  My favorite cell phone ever
Review created: 11/18/07

I have to say right at the start that I was never a fan of cell phones with cameras. I can see why a lot of folks like them, but I still use my phone chiefly for TALKING, rather than texting, etc. Other phones that I've owned and am comparing this one to: Kyocera 2035, 2235, 2325, KX414 & KX1v; Motorola v120, v60s & v60i; Nokia 3589; Samsung R225m & T329.

PROS:
I absoulutely love the long battery life on this phone; I only need to charge it once a week or so. It has Bluetooth, and was able to pair with my PDA quite easily.

Volume of the ringer seems to be plenty loud. It can play mp3 ringtones.

Clarity of voice is really quite good, in my opinion, and the signal strength is also good.

CONS:
CNET's review of the phone lists its radiation level as being among the higher ones (yet still within legal limits). I am frequently using my headset, so this really isn't an issue for me.

It's not as compact/small as some phones available (still sufficiently small for me,though).

No camera. Some might view this as a CON, which I why I put it here, but I like that it doesn't have one.

Very good phone for the price

This is a very simple and tough phone. My husband is a celery farmer-a very dirty job, he carries it with him all the time. Right now the screen is full of muck, and it is beat up and scratched up, but is still working fine. If you need a phone that can withstand some rough care-this is the one.

Motorola V195s - Great Basic Phone
Review created: 09/07/08

I've only had this phone for one week, but it sure seems to be a really good basic cell phone to me. Its design is compact and rugged, which is what I was looking for after going through two Motorola Razor flip phones in as many years (they break way too easily). This phone gets excellent reception in areas my Motorola Razor failed me and its talk time on a single charge is amazingly long. The phone's features are nearly identical to the Motorola Razor's, so it was quite easy for me to just pop in my old sim card and start using it immediately. The lack of a camera isn't a big deal to me and it does everything I expect from a cell phone well. I'd recommend this phone to anyone who needs a basic cell phone, plus wants the ability to text message, set alarms for meetings, use its calulator, calendar, etc.. You won't be sorry if you get this cell phone!

It's simply a good phone. We must think that phones need all this other garbage like cameras and tv's but really you will never use all that stuff and it's just the good dependable phone you want. This Motorola v195 is that great basic phone

I like this phone because it is light weight, easy to use and features hands free bluetooth technology. I have had one just like it for 2 years. I have droped this phone several times and it still works. I bought one just like it for a back up, but this one I have still keeps going and going and going.

  Great Phone

I purchased this for my husband. He was complaining about the small size of the buttons on his previous phone. I read many reviews and most users praised the button size and speaker volume. Both are fantastic and my husband loves his phone. He doesn't text alot but when he does he can see the buttons without his glasses. It's a good basic phone if you don't need all the extra bells and whistles. You won't be disappointed with your purchase.

Excellent, everyday phone without the bells & whistles
Review created: 12/14/09
by:

PROS
- Classic flip phone design without the unnecessary bells & whistles
- Very long battery life with about 10 hours of talk time
- Easy to use
- Clear reception
- Sturdy feel
- Quad band (GSM 850, 900, 1800 & 900)
- Bluetooth enabled
- Speakerphone
- “Soft”/“Smart” keys can easily be customized
- External display shows the current time in large, easy-to-read font
- Low price since it’s basically a 2007 model. I bought it on eBay for $15 (used) plus $8.95 shipping.

CONS
- Slightly dated design
- Low “coolness” factor
- Not the smallest, thinnest or lightest phone by today’s standards
- No camera

BOTTOM LINE
- An excellent, everyday cell phone if you don’t need the extra bells & whistles.

I bought this phone for its durability, long battery life, and simplicity. It is just a basic phone. I like it because it carries a very long battery life. It's very sturdy and isn't delicate like some high tech phones. It does everything I need it to and I didn't have to read a manual to work it. It's easy and simple.

Quality cell phone. Well made and handsome
Review created: 10/04/09

This is my second Motorola V195s. I foolishly left my first one out in the rain for two days, and it was ruined. The SIM card survived and I put it in the new phone. The phone is well made and has excellent audio. It does not have an external antenna, which allows it to fit nicely in a pocket, yet gives me more bars than any other cell phone ever did and I live in a so-called dead area. I use it as a prepaid phone at a cost of less than $4 a month. No complaints. It is a clamshell design with a window in front which is handy. If you don't need a camera phone, I highly recommend.

  Good, solid phone
Review created: 07/25/09

Actually bought this as a replacement for my last phone (same model). The phone does NOT have all those fancy features like a camera or MP3 player, it DOES however only need to be charged about once a week and it is a tank of a phone. I dropped, kicked, RAN OVER and did various other evil things to my last phone...it barely was scratched. The phone actually continued to work for over 36 hours after i dropped it in water and fully submerged it. Probably if i would have let it dry correctly it would have lived through even the swim.

Great phone! Very study and reliable. I love this phone!

  Motorrolla v195s
Review created: 06/19/09

The battery life on this phone is just as good as advertised, and maybe even better. I've been able to get through three days of heavy use or over a week of light use on a single charge. When your battery gets to one bar it means you had probably better charge it that night, instead of indicating that you shouldn't accept anymore incoming calls that day in case you need to make an outgoing call in an emergency.
Cnet's review covers most of the pros and cons of the phone, but manages to overlook the annoying menu layout and the SIM PIN2 problems. I say problems because the SIM PIN2 requires you to visit your service provider and have them unlock it before you can set up speed dialing assignments. If you're buying this phone online, part of the attraction is NOT having to hold your service provider's hand while crossing the street of phone upgrading.
My other main complaint is the menu. My former phone, a Samsung e105, allowed one touch access my calendar, and allowed me to shortcut through all the menus by keying in line numbers of options rather than actually scrolling through the menus. There's a nice option of setting two button shortcuts to your favorite applications and functions on the v195s, but this isn't quite the same as being able to completely avoid scrolling through menus. Also, as other reviews have mentioned, the plastic in the hinge starts creaking sometime after six months, depending on usage. I barely even noticed this initially though, and am completely oblivious of it now after a week or so of use.
All that said, the better life is unbelievable, the Bluetooth is quite a nice feature for the price, and the speakerphone is quite functional, even if both the mic and the speaker sound a bit tinny while using this function. Sound quality in normal use is solid.
Bottom line, this is not a perfect phone, but it might be the best thing on the market for buyers who need great battery life and Bluetooth capability, and want to spend as little as possible on their phone.

  Motorola V195s
Review created: 06/13/09

Several years ago I had purchase a Motorola V180 and prepaid cellular service for my mother who is a senior citizen. That phone was fine at the time but the small display buttons were becoming an issue for her. As she is not a gadget person and did not need anything really special, I came to the conclusion that a phone similar to the V180 but a bit larger would fit the bill. Also, I was looking for a phone that would use the same accessories as my Motorola V360 (battery, charger, Bluetooth). After looking at various used phones available and their prices, the V195s fit the bill. It has good battery life, the battery and charger work with the V360 and it is not overly complicated which is good for an older person.

  Great phone, small quirk
Review created: 04/24/09

Great battery life, great reception, great call quality, best signal strength of any phone i've had so far. Easy to text with. Small quirck. Certain sound settings on my particular phone refuse to be changed. I can only change my ringtone. Other alert tones i can change in the settings but it will only play the t-jingle tone even though it isnt set to do so. not a big deal but other tones would catch my attention better.

Here's the story of this "seller". He was selling to cell phones and it was a take over my contract thing.I won the cell phones for $0.99 I emailed him and asked how it works he simply out right told me he sold them to someone else. So had i have not emailed him to get the info i would have paid him (yes even though $0.99). he would have just taken my money and that would have been that i have been trying to email him he won't respond so finally i left my feed back NEGATIVE
and i DO NOT recommend him to anyone. so now he will retaliate and leave me negative feed back.

No Frills, But a Great Phone.
Review created: 04/05/09

I bought this as an economical replacement for my Rizer that went through our washing machine. Little did I know that this phone would actually be superior in quality. Everyone to whom I speak notices and comments on how clear my voice is now. It is sturdy and quite reliable. Yes, it does not have a camera nor a memory slot, but provides a basic phone that meet my needs. I am completely satisfied with this phone.

  V195s, a good basic phone.
Review created: 01/08/09
by:

This is a good basic phone WITHOUT a camera, which is a requirement in some jobs now for security. The screen is good but not great.
It's greatest strength is that the battery is long lasting and with a optional BT 70 battery, which requires a different battery door you have to find separately, it holds a charge for 3 days easily with light use.
I always use a Body Glove cover on phones to make them break resistant from light falls. This one has one that fits, of course you need to buy it seperately and toss the belt clips set up in the trash and it's great.
For a pay as you go customers looking for a basic solid phone this a good one. It is a very limited function compared to most newer model phones so if you want bells and whistles do not buy this one but it is a quad band worldwide phone so you can get local SIMM cards in foreign countries to avoid high fees for using US phones in non-USA locations.
