  Fantastic phone.

This is the first cell phone I have owned that actually gets a signal in my house. For years I had to go outside to use my cell phone. The 180 is outstanding. I have yet to drop a call. The volume is crisp and clear, and it is only set on the middle loudness. The battery is a workhorse, it lasts close to 10 days on one charge. It is very simple to use and understand, although I haven't used all it's functions yet. It is big enough so that it doesn't feel like a toy in your hands, yet compact enough to fit in a shirt pocket. I highly recommend this phone.

  Not Worth It

The motorola v180 is a great starter phone and that's it. I've used this phone for over a year and I've had it replaced 5 times and 2 new batteries direct from motorola. Yes FIVE times. It's great as an entry level phone into a carrier and all the functions work fine (there aren't any advance skills needed) and the reception is great even while traveling.

The problems started after about 3-5 months of using the v180...the phone started to shut-off by itself...I'd finish using the phone, sit it on the bed and next thing I know the phone was off. I missed calls, voicemails, text messages, and didn't even know I was missing them until I decided to check each of those categories by themselves.

The battery no longer kept it's charge. I'd charge the phone overnight and by the end of the next day it would be dead. I'm not a talker but I am a texter and a phone shouldn't die after only one day. Which resulted in two separate occassions of new batteries being sent out free of charge by Motorola.

I had problems receiving any notifications (such as the symbols) on the phone. There were tons of problems with this phone. So finally after having to replace the phone free of charge so many times, my carrier (Cingular) decided to upgrade all the motorola v180 phones that me and my family were using and replaced them with Nokia phones.

So based on the problems I had with the phone it isn't worth the small price. If you have the extra money take it and purchase a phone a step above from the v180. I hope this helps.

Whole family all had problems with this phone!

When my family and I switched over to cingular we all got this phone, the motorola v180 exept for my dad. My brother, my mom and I all had lots of trouble with this phone. There are so many dropped calls and bad reception. After about 2 months of having the phone the vibrator went out. Finally my mom got fed up and got a different phone, the same that my dad got (a nokia) since he was having absolutely no problems. I took her old Motorola v180 since she hers still had the vibrator and the screen was still working nicely, but within a couple weeks the screen started turning up black. I would have to flip it open and close about 6 times before the screen would come up. I never once dropped it! I have had much better luck with siemens and samsung. I know of two of my co-workers that have also had terrible problems with this phone. Great battery life though!

  Not very durable

I'm on my 2nd v180 (first one had a software problem), my mom got the same phone but hers is broke to the point where it is unusable (so she uses someone elses). My sister also got a v180, but got another brand because this one broke too easily.
Cingular is one of the best providers out there, but if your phone breaks you have to jump through hoops to get it replaced. The deals ($50 phones or free phones) are only for new customers, once you're a customer they don't care about you. Sadly, they are still better than T Mobile and Centennial by far.

  Great cingular phone... bad seller.
Review created: 09/06/06(updated 09/07/06)
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I am a cingular customer and I have two phones through them. My husband recently dropped his phone into a bucket of water and ruined his phone, unfortunately I did not have insurance. I went to the cingular store to possibly purchase another phone and the cost was so high that I had to leave. I have shopped and bought on ebay many times before and I have never had a problem, that is until I purchased this phone. I have always looked at the fine print of the items and if there was something that was missing from that fine print I would contact the seller and question what I was unhappy with. This purchase of the phone clearly stated that I would pay an "x" amount of money for the phone, an "x" amount of money for shipping and handling and that 1.30 would be required for insurance, I thought to myself great... they are going the extra mile making sure that we have insurance so that the phone would hopefully arive in one piece. Oh it did arive in one piece alright... one piece of air. I received an empty box that had shipping costs on it, delivery confimation sticker and stamped words that said.. "received in damaged condition". I quickly notified the seller and his reply was that he had to check with the post office to see if the phone was there. Hello.... it should not be there, it should be in my possession.
Unfortunately now I have resulted to taking this matter a step further and allowing pay pal to settle the dispute. Who knows where it will go from here. All I know is that even if I do not get my money back, there will definately be a negative feedback that I leave for him. I work hard for my money and I'm sure there are many of you that do too, don't let these people get away with fraudulant listings, they need to be kicked off the Ebay and brought to court for fraud.

As for all of my other purchases, I have never had a problem. I always keep good communication going to my seller and I give them the same. Ebay is a good thing, they just need to rid the ones that are cheaters and liars.

The phone itself, I can not say enough about it. I personally own one and I love it. Long life with the battery, ability to hear crystal clear, wonderful size. I am just angry with the seller, not the phone.

  Good compact phone

Small compact phone - long battery life and good reception. My family (including self) have had this phone for over 1.5 years and among the three phones, we have had to change the battery of one phone once. Otherwise the phone works fine - though there is some problem with the reception within some buildings. I commute a lot to work - over 50 miles each way and haven had a problem as yet getting in touch with the family to tell them that I am late !! I don't use any of the other features much - just want to make and receive calls. Have used the texting feature too - it works fine.

  V180 Cell phone disaster
Review created: 09/04/07

I have a t-mobile v180 that works ok, so I bought this phone for a friend who needed a new phone but wanted to keep his existing plan.

My V180 is ok but the signal strength is so so.

The "unlocked" V180 phone I got off ebay is terrible. The new battery doesn't hold a charge more than 15 minutes. Signal strength is bad. Some of the graphics on the phone don't work.

What's worse is that the selller doesn't respond to emails or voice mails.

The price is low for a reason, stay away from these phones!

Great phone if you need an inexpensive replacement for lost or non-warrantied unit, especially to get you through the remainder of a service contract without buying provider's over-priced new phones. Has many features. It's been reliable and battery has remained charged through heavy use. Screen could be better. Reception is excellent. USB connect port,data/fax, voice mail and e-mail, pix in phone book. Supports new ring tones. Many more features.

Reliable reception and good sound quality.
Review created: 03/05/07

I have had mainly positive experiences with my Motorola V180. The phone's best point is its reception, which I have found to be very good compared to other phones i have tried. The second best point is the sound quality, which is quite good in the earpiece and pretty good as a speakerphone too. Most every other aspect is pretty secondary, although I would say that I appreciate the compact size and that the data connector is a standard mini USB plug. The inside color screen is very good. The plastic case gets scratched relatively easily, and I had one outer screen crack when the phone was dropped. Only one phone number per contact entry. This is not really a multimedia phone. No camera and small memory.

purchased a used v180 motorola cell phone

when my old v188 motorola phone went bad,i notified t-mobile about purchasing a new one.however my phone was no longer availible.i use my phone everyday at least 4 hours using it as a modem for my computer.its great when we travel,as long as i have a signal,i can use my lap top computer.so looked on ebay and found a used one in good condition reasonably priced.the first thing i check is the sellers reviews.if it isn't at least 95%,i won't buy from them.also the shipping cost has to be taken into account so as not to overplay for the item.the phone is very dependable and easy to operate.i'll probably keep looking for another v-180 motorola phone as a backup.

Greatest experience I've had with a seller on eBay but, the phone only lasted about 3 weeks then it was so static I had to stop using unless I use the head phone each time I answer the phone. Not sellers fault. I Highly recommend them.

  Good Cheap Phone
Review created: 09/01/06

1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Considering I got my phone for 7.50 here on this fine establishment we call ebay, I can't complian. However, in general its a decent phone. I'm fairly rough with my phones, I've dropped this one at least 100 times so far and its still working great. Reception is good, speakerphone is good. I can even get into it with a regular miniUSB to USB cable and Motorola Phone Tools. I've loaded it with custom ringtones and graphics. It still has room to spare. Its a great starter phone, or if you just need a cheap phone with good features. No camera, but I don't use camera phones anyway. Overall it was definately worth the price.
