My Name Is Bill W. (DVD, 2006)

Probably one of the most life saving dvd's on this planet. Bill and Bob foiund a way to save millions of lives and to put those lives to Good Purpose. They deserve a continual TV series but the DVD will have to suffice to to tell the Good Story.

The movie is not derived from Susan Cheever's book which was published in 2004. The movie was made for television debuted in 1989. It was available in VHS format till June of 2006. For those interested; the movie is taken from Bill's Story from the book Alcoholics Anonymous and Susan Cheever's book is a more in depth biography of the man.

I bought it as a friend of the title character and it is a great movie. I am 100% satisfied and highly recommend to all of his friends and people who know his friends. It is a great inspirational piece that is one of the few movies that you can and should watch over and over again. Great movie to watch whether you are feeling down OR up.

A wonderfully acted, extremely accurate story about how Alcoholics Anonymous was formed and how it helps to this day. Written by an Alcoholic, for Alcoholics (especially those people who are in denial), and very helpful in explaining the message of Alcoholics Anonymous.

It's also a very good quality period-piece movie for non-alcoholics also.

This DVD was purchased to replace another one which was literally worn out.

Good movie, well acted. Has an "old-timey" feel to it (takes place in the Great Depression Era). Great flick about the beginnings of AA, so if you're into recovery stuff, check it out!

A great snapshot of the life and work of Bill W. A very important man in my life and in many others who have found help following the 12 steps. Recommended for anyone who need a quick snapshot of where it all began.

I was pleased to see this movie finally released on DVD. Having struggled with alcohol addiction for many years, this story was very close to me on a personal basis. Though the timeline is dated, the message is timeless. Those who still struggle today may be given hope that the 12 step program which started so many years ago will still work today. It's great to see the story of how it began and its origins. This movie isn't "preachy" in its story line, but accurate and very true to life. This movie does a great job of taking Bill W (James Woods) from the beginning of his drinking career through the highs of his life to the depths and despair so many of us have experienced. The extra special features section of this dvd is worth having the dvd in your collection. It will be 3 years on October 31 (Halloween night) that I started my new life without alcohol and I do owe it in great part to the 12 step program of AA. I believe this video is an excellent account of the formation of Bill W. and Dr. Bob's friendship. It is a close account of the early years of alcoholics struggling to learn how to get and remain sober. It also recounts, quite accurately, how Bill W. and Dr. Bob met and how, unknowlingly to them, Alcoholics Anonymous got its beginning.

Becuase It help me to understand all about alcoholic. Just keep it simple. Desire to stop drink. :)It is good movie

The DVD arrived promptly in original box. There were no prblems and the seller fullfilled their part of the contract as advertisd. I would definitely deal with them again.

Bought for my husband who has been in the program for 2 years. We both enjoyed the movie. Bill's life story and struggles by both he and his wife were true to life. The men he brought into the program were helped and look where AA is today...very successful.

I bought 4 as presents for people I sponsor in AA. Two of them wouldn't play, they skipped too much to even enjoy and wouldn't clean up. I got them from different sources and don't know which ones skipped because I wrapped them as presents. I didn't watch all gout before giving them...my bad.

This made-for-tv movie about the founders of Alcoholics Anomymous is a must-see for anyone that has been in AA or had a close friend/relative in AA. James Woods got an Emmy for his performance and Jim Garner was very believable. The two AA founders have had a more profound positive effect on our society than any religion, preacher, or politician!

I bought this movie because I am in college taking classes for Mental Health- substance abuse counseling. It is a very informative movie about how AA got started. I taught that I could learn from it and also some of my future clients could also. The movie lets people know that addiction and alcoholism can touch anyones life. Thank You.

A pretty acurate depiction of events leading up to the creation of AA. Could have done more to explain how bill developed the 12 steps based in part on the Oxford Group Tenants but that probably would have slowed the flow.

All in all, a great movie and a great job as always from James Woods
