  ROSE IN THE HALL

He bet on baseball and lied about it. Sure that's unforgivable and he shouldn't be in the hall of fame...AS A BASEBALL MANAGER. But Pete Rose was a great baseball player...CHARLIE HUSTLE. I am a Phillie fan and I can tell you that we would have never made it to the World Series without him. Pete Rose needs to be judge on his playing career and not his managing career. He got a bum rap and deserves to be in the Hall of Fame!

Good value, good read - Pete should be in the HOF
Review created: 12/20/09

Good read - Pete should be in the HOF, he played hard and played well. I spoke to him in Vegas twice, agreed cocky and arrogrant - but he had that attitude on the field I watched him play in Cincy for 2 years. Cocky made him the great player that he was. Marge was also a good owener - you had to know her and watch her sign for the kids. Again Pete should be in the HOF , he apologized to late -

  Charlie Hustle's Story

Michael Vick is eligible to go back to the NFL, yet the King of Hustle is forever banned, Mr. Rose was shafted and he tells you why in this book. Pete Rose is issued a lifetime ban from the sport and livelihood that he loves for making a mistake. In this book he tells his story. It offers a different perspective from that of mainstream media.

My Prison Wwithout Bars by Pete Rose

Being from Cincinnati, I was curious what Pete had to say regarding his gambling habits. It gave good insight to this problem and several other issues he has dealt with in his life. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would highly recommend it to anyone - male or female.

  "MY PRISON WITHOUT BARS"
Review created: 08/05/07

I mostly purchased this book because I have been a long-time fan of Pete Rose and own a large collection of Pete Rose memorabilia, including cards from various years, stickers, photos and other items. I figured that this book should be a part of my collection.
I feel bad for Pete Rose, because even though he may have made a huge mistake by betting on his own team, he earned his stats without a doubt. He belongs in the Hall of Fame and anyone can say that his error should keep him out, but I believe his winnings should put him in. He is a major baseball in the History of the sport. He had to work hard to achieve what he accomplished and I feel that he should not be denied.
People make mistakes, but no one wants to give him a new start. I believe in forgive and forget. Move on and let him use his error to teach others about playing the game the way it should be played and NOT doing things that can cause you years of heartache.
He has paid his dues, but he can't get back to where he belongs because no one will give him a chance to. He has been in a "Prison without Bars" and must stay there because no one wants to forgive him.
Come on people. This man has given a lot to the sport and should be allowed to share his knowledge thru the Hall of Fame.
I feel really bad for him.
Most people do their prison time and then, maybe parole, but then they put it behind them and move forward. Pete Rose is being confined for life because of his mistake.
I am sure others have done the same or worse, they just weren't a big icon who needed to be used to teach a lesson.

  Charlie Hustle uncovered
Review created: 02/03/07

This book was about so much more than just betting on baseball. So he bet on baseball.....big deal! The commissioner had it in for him. At least he never bet against his team! What about guys taking steroids and still being allowed to play ..... now thats a big deal! Pete is an honest guy he just grew up betting on the horses legally like his dad did. Great insight on how he grew up and why he was such a competitor. The problems he faced in everyday life. Even though he was a huge star he was a regular guy. Great reading.

Pete Rose wants to be in HOF

Ok,he first lies outright to the baseball commissioner about his betting on baseball,it takes all these years for him to tell the truth about his involvement and he expects people to forgive him.Does he deserve to be in the HOF?No!!!!There are a lot of players in the HOF who are not by any means angels-racist Ty Cobb comes to mind, however,he broke one of baseball's strictest rules, and first lied about it.
One thing about Barry Bonds, sure he's despicable, sure he lied about steroid abuse,however,baseball-like no other sport, has always been lax-until recently-about it's steroid policy mainly because of it's not wanting to anger the player's union. Many of the steroids Barry have been taking were actually legal and drug tests were few and fae between before the current uproar over this.
Is Barry Bonds a scumbag for cheating using steroids?Of course! However, not only Barry is to blame but MLB and the San Francisco Giants to turning a blind eye to this.
