doors. (KEVIN ELLIS of NORTH CAROLINA)

Great movie! I watched this movie and read the book about 14 years ago in school. I loved it. Now I got it for my son to watch. I'm now 28 and my girlfriend is 26 and we both love the movie. This was her first time seeing it. Probably only book I read in school. The movie was originally made I believe in 1969, but it's great.

  Simple but charming
Review created: 11/02/08

This movie is not the fast paced adventure that is common today. The pace and theme appeals to those who yearn for simple times, and freedom from the chaos of this world. A boy who wants something different than the rushing pace of urban life, and the growing up inside of what really matters. I found this to be refreshing, and wanted to do the same thing even 40 years ago, even more so now. Sounds hokey to some, but if your heart yearns for better days, a simplier life, and freedom from the hurt caused by society, this story might appeal to you. With God's promise and help, better days ARE ahead!

I am teaching summer school and we read the book and so I thought the kids would like to see the movie. Similar to the book but some differences that the kids picked up on. Great to use for compare/contrast lessons.

  Truly an educational movie.

I read the book in 1977 and I enjoyed it. I recently watched the movie and decided I must have it. This is an excellent movie. There is no profanity or obscenity what so ever. That is always a positive for me.

We read the book first, and we were disappointed in the movie being so different than the movie! That's why we always read the book first! My oldest son actually got up and left the room he was so disgusted that it changed so much. If you haven't read the book, then you'll like the movie!

Untrue to book, but still a good movie!

The other reviewer was correct that the movie does not stay true to the book, which is sad, but for a good family film, this movie is still a great watch! It's clean, fun and interesting. The book is better then the film, as most books usually are in my opinion, but don't just pass this movie up because a few things changed.
