Motorola I870 (Sprint Nextel)

Bought one for my wife. Had to enter into a 2 year agreement just to get it down to $399.00. Found this one on ebay and trying to get it for myself to avoid another contract. Ringtones, wallpaper, MP3, and Camera are the best features to this phone. The games downloaded are high resolution and the music played through the phone sound crystal clear! Really working hard for this bid!

The i870 is superior to any other phone I have ever owned (2 other Nextel compatable phones, 2 erricsons, a nokia, and a motorola) in almost every respect.

First, the bad news. It is relatively big, fat, and heavy. I almost didn't get it for this reason.

Now that I have it, I am really happy with it. Here are the things I like about this phone:

1) sound quality is excellent, truly excellent. The voice is not only the clearest of any phone I have ever owned, It also has a very large "sweet spot" on the ear piece.

2) the screen is large, bright, and colorful.

3) the push button flip is great (but since the phone is heavy, make sure you are holding it tight or it can pop out of your hand when it pops open).

4) the speakerphone is top quality. The person on the other end can't even tell they are on speakerphone. The sound quality at my end is excellent as well.

5) the interface. I love the ability to program all the keys and soft keys for the features I use most often.

6) everything else: the MP3, removable memory card, GPS, bluetooth, etc. To be honest, I havn't used these features yet. I look forward to playing with them when I have the time.

All in all, this is an excellent phone. I don't regret spending the extra money, because this phone is worth it.

I have had this phone now since it came out, i have since passed it on to my father who also uses nextel he loves it it works great and takes a beating we work as carpenters, www.stevescarpentry.org , and we both put our phones through alot of battle and use and this one lasts!

I really can't find anything in this phone I DISLIKE... per se.

My initial thought of the phone was that it was thinner and lighter than most Nextel Models I've ever had (In the past, I've had the i95cl, the i730, the i560y, then this) and was pleasantly suprised by how many features are jam-packed into this little phone!

The inside display is REMARKABLY bright; it's brighter than the LCD on my Laptop!

The auto-open hinge could be a LITTLE bit stronger, as with my leather case on the phone, it needs just a touch of help getting all the way open, but with the flick of my wrist, or holding it sideways while I open it, it's no problem at all. Much easier to deal with while driving than any other Nextel so far...

All in all, I'm VERY satisified with this purchase, and would highly recommend anyone who needs the functionality of a great phone with an AWESOME sounding MP3 player. It's well worth the money.

On the plus side, the Motorola i870 (Nextel/BoostMobile only) has superior sensitivity to some other iDen phones (my GF's i855e lost carrier in the Hollywood Hills while mine was still connected). Bluetooth connections are easy and sound great (the auto-answer function in my headset works with the phone and voice-dialing is reliable). The phone is solid with easy-to-use buttons and a clear, good-sized display, but still fits in my pants pocket. I added a Gigabyte of storage for multimedia (MP3s as well as pictures and video I have taken) for $12.

On the minus side, when the phone is connected to my computer's USB port, the extra memory is not available (I have to remove the memory card, put it in an adapter, then insert it into a card reader to transfer files). It is possible to transfer files via Bluetooth to other devices, but only one at a time. Voice dialing is tied to the SIM card, which has three drawbacks (the number of voice dials is limited by the SIM card's memory, each voice dial command is limited to 2 seconds and all voice dial presets are lost when you remove the SIM card).

The camera is better than most cell phones, but nowhere near as good as my digital camera. You can make presets to quickly get to most camera functions with a single button press, but video recording is not one of those functions, so you have to familiarize yourself with the menu sequence if you have a Michael Richards moment. Battery life is not as good as my previous phone (i730), possibly because the display is bigger and brighter, but probably because I usually have Bluetooth on when I use the phone. A more powerful battery with an extended cover can be had for around $30, last I checked.

I like the phone. It is not perfect, but meets my needs and most of my wants.

I am really happy with my i870 and people who have newer, more expensive phones, wish they also had gone with the i870. Even the seller who had gotten a new i880 told me he wished he had just kept the i870 but he had a service plan change and had an opportunity to get a new phone. It is not in the current Nextel/Sprint offering but don't let that detour you on getting one, it is still on the Motorola site. I just slipped my sim card in from my i760 and everything was still there and worked perfectly. I didn't even notify Nextel/Sprint of the change; it was sensed by their system and they automatically updated the records and when I questioned it they said it was no problem and people do it all the time, no extra charges. I do recommend using the clip or some other cover for it so that you don't scratch that big beautiful screen. Mine didn't come with a manual but I downloaded one from the Motorola site for free and now I've got it on-line, not the clumsy big book that falls apart anyways! You are going to love this phone!

I think the phone info is a horriable. ! have owned this phone before and it has never had good connnections!It is HORRABLE it has bad service and everything!!!

We bought the phone because it was a reasonable price. When we received the phone it would not power up and had a damaged screen. We contacted the seller who was very hesitant to say anything other than he must have the phone before he made a refund. We sent the phone and have had very little communication with the seller directly. We spent $270.. for the price to include shipping. At one point we were told to make a claim to the shipping agency. We would have needed the phone back to do this. The package was not damaged and the phone was well packed so we can only assume the phone was not what was advertised when shipped. Our son opened the package and attempted to power up the phone in front of fellow employees at work. They observed the damage and the fact the phone was not operable. When we purchased the phone we asked about a SIM card and were told there would be one with the phone. It was not sent and when we questioned this the seller said he would buy one and mail it. If there was originally a SIM card why did he change his communication to say that he would purchase one. We have had other contacts both buyers and sellers and all were great. We have not made many sales or purchases but have positive reviews from all. Both my wife and are are retired professionals and have good reputations in the community.We do not need to cheat anyone out of $270 and would never do so.

I love the phone. It was in perfect condition. Had never been opened. It works great. The phone was $499.00 at Sprint store and I paid half that amount and received it very fast and did not have to deal with salesmen trying to sell me more gadgets.

I recently picked up the i870 and I like it so far. The phone has a good design and to me it isn't heavy or bulky. I'd rather have a phone that can be dropped without shattering to 1000 pieces. The mp3 and video feature on the phone are great! If you get a tf card, you can fit alot of multimedia which always keeps you entertained. The camera is decent on the phone but there are better ones. For nextel, this phone is a definate step in the right direction. Be aware though that you need a BLACK sim card in order to search the net and actually know who is sending messages to you. I do not have a black sim now as I have the origional that came with the i830 I 1st had. Good phone though and I'd recommend.

There was nothing good about this phone.
Add stated excellent condition. Phone was overly scratched, dented battery cover, and antenna that looked like someone had chewed on it. The phone showed signs of damage from being dropped. The paint was completely scratched off on lower bottom corner. We took product to a local Sprint/Nextel dealer, We asked the dealer in his own words to describe the condition of the phone. Dealer said "This handset is in poor abused condition." and "You paid HOW MUCH for that?" The product was returned minus our costs we paid for shipping. We were out about $8.00 buyers beware. Sellers decribe products accurately. Show REAL pics of the phone and any damage. Stock pics only cover up something you are hiding.

It has a beautiful color display is really clear colors are crisp a really great phone, I do have one issue with it and that is it is a battery hog and wears out the battery really fast.The camera takes typical phone quality pictures, and the playback is clear.

I wanted this phone as a gift for my girlfriend and at the same time I wanted one for myself because I thought the whole mp3 thing would be cool and it's supposed to be the step up from the I860 that I already have. Well the mp3 thing is a waste of time and money. The phone can only play files that are less than 192k bitrate, and for those of you who download music, most of my collection of downloaded songs is a higher bitrate, only my uploaded songs are 128k. On top of that there is an issue where the phone can only recognize files with name lengths of less than 32 characters. Which makes this thing usesless unless you spend all day renaming your files that you put on the memory card. Also, it only comes with a card reader and a 32mb card. You can fit maybe 10 songs on that if you are lucky so you have to shell out more cash outta pocked to buy a larger memory card. I cant believe it doesnt come with a Nextel Data Cable, but then what else could they break it off in you for?
In general, Nextel has some of the most useless and overpriced phones on the market. This one is a definite waste. The only good things are that you can record 30 second video clips, the camera is a higher resolution than the 860, and the brighter, bigger, more colorful screen for the phone is cool. Other than that its not worth your money, and neither are the 920 or 930.

i had i 860 before this phone and it was a camera phone and i have to say that this i 870 is the best phone by nextel as of yet clear camera and clear speaker. my radio for my car was out for repair so i used the mp3 player as my radio sounded great had a play list

i recomend this phone to all it a lil pricey though

I am a cell phone JUNKY. I don't have this particular phone. I am using my pop's old one from his old job workin for a local pizza joint (GO UNCLE SAM'S PIZZA!). Had to throw that in there, props to ol'uncle sam for those great pies. Anyway back to swiggety sweet phone. I just love me some motorola, booya! My phone doesnt do anything this phone does. In fact Im missin some buttons on mine. I am indeed in need of an upgrade. This is the Rolls of phones, mine is a Pinto, word. Hey yo sweet Betsy Crocker check me out. We ordered and paid for this item for a week before seller informed us that the item had been misrepresented by his company. Then it took 2 weeks to get my refund but I did get it. At the time I was quite upset but am over it now.

great buy.... was looking for an inexpensive replacement for my daughter's phone. she absolutely loves it. the turn around time was great. i don't think she ever puts it down. we had been watching several items on ebay for about a week, she found this one and she is actually the one who bought it.

The I870 phone has the best display of all the Nextel phones, well next to the IC902 but that is more like a Sprint phone to me, anyway this phone is very solid, the speaker is very loud, feels solid in the hand, service is good, like most phones it just depends on where you live. You have your button on the side to open the phone, this is good if you have a drink in one hand and get a call. It is bluetooth equipped and has various Java applications you can put on the phone. I have had most Nextels out there, and they all have the same basic setup, the menus are all the same for the most part so what sets each phone aside is either the display, if its rugged, or if its clam shell or a stick, so you decide what style you want and you can narrow down your choice very easy. For me this is the nicest phone Nextel has, I am big on the display, the rest is all the same. Hope this helps you decide on a Nextel phone, if you need a runner up the I860 is a great phone minus the MP3 player.

I DECIDED TO BUY IT BECAUSE I NEEDED A NEW PHONE BUT I AM REALLY UPSET I CAN NOT INSURE IT BECAUSE ACCORDING TO NEXTEL IT IS IN SOMEBODYS ELSE ACCOUNT ALSO THE CHARGE WILL ONLY LAST ABOUT 4 HRS I SENT A MESSAGE TO SELLER ABOUT THE PROBLEM OF INSURING IT AND GOT AN ANSWER HE WAS CHECKING ON IT BUT STILL HAVE NOT HEARD FROM HIM SO TODAY I SENT ANOTHER NOTE ASKING FOR MY MONEY BACK AND I WANT A ANSWER PHONE WAS ADVERTISE AS IN GREAT CONDITION NOTHING WRONG WITH IT EXCEPT I CAN NOT USE IT ALL DAY WITHOUT CHARGING IT 2 OR 3 TIMES I ASKED FOR MY MONEY BACK AND THEN I WILL OVERNIGHT IT BACK TO HIM
