Motorola L2 Is Okay But L6 is Better

We sell many sell phones so I think our review can be value added if you are thinking of purchasing the Motorola L2. First, be aware that if you are considering a Cingular contract, you can get this phone for FREE when you sign a new contract for 2 years. No contract? This phone may end up costing you $129, which by the way is close to the cost of the new version, the Motorola L6.

This phone is somewhat outdated since its new baby brother has more functions, but sometimes you just don't need all the bells and whistles. The phone measures a bit less than 4.5" long, a bit under 2" wide and about 3/8" thick. It is NOT a flip phone. It's a pretty decent small size. The Cingular standard comes with just the phone and a charger plus the manual. You can purchase a case (recommended otherwise you will end up with scratches), a USB data cable, and a headset or a Bluetooth earpiece at a better price on eBay than on Cingular's website.

On to the specs... The phone has a voice dial feature that will store your voice for up to 5 numbers. It will recognize your voice and will dial the number for you. That comes in handy when you have too many numbers to scroll through for the same 5 numbers that you're always dialing.

The phone is capable of sending IM's through Yahoo, AIM and ICQ. Be aware that sending and receiving instant messages will incur and same charges as sending regular old text messages. The phone comes preloaded with 15 standard text messages such as "yes", "call me", "on my way" that you can use to send. Ask Cingular about a text messaging plan (starting at $4.99 per month).

The Motorola L2 is also capable of checking, sending and receiving e-mail through Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail and AOL. When signed in to your mobile e-mail, your phone will alert you each time you receive a new e-mail. You will then have the option to check your e-mail. This phone also has browser and MediaNet. MediaNet will give you access to the top stories, weather, sports and entertainment. Remember, data transfer fees will apply. Ask Cingular about a data transfer plan (starting at $4.99 per month).

The phone has the ability to store and transfer pictures, ringtones, games and videos, however you will need a USB data cable for these functions. This phone does NOT have a camera function. Cingular will try to get you to purchase ring tones from their site, but a simple USB cable will allow your mp3's to become ring tones. There are a few preloaded games here including Tetris, but they require purchase to unlock most functions or are for trial use only.

This phone is bluetooth capable and can be customized for english, french, portuguese and spanish. As a quadband phone, you should be able to use it anywhere in the world. Reception is okay, but two of us have had the experience of sounding and receiving sound as if we were speaking under water. This reception problem does not seem to appear on the L6.

If you're not spending anything this phone and don't need a camera function, it is fine. However if you are spending over $100, save your money and get the L6 which has even more features for just about the same price on eBay. We offer then unlocked for any network.

I like it, be sure to download or buy motorola phone tools. You can use your music to make ringtones, send pics to the phone and even videos. Gotta have a usb cable too. The phone is thinner than a razr and is quad band. It works great as well, hasn't dropped a call yet. Has internet browser in it as well as bluetooth. Go get one!

Good phone, though lacking some features

    The Good:

This phone has great looks, reception, battery life, and MP3 playback support is always a plus. Internet browsing and Bluetooth capabilities are also useful features.

    I'm neutral about this:
The phone lacks a camera. However, I have no need for one, and if you work for a defense contractor or related company, you wouldn't be able to bring a cameraphone into work anyway.

    The Bad:
With my service provider (Cingular,) it lacked some of the features of previous phones - no full scale games (all demos to be purchased,) few ringtones, few wallpapers, etc.

    Final Verdict:
It was definitely worth purchasing - the lack of data items (like ringtones) isn't too big a deal since there are ways around it, and the phone suits my needs perfectly otherwise.

      Great Phone

I really like the phone once I got it activated. The misconception I had was I thought it would come with a new SIM card, which it didn't. So, I had to wait and go into a Cingular store to get a new one and have them activate it. The other thing is the charger cord is REALLY short. So, it makes it difficult to charge your phone and talk on it if needed. Otherwise, great phone without a camera - has blue tooth capabilities and decent ringtones. Easy to use and really THIN. I bought a cover for it that clips into your pants from Cingular which works great. Overall, I think it's a great phone for someone who doesn't need a camera phone.

The phone fits well into my hand.
    The sound quality is great.
Came with lots of ring tones.
The size is small, but it has everything I want in a phone.
Nice screen. Fits into my pocket, and isn't even noticable.
Motorola has been "hit and miss" the "V180" was a piece of garbage, The old "V60's" were great. So far this "L2" has been excellent. Still can't forgive them for the "V180". But, I think the "L2" is great. Maybe some day,
I will trust them again, as much as "Nokia".
Overall, the "L2" has exceeded my expectations. Its a keeper.
