Not as Tough as it Appears

When I switched service to Nextel they offered this phone for free. Describing it as tough but with most of the desired features, I went for it. It wasn't long before the battery cover would no longer stay on (unless I use masking tape) and after dropping the phone literally one time, the speakerphone and even the ringer does not work. I am not in construction or in any field where it would get heavy abuse, or even heavy use. I am a teacher and use my phone some evenings on weekends. I am disappointed in this phone and I am surprised at it's lack of durability as it is a Motorola. Make your decision carefully and buyer beware. I would have rather shelled out more to get a better phone.

I purchased this phone for my husband who totally loves it. This was an upgrade from the i530 phone. He is hard on phones and this phone has held up to his abuse. It has a nice vivid color screen and a well lit keypad. He does not have as many dropped calls as he did with the i530. This is a great basic everyday phone for the rugged person in your life.

  Finally...one that will last!!

I thought my i95 was the best. It got stolen and I couldn't get it replaced. I bought a 275 (with camera) and tried an i710. Nothing measured up. I then bought an i560 - I'm in love with this phone!! I am tough on my phones..in the car it is generally in my lap and I forget when I exit the vehicle and <BOOM> on the cement it goes. This phone has been dropped many times and the outside still looks brand new and works like it just came out of the box. I got the yellow and black version because it is easily seen when the lighting is dim or in the bottom of my purse!! The keypad is just the right size and lights up for greater visibility in the dark. It is narrower and flatter than the i530, so it fits easily into pockets or purses, etc. I even bought one on ebay for my husband, who goes through phones frequently due to breakage. He has had his for several months now and he is thrilled with it. It has a vibrant color screen, many available download options for most settings, and because it is a flip phone, I am not accidently calling people at odd times of the night because I leaned against a counter or something. All-in-all...this phone surpasses my expectations (even beats the i95). I would recommend the i560 to anyone.

  I560 and-or i580 the only phone for mechanics/metal fab
Review created: 06/13/07

Every phone I have had that I carried at work lasted a month or so before the mic & speakers went bad on them, (including 2 cingular phones I ruined), and that IS with them in a very quality case. I am a fleet mechanic. I grind alot of metal at my job. The fine metal particals suck right into all the wrong parts of all the other phones I've smoked. The i560 & i580's have a VERY fine mesh screen over the microphone/speaker magnets that I simply blow off with compressed air about every week or 2. I had my last one for a year. I NEVER had a problem. I just changed jobs. My last i560 was not "mine" it was the company I worked for who owned it, and had bought just that one specifically for me because I was going through the 710's, that everybody else there got, @ ~ 1 a month. I have just set up my own nextel account solely so that I could get another i560, despite my having another year left on my cingular contract.Somebody else complained that you can only see that you missed a call, but not what the number that called was from. this isn't true. You just have to look in the call log for the last call to see who it was. The i580 is also nice, but only if you want to spend an extra $200 for the camera (my boss had been so impressed with mine he had to have the nicer one of the military spec'd phones for himself). These phones can also be used as a short range walkie-talkie if you are FAR FAR out of ALL networks and with-in (I think it is) 3 miles of another capable user/phone. VERY nice for camping/hiking/ect... I hope they never stop making these military spec'd phones or I'll be back to monthly replacements ;) The only thing I don't like is that these type of phones are ONLY available for nextel (read as $$$$)....Though thats not the phones fault heheheh ;P BEST-PHONE EVAH !!!! Though if you text alot and aren't around alot of metal dust there are better phones for you out there than these. Also mine have been fully drenched when doing road-side service and dropped more times than I care to count. I NEVER had a problem beyond the battery cover popping off once. Also the guy I'd been working for had driven his i580 over with a Caterpillar 236 w/ metal trax. Again, NEVER had a problem. These are fully industrial grade phones in my experience.

pros vs. cons review.- Let others know if this helped u
Review created: 02/09/07
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

PROS:
1) Improvement to i530's lack of external caller ID, better reception, lighter and smaller.
2) Direct Talk / Group Connect
3) Bright easy-to-use color internal screen
4) All the options of your typical GSM unit
5) Loud standard ring tones
6) Both speakers are of industry leading quality

CONS:
1) No Camera (but thats not why you should be looking into a rugged phone to begin with - if needed see i580)
2) Max battery life is 2 days with normal use (if an issue purchase the extended battery and battery door (black only) model# NNTN4655)
3) Slow data transfer (but faster than i530) - data isn't Nextel's strong point

Overall: A-

This phone is worth every penny.

  Nextel Motorola I560
Review created: 09/19/06
by:
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I had a great I90c to start with. When it disappeared, Nextel sent me an I760 color phone. I was not happy from the start. Color, oh wow, great. I could not even put my full phone list in it, which only held 100 numbers. As an emergency phone with my core numbers as my back up, ok. As my primary phone, NO WAY. I need a tough phone that has a robust tolerance for varied temperatures and other extremes that the "replacement phone" could not survive in. I was patient and became informed on what my options were within the Nextel product lines. I have been rewarded with the I560! I have been using it only a short while and have been pleasantly surprised with no dropped calls and very few dead spots. In the dead spots I have been able to access the 6 mile radio feature to daisy chain any message back through any of my local contacts. So far I believe that this phone has surpassed my expectations and it's 5 day standby has helped this small tough piece of tech lead me into the current century of work flow connectivity.

Upgraded from i530 to the i560. I'm happy to see that Nextel is continuing their lineage of tough phones. Screen is sharp and clear. Sound quality is great. Signal strength and battery life appear to be above average for a color screen phone full of options. Good buy.

I like this phone. I purchased 25 for our company.
12 months into our 24 month contract, about 1/2 of them are dead or broken.
We have problems with battery drain, flips breaking, and sound quality.

These are very rugged phones. We use them in construction and they regularly get dropped, wet, weld spattered, and generally abused. They seem to hold up well.

The Motorola/Nextel i560 is one of the sturdiest phone Motorola ever made for Nextel service. It is water resistant and rubber lined for an easy hand grip. If you work out doors and are in the construction trades this could be the phone for you.

This phone is bullet proof. It has been dropped, rained on, and a couple of times it has even been thrown. Hehe.

It is rugged, has a color display, and is discreet compared to some of the other 2-way phones.

  My thoughts on I560
Review created: 03/03/08

1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I recently bought the I560 it is a good simlpe phone with plenty of features. The best feature that I like about it is the outer house very durable makes it hard to get damaged in case it is dropped I am very rough with my phone and that is what drove me to getting this phone the fact that it can take a beating. Any one that does alot of labor in a rought enviroment should look into getting one of these phone for that reason.

I love how rugged the phone is. You can drop it and it can still function. Only one weakness to the casing..... between the battery door and charge plugin, it's extremely fragile. A small, thin piece a flimsy plastic. Other that this phone rocks!!

I loved the fact that the phone was just as it was pictured. I ordered it because I am a Nextel subscriber & all of the phones are so expensive. To find a phone unlocked & in good concition is rare on Ebay. It was definitely a pleasure.
