I am not an out-loud laugher, but this movie is full of funny material throughout, much of it for adults only. That being said, it is such a surprise for a constantly entertaining, funny movie to have good thoughtful themes.
I say, "Well done!"
Within the movie there is a satisfying exploration of family dynamics in the life of a showbiz workaholic. Charming and delightful capture it, but the make it sound like it can't be funny. It is! It's Billy Crystal after all.
I bought it because it was less than the price of two rentals, and I knew there was a cameo by Jerry Lewis - one of the few times you can see him doing comedy in the past several years.
I say, "Well done!"

) I bought this movie as a present for my 80 year old father.
Even though the movie came out in the 90's, I'd never seen it till today.
It's a bitter sweet look at aging, show biz and relationships as the movie follows the life of "Buddy Young Jr.", a popular yet self-destructive comic who rises to the heights of starom in the fifties, played by Billy Crystal. David Paymer is excellent as his long-suffering manager and brother.
The movie has excellent cinematography and the acting is good, but it's more sad than funny as the story of aging and becoming yesterday's news may be prophetic for entertainers like Crystal.
The DVD contains a nice number of special features with interesting background info, (although the "gag reel" is not that funny.)
Nice cameos by Jerry Lewis and a few other classic comedians.
