Album Notes Many artists create soundtracks for films or theatrical performances, but very few manage to compose background noise for Japanese rope-bondage shows. Merzbow is known as one of the pioneers of Japanese noise music, and many of his prior recordings have been harsh exercises that force the listener to endure endless minutes of howling feedback and crushing waves of distortion. On MUSIC FOR BONDAGE PERFORMANCE 2, he's a little more gentle, letting up on the aural terror and adding ambient, almost spooky textures to his constructions. The production on the album also marks a considerable improvement over the first MUSIC FOR BONDAGE PERFORMANCE disc; while Merzbow certainly doesn't move into accessible territory here, there are many more nuances within the base of his power electronics. Sure, this music was designed with B&D/S&M in mind, but it's also a fine collection of challenging experimental electronic noise.
