The Motorola SLVR(Sliver) L7 -PROS: The phone has a Clean User Interface with great embedded memory for personal options MENU KEY > SETTINGS > PERSONALIZE > MAIN MENU > VIEW: LIST or ICONS, by default this phone shows LIST, change this option to ICONS for easy access to all personal options. My Motorola holds a long battery charge which is good for travelers or world-wide commuters. Other great features include a 'voice recognition key' used such as Calling Voice Commands for people stored on your Phone only, the store in SIM memory option does NOT use "Voice Commands." Your options show when adding someone to your address book, (e.g. ADD NUMBER > STORE TO: 'PHONE' for voice command.) Good datebook organization, If you Love Itunes this phone is for you allowing you to connect the phone to your desktop and transfer music (up to 512 MB or 100 songs, which ever comes first.) using the inbox data cable. You can also use the phone for Instant Messaging with AOL, ICQ and Yahoo! E.g. MENU KEY > SETTING > TOOLS > IM > NEW ACCOUNT, very easy to use. Blue tooth is nice for hands-free headsets and in car deployment. CONS: I dislike the fact of UnOrganized in bound calling... e.g. If you miss a call more than once like someone calling you a few times it only shows the most recent call. This tends to be unhelpful when someone calls you and then you miss their call again, you only see they called once. Very UnOrganized Missed Calls List. PRICE AND ACCESSORIES: Retail value is 400USD. I wouldn't spend more than 150USD and besure to see if the phone is Unlocked AND includes Motorola SLVR L7 comes with a stereo headset, data cable and a 3.5mm Stereo Headset Adapter already inbox. I hope my experience with my phone has helped you out in you phone decision.

SLVR: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly
Review created: 03/26/06

I bought the SLVR L7 and I thought it was great. The phone truly is thin, the sound quality is great, the screen is big, and the other basics that are advertised. I however, purchased the SLVR L7 UNLOCKED and I got the sliver, a European charger with a U.S. adapter (it's not that inconvenient), and a 128mb trans flash card, along with the headphones (which I find to be inconvenient since they keep falling out of my ears), it also came with a few manuals, extra earphone covers, a screen cleaner, and a usb cable and mobile phone tools (software for when you use the usb cable). My slvr did NOT come with iTunes (iTunes comes with a slvr if it's from cingular. I was disappointed by some of these things, but they are not as bad as they seem, the charger still charges as it normally would and my slvr came with a motorola version of a music player (it has the basic function: play, pause, stop, fast forward, etc.). Overall i was still satisfied but I do recomend purchasing a case or carry pouch for the slvr, the screen and the camera are easily scratched and can break quickly if not protected. I'm not very upset since i could easily go out and buy another charger and i really don't care about iTunes since the phone playes music one way or the other.

  Her Looks Can Be Deceiving
Review created: 10/15/06
6 of 11 people found this review helpful.

I've bought my slvr two months ago (this phone is actually old if you think about it, came in 2005), because indeed like many others I found it aesthetically attractive (But honestly, how often does anybody care what your phone looks like-its a phone). However, after a few troubles and intense research I've realized her looks were decieving. One the biggest misconception that people make when buying the unlocked phone is not realizing that most slvr phones are not QUADBAND. In elementary term, there are 4 GSM frequencies (global), and L7 only picks up only three. Meaning it's not a universal, and if your in business and have to travel out of the country, that can pose problems depending on your location. (There are sellers on ebay that state it's quadband, but beware)

Second It is important to note that with the release of iTunes 7.0 on September 12, 2006, the SLVR phone is no longer supported. Users can continue to listen to older audio files but cannot add new songs from the iTunes store. Which means in lamens term, that your in the mercy of apple.

3rd although it does have a bundle of features, The speakerphone is lousy. The 5MG internal memory, is like likey sticking a V4 in a ferrari, and expecting it to fly. Only some phones have PUSH to Talk features. And try not to drop the phone, because you realize it will leave a nasty mark. But I also realized that a phone should be a phone, you won't ever get a great camera on a cell, nor the best set of sound, because if that was the case buying a camera or an ipod would be obsolete. But even when it came to signals, the SlVR was subpar, which made it ever more disappointing.

BOTTOM LINE: SLVR has got the looks. BUT Motorala is banking on selling phones based on aesthetics at the expense of trimming the quality of the phone. I WOULD NOT BUY THE L7 BUT MAYBE WAIT UNTIL IT'S COUSIN THE SLVR L7C TO BE RELEASED WHICH HAS THE SAME SEXY STYLE, BUT BETTER FEATUREs SUCH 1.3 megapixel, switching away from old Java Games, better battery life, greater amount of colors, better display. So don't be tempted by the looks, and do your research, you might find something else you like, which could even be cheaper and better.

Excellent iPOD and GSM Phone combined into one
Review created: 07/17/06

Have you been tired of all the good phones launched in flip phone. If you are a big fan of 'candy bar' phone - here's a good option that has finally arrived. This is a phone and iPOD combined into one. This one is better than iPOD as it has a powerful stereophonic speakers for playing your songs.
Battery life is good. Very sleek - have owned it for 3 months now and just love it.
The negative would be its UI - but when was UI good in any of the Motorola phones. All the iPOD/iTunes UI remains as-is and is good.
The phone comes with USB cable, headphone adaptor so that you can plug in any of your favorite headphones (like bose) to it. All these accessories come free with 512M memory card which can store up to 100 songs.
Beware - if you are buying it on eBay - most of the sellers are selling the Europe version which either does not has any memory or 128M memory and they do not highlight it very clearly. Look for Cingular and US version which has 512M.

I am the kind of person who goes through phones every 3 months. Until now. The slvr has got to be the best phone on the market. The quality of the phone compared to any other is incrediable. Also a big key to getting a good working phone is to NEVER get an unlocked phone. If you have Cingular stick with a Cingular phone. If you have Sprint stick with a Sprint phone ect. For all Cingular customers this phone will serve it's purpose plus some.

  Functional tool, compact, great features
Review created: 04/27/06

4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I was looking at the Razor clam shell design when the SLVR came out. It has all the useful features that I wanted with voice recognition dialling, light & compact, strength of signal, beefier speaker phone, quick interface to the wireless Bluetooth. The address book took some time to figure out but it is very easy to search & many levels of information can be stored, Poor mans PDA. I do not use the internet options to a large degree but love the built in camera. Good photo quality in many adverse light conditions,

Tips to those who want to protect the face screen & camera lens. FInd a thin grade vynyl and cut to fit. It will hold by static electricity & does not impair the visibility. If you have a friend who quilts or sews they will help you find this product. The case that is available to carry the phone during exercise is close to what could be used for regular wear. Get busy Motorola!

The best 2 mechanical features were the shortcut key strokes to often used features & voice dial. It is a great telephome. Time will tell how it will like "impact", my old Panasonic that I replaced was contractor grade and could be dropped, stepped on etc & keep om ticking.

It is so nifty that my significant other went out & got one within 3 days. I am only sorry there weren't more color options besides black at the time I bought mine. Buy this phone & you willalso have your tunes, You can't make a call on your Ipod.

Beware of warranty Motorola SLVR L7
Review created: 07/11/06
by:
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I recently bought an unlocked Motorola Slvr L7. I registered the phone via Motorola website to avail myself with the manufacturer's warranty. A couple of weeks ago, the joystick on the middle of the keypad broke and I sent the phone to Motorola to be repaired. Last week I received my phone unrepaired. I called Motorola and they said that the warranty cannot be used here in the US. The phone was not made for the US market, it carries a software not for US market therefore, they cannot repair the phone. I argued that there was nothing wrong with the phone except for a broken piece on the keypad which can easily be replaced. I even asked them to just send me the keypad and I'll replace it myself. They still refused to honor the warranty. So beware of buying Motorola unlocked phones meant for markets outside the US. Motorola USA will not honor your warranty.

  SLVR L7 is GREAT

I love the itunes. I am a full time college student. Between the backpack filled with books and binders this makes 1 less thing I need to make sure is in the pack, my ipod. This is my phone and my music, and the best part I could use the software and music lists I already had for my ipod. Speaker volume is great, I love this phone!! Clarity is very good, really a great phone for the price.

  Motorola Slvr L7
Review created: 03/15/08
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

For a simple yet diverse phone the Motorola Slvr L7 phone is one of the best cell phones you can buy ..
Out of all the high tech products out there for the money this phone cant be beat ..
Since the size of it is shaped so that it can be put in your pocket ,it can be carried anywhere and dont worry that it will call someone after being bumped around ..you can lock the keys . it also has a security feature for those of you that are afraid of someone snooping around your phone for info,.. the menu allows you to change the security code for each feature or settings . The camera isnt the best but for simple shots it does fine and it also has video capabilities .The itunes feature allows you to play downloaded songs so you can listen while working out or running or even while at work and the cord for the ear bob can be the only thing visible .
This is my second L7 phone since I have wore the first one out . Im sold on this phone .
The only negative thing I can say about it is the internet browser leaves alot to be desired since all the internet sites wont work with this particular phone. I can get on ebay and yahoo and a few others but the format isnt the best .
I feel the price and the features go hand in hand and since this phones is loaded with features then the price is well worth it .

All in all I have very little complaints about this phone.

PRO's
- Screen is same size as the V551/V557 all in all a great screen quality.
- BlueTooth works perfectly, no problems with any of the headsets i have tryed it with. (h500, h700, hs820, hs850)
- iTunes is hackable to 1000 songs in about 5 minutes of work
- Has better reception then the V557 and a little bit better then the RAZR
- Has 3 hours more talk time then the RAZR

Con's
- iTunes only comes standard with 100 song limit
- Only up to a 1gb Flash Card is available
- Bluetooth does reset the volume to 4 every now and again.

UNLOCKED PHONES WILL NOT OWRK ON CINGULAR NETWORKS

The L7 is a great phone but be warned! UNLOCKED PHONES WILL NOT WORK ON CINGULAR NETWORKS. You will get signal but it will be irregular at best. I have spoken with Cingular severl times about unlocked phones and they WILL NOT guarantee any unlocked phone will work on their network.

Buyer be warned!

  Love it Hate it

I love this phone in that i am able to listen to music and then immediately switch over to talking to somone if they call, but what i hate about it, and this is huge, is that motorola had the nasty habit of making their headphone jacks ipossibley crapppy. the last phone i had was the ROKR E1 and the head phone jack on that one was made too delicate and cracked just because i put the head phone in. it couldn't handle ANY stress at all. the SLVR solved that by using a different kind of jack but the problem remains that they make themm crappy and the jack EASILY gets out of place and won't stay in securely. so it's WAY too fragile to keep in you pocket but i only used a carrier on the outside of my jeans and it still had the problem!!! poorly poorly made.

  It's Got it All!
Review created: 10/14/06
by:
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I bought this phone about two months ago and have loved it. It's got a great camera feature that includes 4x zoom, a video camera, and it plays mp3's with iTunes. (NOTE: this feature is not available on phones made for markets outside the US and it can't be added either!)
Before I got the SLVR, I had been thinking about getting an iPod, but I don't have to now. Sure, it only holds 100 songs instead of thousands, but why search through hundreds and hundreds of songs to find your favorites? I can just put the ones I really like on my SLVR and always have them with me. Plus, the headphones and 1/8" adapter that came with it make it easy to use anywhere. It's also completely compatible with the newest version of iTunes.
The only drawback is that the screen is much harder to keep clean than the flip phone I used to have, but it's only a big deal for someone OCD like me.
My advice: get this phone. You won't be sorry!

I've had the slvr L7 phone for 8 months now and have had no problems what so ever with it. At first I was afraid the phone would be too fragile becasue of the thinness, but my children, who love to play the games on the phone, have dropped it more than enough times for it to malfunction, and it continues to work great. I love that it has the ITunes because it helps keep my children busy when I'm running errands and I can listen to it as well. The camera and video capture come in handy when my children have a special occasion they want me to capture and they love watching themselves on the camera and being able to show others off of my phone. I am very pleased with this phone and would recommend anyone who has children or just enjoys music to get one!
