Album Notes When this album was released in 1987 it was the band's most accessible recording to date. These 23 songs present Jad Fair's singing against an extremely varied musical accompaniment. From the rollicking shuffle of "Big Mistake" to the majestic landscapes of "You Must Obey Me," the album is paced with the flair of drama while maintaining Jad's characteristic exuberant simplicity. It's the band's best recorded album to that point, and the players then comprising the ensemble (or appearing as guests) are highly technically skilled, and are all the while completely in step with Jad's agenda. For anyone unfamiliar with Half Japanese, or uncertain where to begin listening to their sprawling catalog, this album is one of their most effective entry points.
