Pseudo psycho intellectual babble but worth seeing!

This is not a movie I would ever want to miss. It speaks to the personality type Woody Allen makes reference to (by inference) as being intellectually inane. For those who consider that analysing everything ina a way that suggests you focus on vague insecurities and phoney details and very much think that commentary has value in and of itself if its shrouded with some detail which is descriptive yet empty of real meaning, this is you movie! For those who want to see the spectacle go on for two hours, get in on this one. I have it in my library and find it interesting viewing every now and then. Great investment!

The quality of the tape is fair-poor. There are two erased sections on the tape, and the picture quality is very fuzzy. The seller never replied to my email to correct this matter as he asked me to do if I had a problem.

I won My Dinner With Andre at auction. The film quality was excellent, the price was very fair, and the speed of delivery of the product was swift.

  My Dinner With Andre

This movie consists of a conversation that's a timeless piece, extremely interesting and thought provocating. An excellent move despite the (nowdays) obvious technological changes that could make this movie unappealing (or hilarious) to the younger set. I saw it when it was new years ago, and am glad to have found this copy. Remade DVD's sell for upwards of $90.00 each. That's how appealing this movie remains.

My Dinner with Andrew VHS - An excellent purchase!

My Dinner with Andre is a 1981, hard to find film starring Wallace Shawn (The Princess Bride) and Andre Gregory. It's a very unique film in that the entire story is two men having a conversation at a table for roughly an hour and a half. Depsite this unusual premise, it's an inspiring, thought provoking, enjoyable film, that represents a time when Hollywood was less afraid to take chances. And also a time when New York City still had some of its character. I highly recommend!

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my father, who has been trying to find it for some time. The VHS arrived in good condition and it plays beautifully(though the picture itself is just starting to fade from age). All in all, I am happy with the purchase. Thank you very much!

  My Dinner With Andre
Review created: 06/18/08

A caller on a radio talk-show recommended "My Dinner With Andre", and my investigation into renting the movie led to my discovery that renters were buying the movie rather than returning it..... so it must be much sought after, right? And having to pay so much for a VHS copy left me with great anticipation. In fact, I even had to re-attach my old equipment to play this "great conversation". It was in my mind to invite over several friends and make a party of the viewing. Boy, would I have been embarrassed nodding off a couple of times. There are a couple of interesting moments, but otherwise I was looking in the background of the movie at the waiter of the restaurant where this conversation took place ... and looking at the reflections of the other diners in the mirror behind Wallace Shawn (he was much more amusing in "Princess Bride") and Andre Gregory (hope he is not the major nut-case he portrayed).
Disappointed am I with this very juvenile "art" movie.... surely 12-year-olds have more in-depth conversations than this!!!

  a great talkie
Review created: 02/10/07

When I first saw My Dinner with Andre, I didn't like it. It was the opposite of what I thought a movie should be. It seemed to be all talk and little action or movement (the formula for pure cinema is just the opposite). However, something about it stuck with me, and I was lucky enough to catch it again. The second viewing of this film really paid off. I had my bearings and could follow the conversation as it flows back and forth from the transcendental and almost mystical explorations of Andre to the simple, practical, everyday appreciations of Wally. It suddenly occured to me that what was happening was much more than just an unusual dinner conversation--it was a back and forth between the two great viewpoints of life. There is something wonderfully exciting and courageous about Andre's search for the truth and reality of things as he travels to mountains amd deserts to find it. But there is equally something as exciting and brilliant in Wally's ability to see the miracle of a quiet evening at home (even reading the autobiography of Charlton Heston) or doing his errands and crossing them off the list. Both men are wonderful, and one realizes that this is not just a lot of talk and no action; as with many great artworks, everything is going on just under the surface--all the action is in the realm of ideas, not in physical motion. At the end, like Wally, we come away from the dinner with Andre quite changed for the better. Somehow the world is a little more beautiful, a little more alive, and we are a little more able to see its beauty and appreciate the miracle of it all.
