Album Notes Rush: Geddy Lee (vocals, bass, synthesizer); Alex Lifeson (acoustic & electric guitars); Neil Peart (drums, timbales, bells, percussion). Additional personnel: Hugh Syme (keyboards). Recorded at Le Studio, Quebec, Canada in October & November 1980. MOVING PICTURES is the intersection between Rush's '70s art-rock style and their sequencer-laced '80s efforts. An incredible stylistic leap for the band, the songs here incorporate reggae, percolating synth and even a new wave-tinged early '80s pop sensibility. "Tom Sawyer," the ultimate alienated-teen saga, is the album's best known song. "Red Barchetta" picks up where 2112 left off with futuristic, sci fi-oriented lyrics. The instrumental "YYZ" is as far into straight-up progressive rock as the band had ever ventured. Things get socio-political on the ominous "Witch Hunt," and a Jamaican flavor enlivens "Vital Signs." The increased reliance on synthesizers and sequencers would later become irksome to old school Rush fans, but on MOVING PICTURES, electronics are tastefully applied to further the group's musical vision, making for what just might be their finest batch of songs. | Find errors in the product description? Reviews Beat, talent, plays nice with loud volume, plays nice with a sub-woofer. good lyrics. If you you like RUSH you should buy this. If it is not your speed sell it back to E-bay nothing lost. This group is under-rated often miss understood, often they preceede themeselves, sometimes thier music is more evolved than my tastes and then I have to catch up. I feel like there isn't a bad song on this playlist, they play nice back to back. This group only has three musicians most groups need four to get by. Nice album cover too. I have this on vinyl. I have owned this on tape. This is my second CD. Without children to tear this one up, with the advent of MP3 players and multimedia computers this should last the rest of my life. Neil’s song writing prowess is clear seen in this album. Each band member’s individual talent is showcased through out the album. Moving pictures in my opinion is an album where RUSH makes a major shift from a young band of the 70’s to an experienced band of the new millennium. I've always been a big Rush fan - not only are they the most intelligent band around, they can play their instruments masterfully. I remember when Moving Pictures first came out, and it blew my mind. I was in high school at the time, and went to the concert as well. I even still have the tour book and ticket stub! THIS CD IS A MUST FOR ANY AND ALL RUSH FANS!!! Review ID: 10000000007220638 Was this review helpful? Report this review BY FAR, THIS WAS THE BAND'S GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT. EVERY SONG IS WORTH LISTENING TO, MOST ARE WORTHY OF AIR GUITAR AND DRUMS (EVEN AIR BASS!). THIS IS THE ALBUM THAT MADE RUSH A POWERHOUSE BAND THAT CAN SELL OUT THE BIG ARENAS. ALTHOUGH THE SONGS ARE VERY TECHNICAL FROM A MUSICIAN'S VIEW, THEY ARE ALL VERY EASY TO LISTEN TO. IF YOU HAVE NOT HEARD THIS CD, YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON SOME GREAT MUSIC!
