Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation (2006, DVD)

I'd seen this movie several times on TCM or AMC and just loved it so much that I had to have it and was so happy it was on EBay! I mainly bothered with it because I'm a Maureen O'Hara fan but the rest of the cast is just as fabulous! I became a Jimmy Stewart fan because of this movie. It's fun at it's clean best. My favorite parts are when Jimmy takes his TV addicted son out sailing so they can "bond" and they end up getting lost in the fog. His son ends up idolizing his dad when he brings them safely through. In my other favorite part, Jimmy and Maureen try to make their teen daughter happy at a local dance where no one will dance with her. Jimmy hollers into a group of boys, "hey, Joe would you come here?" And pays him to dance with his daughter. Soon she's the most popular girl at the dance because her dad is secretly paying all the boys off. When Maureen questions this tactic, he tells her there is always a "Joe" in a crowd of boys and that "it isn't right, but it works". Admittedly, it's not as fast-paced as some of our more recent movies, but it's not a classic for nothing.
