A beautiful store of tenderness and family values
This is a keeper -- one of a small collection of DVDs that you will want to see again and again. It closely follows the book by the same name (also a keeper). It tells of a girl who has "different" parents, and how she learns to value them.
Without "rating" it I would say the DVD is suitable for all from about age 10 on. There is one brief mention of the onset of menstruation, done in excellent taste. Perhaps a touch of new-age mysticism (but the matters are factually accurate). There is NO distasteful language, which is something that I find sullies many (most?) otherwise good books and DVDs.
I have seen the DVD perhaps a dozen times, and will see it many times more.
Incidentally, another Keeper, which is not available in DVD is William Faulkner's The Old Man (Hallmark Hall of Fame collection, 1997). I cannot for the life of me understand why that film is so hard to find, and why it is not in DVD.
