Lalo's original score is the best
Review created: 12/11/07(updated 12/11/07)

I first bought this album in New York in 1976 from one of one of Sam Goody's side street stores selling overstock out of print LPs. It cost around 50c.
Dot records recorded Lalo Schifrin's musicians in a bright and dynamic way. The instruments fairly leap out of the speakers. Apart from the title theme here in its original time signature (5/4) which needs no introduction, you should recognize many other melodies from the cult TV series. Here they are stretched out to reveal in full how they should sound complete with middle eights and jazz solos. In addition to the big band, Lalo has added strings and other sounds for example the sitar which add much colour to the proceedings.
My LP was long gone, so it was a real treat to find the music out again on CD with additional tracks from the second LP 'More Music from Mission Impossible.' If you could criticise the issue then blame the record company for not adding more from the aforementioned second album. There was plenty of space left.
This is a great album and I am very happy to welcome it back into my collection digitally restored for even more enjoyment.
