  Motorola V710 Free the Bluetooth
Review created: 10/15/05

This was Verizon’s first phone with Bluetooth technology. The Motorola V710 was the pioneer of Bluetooth for CDMA Networks, people could not wait to get their hands on this phones anxiously waiting for what it was though as the phone that would save Motorola’s Curse on the CDMA market.

But in the end it wasn't meant to be, Verizon Wireles with their infinite wisdom decided to cripple the V710’s bluetooth capabilities. This new promissing technology would never reach its fullest potential thanks to Verizon. Ofcourse they never advertised this little problem and in the true spirit of America they were taking to court (google v710 class action lawsuit)

Pros:

1. Good Sound Quality
2. Good Reception this phone picks up both Digital and Analog Signals
3. Upgradable memory.
4. Big screen for some of you that are going blind
5. Flash aka LED Light doubles as a las resort light.

Cons

1.Medicocre battery life – You can always get an extended battery altought it will make your already huge phone even bigger.

2.Hard to personalize unless you are Motorola Software Engineer

3.Bluetooth is crippled, we have Verizon to thank for that.

4.Oh man and the camera, this phone should not even be called a camera phones, I get better pictures from my 5 year old web cam. Unless you are taking a picture on a bright sunny day the pictures would look like utter crap. The camera is very sensitive to low light levels.

5. Is a Motorola some of you know what I am talking about.

I was extatic when I got this phone (I paid an exorbitant amount for this phone, having bought it the day after it came out... oops. Now it's only $100-something with new plans... *sigh*) I loved the bluetooth feature of this phone. It was the deciding factor in my purchase.

Pros:
Bluetooth headset and modem capability (works very well)

Clear calls

Good signal reception

Good quality speaker (never used a headset for mp3 features)

Cons:
You can't change the outside wallpaper

Battery life

Camera picture quality (but who cares? I'm not much for the hype of camera cell-phones... If you want a good quality picture, why not use a camera?)

new firmware disables transfer of mp3's to phone to use as ringer to force you to purchase ringtones through Verizon's 'get it now' service (if you already own the CD, why have to pay for the sound/song again?) But I guess this is a Verizon/V710 con, and not motorola's fault.

I find that the battery runs out of juice too quickly (even without making large amounts of phone calls), and, as seems to be common with all Motorola cell phones, the charge port wears out, so over time, it gets harder and harder to get the phone to actually charge. I've found myself propping it up against objects to hold the cord against the phone, propping it on it's side, or any number of ways to get the contacts to touch just right. Oh, and pray to God you don't get the "unable to charge" message. I had to make a claim on my Verizon (asurion) insurance to get a replacement, because mine just stopped charging. I've had the replacement for a little over a month now, and the power port is already giving me cheek.

For all of my complaining... I still love the little blighter. Oh well... at least I get a discount offa my next phone for sticking with this heap for two years.

TWO STRIKES: Looks like Seller wants me to keep paying $4 to ship bad phones back to him. How many times should I do this?

What I purchased:
You are bidding on a lightly used in Nice Condition Motorola V710 Color Camera Bluetooth Flip Cell Phone for US Cellular. This phone is in excellent cosmetic and working condition with only a bit signs of use. Phone may have some scuffs from gentle use. Pictures are stock photos of similar item sold. Phone has been full tested and works great!! The ESN# is clear and ready to activate."

Item: Nice Motorola V710 US Cellular Color Camera Cell Phone (230062978423)
This message was sent while the listing was active. 04avril04 is a bidder.

I took the cellphone in to be hooked up at US Cellular and the technician showed me that the phone has had water damage. (White dot inside battery cover turned red indicates water damage)

It does not work correctly: The On/Off button works sporadically -
The phone behaves strangely, flashing on/off until the battery is taken out.
Doesn't turn back on at all without taking the battery out completely then putting back in... several times.

How should I proceed? April~

Seller's Response:

**************** Second Complaint

I received this replacement phone, which was broken when I opened the package (camera lens protector was just sitting in the package, not attached to the phone). Tried to turn it on, nothing. Charged it overnight and it worked but not the mp3 chip slot. Plus, you remember the dot inside the cover that turns red if its exposed to water (like the last phone you sent me)... On this phone, the dot was removed but there is red residue left on the metal where it was attached. Please refund my money plus $4 for shipping and I'll send this phone back to you, though its not worth anything. I am very disappointed and I can't believe your rating is so high. :(

Seller's Response # 2 is exactly the same as Response #1. (Obviously an automated note, which only tells me that Seller gets alot of complaints.)

Hi,
I am sorry that you are having problems with the phone. We test the phones to the best of our ability and did not come across any problems. We are really sorry about this, Please send the phone back to me for an exchange, within 5 business days at most:

I asked for a refund not an automated letter. I would have preferred a working phone but now I've had to pay double to US Cellular for a used phone, plus I'm out the shipping that I paid to return your stupid broken phone.

I am very dissatisfied!

  Motorola V710 (Verizon Wireless)

This review is for the Motorola V710 for the Verizon Wireless network. This phone has 1X capabilities, Get It Now, a built in 1.2 megapixel digital camera, camcorder, speakerphone, and Bluetooth wireless technology.

This is an excellent looking phone. It has a lot of standard features but it still falls short of LG and Samsung. The Keypad is well laid out and has large buttons; those worried about fat fingering numbers will welcome this. The Navigation Key and OK button in the center of the navigation button some may find a bit small and difficult to work with. This model has the ability to add additional memory via the transflash port, those into the media player thing will love this. This phone has full Bluetooth capabilities that have been turned off at the request of Verizon Wireless. There are ways to unlock all functions of Bluetooth if you don’t mind hacking into your phone. The resources are readily available on the Internet, just be aware that once you start to play with your phone you forfeit all manufactures and carrier warranties. In other words, make sure you know what your doing before you start or you run the risk of owning a pretty paperweight. Over all a sleek phone, great primary or backup phone if you lost your main phone or it was stolen.

Great phone, good mp3 player, hard case, very pleased..

Motorola v710,
Being the first phone with bluetooth technology motorola decided to not only put it the very handy bluetooth but also put in one of the first ever 1.2 megapixel cameras and a great mp3 player. One of the best features of this product is the micro SD or transflash memory card slot. It allows you to expand the memory in your phone and store your pictures and music on it. I find it very dissapointing when they advertise a phone that can play mp3's and take pictures when they give you a mere 10 mb of storage which is just about 3 songs or 60 photos.
Also has a great speaker for listening to music or talking on the phone. Or you can also just plug in a pair of headphones.
As far as calling with this phone It does get very good reception because of its bulky antenna. The phone it self is rather large in size but is one of the roughest and toughest phones out there. Don't forget the large screen size not just does it have a large screen inside but it also has a fair size screen on the outside, larger than the razr anyway. Overall very pleased with the phone and would never trust anything else when I need a dependable phone.

  Planning on buying this?

Here's the scoop on this cell phone. This item has a great MP3 player. Extra songs can be uploaded on the cell phone using an SD-Transflash card. An SD-Transflash card is a Secure Digital Memory card that is seperate in two parts. Same principle as the Sony Memory stick and it's counterpart Pro Duo Series but just in a smaller more integrated format. This cell phone sometimes echos, even in the new version of it that just came out. It has multiple alarm-wake-up settings.

The Camera on it is okay. It's a little over a mega-pixel, so don't expect much from it. You will like the video-record function. One feature I use on this cell phone is it's voice record function. I record things such as where I parked at Wal-Mart. I don't care who you are, but everyone loses track of their car at Wal-Mart. You can plan current events throughout the year with this cell phones calendar function.

Blue Tooth is quite a nice feature for you "tech savy people"

You can send video mail and text messages and also surf the internet. Don't expect much from the internet function though. It's still strickly text only format.

Physical Ability: I'll be honest, I've thrown this cell phone out of a car going 80 mph, ran over three times and dropped too many times that God would even frown at me. It still runs....so much for trying to file cell phone insurance.

I personally love this phone.

The most comments I get about it is the screen size the display is huge compared to everyone elses phone I see.
The ability to load your own wallpapers/ringtones/ect from a memory stick was nice, but the T-Flash memory cards were a pain to find for good prices.

The camera was nice a feature (1.2mp) but for me the shots were never that great.

  Really bad design

Pros:
-big screen
-great speakerphone

Cons:
-When phone sits in my pocket the exterior side buttons are constantly pressed. the camera turns on often and therefor the battery died on me on many occasions. The ringer button also gets presses and I've missed many, many calls.
-The picture quality of the Camera is pathetic. It states that its 1.5 megapixels but it really isn't
-I found the Battery life to be very short. There have been many days which I ran out of juice with it being recharged the previous night.
-The phone is much larger and heavier then your average phone.
-I ordered the phone with the data cable and have still not been able to sync my contacts.

Good phone- not the best, but good

This phone follows suit with other Motorola products, where it's comsumer-life is extended by it's quality craftmanship. It has several strong features, but also a number of glitches.

This phone has several tools and systems within it. Having said that, it's like a computer. And this is no exception to software glitches or conflict. This unit tends to 'freeze' if you try to run a simple or complex task- the only way out is to power down the phone and power up again after 60 seconds.

It's built-in still/MPEG camera is definitley on the lower side of the quality scale. It does take pictures, but the resolution is mild at best. If you are looknig for high quality photos to come from this phone, you will be hugely disappointed. However, the MPEG's it's capable of taking are well above average.

Battery life is poor. On a full charge, you will get about 180 minutes talk time and about 120 minutes stand-by. A full charge requires the phone be plugged in and powered down for 12 hours.

A ton of useful features such as a calendar, calculator, integrated MP3 player, huge phone book/directory and excellent web browsing capabilities.

All in all- a good phone for everyday routine use. Not the best, not the worst- just a good phone.

  Strong signal strength Bluetooth phone
Review created: 12/17/05
by:
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

If you are looking for mainly a phone and do not care too much for the camera this is the phone if you use VERIZON as your wireless company.
I have used several phones in the past 5 years. This one has a signal where the others did not.
I do not find the battery life too bad. I can go without charging the phone for a couple days.

Pros:
a) Bluetooth (limited to headset but a great add on still)
b) Upgradable memory
c) Works with Mobile Office kit software so you can maintain your phone book on your PC/PDA.
d) Great Signal (Has CDMA and Analog too)
e) Speakerphone
f) Voice dialing
g) Acceptable SAR rating
h) MP3 player

Cons:
a) Camera - Insult to call it one. - Dismal to mediocre PICS.
I have Digital SLR for taking my PICS.
b) Can accidentally press some buttons on the side.

Conclusion:
Get this if you are not looking for a Camera phone and just need the limited bluetooth features.

I really liked the phone, but I only got to use it for a month and it wouldn't accept the chargers anymore. So, the battery died and I couldn't use it. Something went wrong between the battery and where you plug it in. When I did use it, it was very nice. Loud ring tones, nice clear screens that took great pics. I bought mine used though, but a little disappointed it didn't last. Oh well, I spent a little more and got a Razr.

Motorola V710 -- Many Functions & Great Value
Review created: 04/12/07
by:
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I recently re-upped my US Cellular contract. I needed an upgrade in phones. But, I decided to let my daughter have the discounted phone that came with the new contract (She got a new KRZR 1M).

So, for my phone, after doing some research, I found that the Motorola V710 has all of the functions of the Razr's and Krzr's. Having more of a regular flip phone style, it just wasn't in the sleak new style that is so popular.

Since I'm more concerned with function than keeping up with the latest fads, I decided to buy the V710. And, I ended up getting one "like new" and very much as described (even better) on Ebay for $56 plus shipping.

I love the huge screen on the V710 and it's overall durability.

(Note: a US Cellular technician showed me some of the parts that Motorola uses to get the Razr's & Krzr's so sleak, particularly their flimsy, plastic screens. He told me that they aren't very durable at all, and that he see's problems all of the time because of it.)

The camera on the V710 operates at 1.2mp. So, pictures and videos are noticably not as good as those on my daughter's Krzr. (I think the Krzr's are 1.3mp)

But, I'm not that much of a photographer. And, the other functions are awesome. I love using the mp3 player. And, I really love having the MicroSD slot and the fact that it is at the top of the phone instead of below the battery like in the Razr/Krzr's. I also am happy with the speakerphone & the flexibility and the reliability of the calendar & the alarm.

I am very happy with Motorola's software--which is made to provide you with a lot of flexibility to setup the menus, access, etc., pretty much any way you want.

The original battery that came with it doesn't last very long if you use many functions. And, I use the phone alot to get news, weather, sports and to check my email when I am away from a computer. But, from my research, I knew about the battery going in. So, I purchased (again on ebay) an extended battery (SNN 5760) that fits in the phone with the original battery cover. And, I get more than enough battery life.

The things that I am less pleased with are likely US Cellular issues, I believe. While you can apply pictures from your MicroSD card to be used as wallpaper, you cannot apply songs from the card to be used as ringtones. I think the carrier is trying to get you to pay to download their ringtones. Again, I bought Motorola's Phone Tools 4.0 on ebay for my gaughter to get around this problem. I haven't tried it yet myself. And, I haven't heard from her yet as to results.

Another thing that I am less-than-pleased with relates to the iTap function. It works great for regular phone functions like text messaging and other functions when you need to type. It even works in other languages. (My daughter's studying spanish, so I send her spanish text messages sometimes.)

But, again, a carrier issue I believe, when typing on Easyedge (the carrier's mini internet service), you are not able (or allowed) to use the phone's iTap function. Typing is very cumbersome in Easyedge, which is frustrating. So, getting emails and other information on the phone from Easyedge is awesome. But, sending emails or sending IM's even using an Easyedge AOL program--not as good.

I read in my research and saw in ebay that there are hacking programs that you can buy that will get around the carrier limitations that are placed on the phone's functions.

Overall, I love the Motorola V710! Great Value!

I bought this phone because of the look, which was pretty stupid of me.
frist of all, the only pro i can come up with is
-good speaker phone.
there are way too many Cons
-Poor camera
-Horrible battery life
-breaks easily
-you can only have one number under every contact. EX: if jonn has a house, cell, and pager number. i have to make 3 different contact entries.

overall, i would say don't buy this phone, go for one of the newer LGs, they are almost as cheap and much more reliable

The phone was NOT an Alltel phone and I was out the money....I tried to contact the seller with no help from him...I always got voice mail and noone ever called me back.
I took this to paypal dispute and now since I didnt check my e-mail on time...2days late....I have been refused my money back!!!

well the reason i decided to buy the phone well make an attempt to buy the phone was because i really needed another phone and i had the Motorola V710 before and its a really good phone.. but while i was making an attempt to get the phone it was never successful. i made several attempts to get phone from company and it all failed.. then i tried contacting ebay about my situation involving the phone and ebay had replied that the company said that i have recieved the phone already and wasn't happy with it.. that entire statement was false.. i contacted my credit card company and they told me that the company that i was buying the phone from had charged my card 3 times.. so now my biggest problem is that i can not get anything else off of ebay because of this situation.. I've made several or more purcheses off ebay now i cant make any.. the only thing i wont from ebay or the company is for everything to be released so that i can buy more from ebay,or like i stated with the company that is selling the phone.. i would love nothing more to get the phone but ebay nor the company will respond to any of my emails.. I've sent several to the company and ebay about my situation. so until this problem can get resolved I'm going to have too rate my service with ebay and the company who was trying to sell me the Motorola V710 very poor.. i hate to do such a thing but i cant get the phone that i agreed to buy at first..
