Album Notes This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. THE O.C. has given exposure to numerous hip alt-rock bands, including Death Cab for Cutie and Interpol, so it's no surprise that the TV show's music supervisor, Alexandra Patsavas, does a fine job in getting the roster right for the holiday-themed MIX 3 - HAVE A MERRY CHRISMUKKAH! (The title refers to a fusion of Christmas and Hanukkah created by characters on the series.) Ben Kweller offers up a rendition of the traditional "Rock of Ages" with just acoustic-guitar accompaniment, while Jimmy Eat World recalls New Order (circa 1993's REPUBLIC) on an imminently catchy reading of George Michael's "Last Christmas." Mark Everett makes like Beck hopped up on eggnog for the Eels' "Christmas Is Going to the Dogs," and the Raveonettes harmonize over a gentle melody on "The Christmas Song." Best of all is Low's 1999 gem "Just Like Christmas," a surprisingly upbeat tune accented by timpani and sleigh bells, with lo-fi production that highlights Mimi Parker's Aimee Mann-like vocals. Featuring a dynamic array of songs, HAVE A MERRY CHRISMUKKAH! is an excellent alternative to the usual standards that get trotted out every holiday season.
