Solid, full-featured phone; but poor battery life.

The Motorola Z9 is the best in the RAZR family to date in my opinion (well, the Motorola V9 is equally as nice). The software on the Z9 is a huge improvement to that of its predecessors like the RAZR V3xx and the original RAZR V3 (much less glitchy). Battery life on the Z9 is relatively poor, though (and unfortunately they don't make an extended life battery). And if you decide to use the GPS to any extent, you can expect the battery to drain VERY fast. Other than having to charge it every day, it's a great, solidly constructed phone. The only other annoyance I have with this phone is the cover for the USB charging port which is attached to the phone by one tiny, flimsy piece of plastic. (At least the V3xx used two tiny, flimsy pieces of plastic.) It would be nice to NOT have to worry about breaking off the cover to the USB port.

This product is great and very well worth taking as an upgrade or a new line of service. If there was one down fall on this phone it would be the same down fall as the Razr 2 which is the battery life goes quick, and with this phone having GPS I would definitly recommend a car charger. I hope this was helpful.

  Surprised by the operating system

For the reviews I'd read on the internet stated slugish OS due to being Motorolas, the only slow part is the web (media net). Otherwise in only having the phone for a few days now is is very user friendly and may even outperform some smart phones with windows mobile.

Moto Z9 - Expensive and too big
Review created: 09/24/08
by:
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I received my Moto Z9 from AT&T, this phone has all the features you would expect from a non-PDA phone but I find it clumsy and too big to carry. I know that it has GPS, but I do expect to use that feature unless I suddenly find myself lost in the woods - and knowing AT&T; I probably wouldn't get signal there anyway.

I recently upraded from a Sony/Ericcson W580i which was wonderful. I was primarily looking for call clarity to reduce dropped calls and to reduce noise. I was told by the techs at AT&T that the network in my area (Sacramento, CA) suffers from severe bandwidth issues due to them losing 1/2 of all their towers when their lease expired with T-Mobile in Feb of 2008, and further degraded in June of 2008 when millions of iPhones attached to their 3G network.

Despite the clams by Motorola about their crystal clear technology, I found the reception and clarity of the Z9 no better than my Sony.

The bluetooth feature seemed to link very good with my Plantronics 521, and I was able to hear the call as good as talking on the headset. It has a very good range too.

The camera has all the same problems of any camera phone, and the pictures are OK. There is a built in video light next to the camera that would be more helpful as a flash. And you cannot turn the camera shutter noise off. On the plus side, I would imagine that you could use the video light as an emergency flashlight.

The user tools such as Calendar are not as good as expected. I Purchased the Motorols Phone tools v. 5.0 software and it took me nearly two hours to install and my computer had trouble connecting with the phone. It successfully synced about 95% of my Outlook calendar and appointment data, but errored on some appointments due to a "fields not supported" error. Even worse it did not tell me which appointments it couldn't sync, making my phone calendar unreliable as I still need to check Outlook everyday for appointment data.

Overall I'd give it a C-, for the size and cost it would make sense to buy an iPhone or Blackberry.

  Great Phone
Review created: 09/19/08

I love this phone. It is sleek, stylish, thin, and light. Having previously used the original V3 which I also liked, I can really appreciate the raised buttons when dialing in the dark or texting. The display is very crisp and bright. There is no comparison to anything else I have seen. It also takes really great pictures. I don't think that anything can compare to the V3 for durability because that was bulletproof, but the Z9 comes pretty close. The only weakness is the material used on the screen. It scratches fairly easy. I would suggest to anyone purchasing this phone, that they get a really good screen protector. Not the cheap ones that you can buy at your local Office Depot, but one of the protectors that guarantee against scratches. The cheap ones peel off in a day, but the good ones really stick.

Great cell phone with a lot of features built into it
Review created: 11/05/08

It is one of the best cell phone I have had so far and here are the pros and cons for it.

Pros: The best about this phone is it has great reception that it picks up pretty good signals even if you were at country side (tested with other cell phones that I have used); Talking phone (the cell phone will say the name of the caller when someone call you instead of traditional ringtone); It also give you the options of car mode and air mode for traveling ease; Celluar Video, or CV (able to watch CNN, ABC, ESPN on the cell phone with just monthly unlimited web usage, which cost $15 for ATT and the streamline videos are pretty smooth, with just one or two buffers from time to time); GPS (which will cost $9.99 / month with ATT for used of it and ATT is running 30days free trial for you to try it out); 2mp of digital camera, with flash light; external MicroSD card storage; the best of all, you can do your Mobile Banking with compatible banks, such as Wachovia. There are a lot more cool features that are pre-installed on your cell phone and they do cost $ after few days of free trail, such as MusicID, which will provide you with the name of the song after you have your cell phone listen to the music, pretty cool!!

Cons: bulky cell phone that probably is not suitable for someone with small hands and it is heavy as well; Due to the size of the cell phone, most likely you have to have 2 hands (even with my big hands) to call someone, one to hold the phone and the other hand to dial; The alarm o'clock does not give your the option of repeating itself every weekday, weekend, or everyday; The battery life is short as it runs out of battery within 3 hrs of talk time or 1hr of GPS time, so I bought a extra batter to spare, howver, the standby time is not bad at all.

Overall, the pros far outbeat the cons! It is a great cell phone with great reception and data-related features, such as Celluar Video, MediaNet, and Messaging (Built in AIM, MSN live, and Yahoo Messenger). I will highly recommend it!

Phone was in very good condition. Funny thing though is that it was suppose to be brand new and turned on once to make sure it worked properly, but when I turned the phone on, there were 10 different reminders that popped up.....one was erase phone and another was mail phone! LOL! But other thab that the phone was in fine working condition, no scratches, ect.

  My E-Bay experience

This review is not about the phone but about my first experience using Ebay, it SUCKED.
One I was ripped off from the start, the seller never shipped the item, second Paypal only refunds up to $200, so I was out $98.
I will never use Ebay again as it seems to be more steered towards protecting the seller as opposed to protecting the buyer.

I never got the phone and ebay told me to talk to paypal and paypal says the seller shipped the phone, but no one knows where the phone is. So now I'm out $159.99 and I don't have a phone. This is the worse experience. I'll never use ebay again. I paid money and got nothing.

  I Love This Phone
Review created: 11/17/08
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This phone is terrific. I only buy Motorola phones and I loved the motorazr. I was unsure about the slide at first. But after getting used to the change. I love it. The picture quality and sound is amazing. The raised buttons are a plus. GPS is amazing. The only downfall is the battery does only last about a day and less if you use the GPS alot. A car charger is a must. But in defense all the other razrs have about the same battery life so I was used to charging up my phone daily, usually while I'm sleeping and that is no biggie. The phone was well worth the cost. I am very pleased and will recommend it highly.

This is my 4th Motorola phone and the first one I've been able to program myself with a little help from the excellent owner's manual. I love the color, love the slider, love the features. Still a lot to discover since it has a LOT of bells and whistles. Highly recommend.

Motorola Z9 Cell Phone - Slider
Review created: 05/02/09
by:

This is a really nice phone. It is great looking, has a nice feel to it and has great options/functions. The color is very sleek and stylish and the sound quality is excellent. It is slightly heavier than most of the new phones but not by much - well worth the extra ounce or 2.

  Love this phone!!
Review created: 03/30/09

I had a Razor V3xx that was one of the best phones I have ever had. This one looks like it will be the even better. It is sleek and pretty. The ease of use is excellent too. The bigger screen is easy to read. I enjoy the music side of this phone. When I walk, I don't have to carry my ipod and my cell -- I just carry my phone. I like the fact that I can put it in my pocket and work outside, go to ballgames or whatever.

I did not buy the phone.
Review created: 12/07/08

I did not end up buying this phone because, the seller did not answer all my questions and prior to paying for the phone I was asked if I had a question for the seller....so I clicked on that. I asked the seller the same question, was the phone locked or unlocked? She did not answer prior to winning the bid and she finally answerd it was a unlocked phone. I told her I wanted a locked phone. We both were ok with the seller reselling the phone. She was a new member and I guess she didn't know to answer buyers questions. I thought after communicating with the seller it was hard to get a simple question answered from her. She sold it to someone else.
