Finally, a great phone to accommodate great service!

Typically I haven't been satisfied with the quality of mobile phones that any of the mobile providers offer. My last phone was a Nokia and was very reliable (in service and durability) but very bulky. I have been very satisfied with Verizon service in the past 2 years that I've had it. So the only thing I needed was a good phone to complement my great service. The e815 is just that phone.

Sound quality - Compared to my old Nokia, which I thought did the job, the P2P sound this phone produces is very clear and almost digital sounding.

Bluetooth - I use Bluetooth with it and it works great even though data transfer is disabled. I'm not the guy that would use if for that purpose so I suppose if you wanted that you'd be disappointed.

Durability - So far it appears to be holding up very well (it's only been a month or so). I ordered the extended warranty with it. A learning lesson from all my previous phone experiences. But I'm not sure I really need it. I don't get the feeling this thing is gonna shatter if I drop it.

Size - It's not the Razr, but then again I heard the Razr has been a technological disappointment, so I am willing to sacrifice size for sound quality, digital reception, and durability. It's still well-packaged for all the features it offers.

Features - Offers more than any other phone I've had. It's a very easy-to-use UI with all the features that phones are offering right now. 1.6MP camera, PIX Messaging, Txt Messaging, MP3 ringtones, ringback tones, VCast (which isn't available in all areas yet). My favorite feature is the Message Center where you can look at all your different types of messages (voice, txt, pix) and very easily access them. Speakerphone is also available on this which can be useful. And the voice recognition is pretty good (although not great when you're going through Bluetooth).

If you're looking for a good, reliable phone, I think Motorola produced a winner with this one.

Solid phone with great features (e.g. OBEX)

About Verizon: I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and I had been using Sprint PCS for the past 5 years because of a good corporate contract. I recenlty moved to a new house and the Sprint coverage completed dropped. Verizon turned out to be the only provider that worked in our area. So I picked up a e815 and I was sold.

About the e815: The Razr looked cool but it just didn't have the same features as the e815. The e815 is better than it's predecssor because it supports blue tooth transfers (although via a hack OBEX). I am able to transfer all types of MP3s, Videos, Pictures, Phone Contacts, and Calendar entries via bluetooth. Look on eBay and you can find dozens of merchants selling software and cables to help you set this up. In addition, the speakerphone on this phone is excellent. I am able to put the phone on the dashboard while driving and still have a normal conversation.

Though, the battery life is weak which is the only reason I'm not giving a 5/5.

  THE PHONE HAS IT ALL

This cell phone is amazing. I like how you can get a memory card for it and load pictures and music on the phone. I just went to Colorado and used the phone to take perfect pictures in the mountains. And the memory on the phone is already huge. There are only 2 problems with this phone. It is rather large compaired to the last phone that I had and the songs that you load from a memory card can not be used as ringtones because they force you to buy ring tones from them. Other then that the phone is great and picks up reception wonderfuly. And I got the phone for free by have a two year agreement with verison and i also got the phone online from verison and saved me another $50!!! so it was free. No better phone for this price!

  Motorola e815 (Verizon Wireless)
Review created: 03/28/06

This review is for the Motorola e815 for the Verizon Wireless network. This phone has 1X and EVDO capabilities, VCast, Get It Now, a built in 1.3 megapixel digital camera, camcorder, speakerphone, and Bluetooth wireless technology.

This is an excellent looking phone. It has a lot of standard features but it still falls short of LG and Samsung. The Keypad is well laid out and has large buttons; those worried about fat fingering numbers will welcome this. The Navigation Key and OK button in the center of the navigation button some may find a bit small and difficult to work with. This model has the ability to add additional memory via the transflash port, those into the media player thing will love this. This phone has full Bluetooth capabilities that have been turned off at the request of Verizon Wireless. There are ways to unlock all functions of Bluetooth if you don’t mind hacking into your phone. The resources are readily available on the Internet, just be aware that once you start to play with your phone you forfeit all manufactures and carrier warranties. In other words, make sure you know what your doing before you start or you run the risk of owning a pretty paperweight. The case on this phone has much improved over the high gloss plastic that easily was scratched on the V710 model. Over all a sleek phone, great primary or backup phone if you lost your main phone or it was stolen.

Excellent Phone. Way better than the V710

5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I just purchased this phone as a replacement for my V710. I enjoyed the V710 but had some problems with the software. After my thrird v710 was replaced due to problems accessing get it now and mobile web features failed to work. I convinced verizon to give me the e815 because the 710 was discontinued. When i got to play around with the phone i noticed that even though it is alot better even though they look alot that same. They use alot of the same assessories ie. chargers batterys. The bluetooth software is better allowing you to even check your battery or check signal strength. Mobile web 2.0 is awesome. I cant wait till vCast comes to my area.

A great phone! Has everything the razr has but costs less. Trades analog for EVDO (high speed data), so if you live in the middle of nowhere or need analog service I would recomend the simular V710. Highly customizable, you can choose what your shortcut buttons do. Ready to use voice command system you don't have to train. Good camera, video is a bit fuzzy though. Good reception. Vibrate is weak, and it won't vibrate and ring at the same time. I love the big screen. It has a good amount of built in memory (44920kb). Careful of the Verizon phones, they like to disable features. I would say it's the best phone I've owned.

  2 Motorola E815's
Review created: 08/02/07

3 of 7 people found this review helpful.

My wife and I love the ease, durability and operation of the E815 and so far its dependability. But as for as the phones's reception it depends on who you talk to. I would say the phone is average or above with just a few dropped calls but my wifes phone is a piece. We live in a rural area 20 miles from a major city. Go 2 miles east, north or west and her phone is a good as a rock to your ear, but mine is still nominal for a low signal area but tons better than the LG and other Motorola phones we've tried and man we have tried alot. I beat the hell outta mine farming and hers rests gently in her purse, mine gets dropped and banged up by me and all the kids cause I forget to put it up and hers sits comfortably charging on the counter. I'm beginning to think we got a lemon. Bought both new. If Alltel would just add some towers in the rural areas that are only 25 miles from major cities so we wouldn't drop calls, I think I'd have a phone thats stood up to the test and is a keeper. Really the only thing negative about the E815 is that the earpiece and speaker phone are now distorted when sounds come across them. Either from having it turned up all the way in the tractor or something broke loose from dropping it!! And quit putting buttons on the side of the phone that turn off or mute the dang ringer. This is friggin nuts. How you expect me to hear the phone ring when while on my belt I accidentally "bumped the side buttons" while wrestling calves down for tagging and given shots or I'm splittin the tractor changing out the clutch. Next time a phone maker wants to put a phone to the test, here's what they sould do first. Have each person in line to get a phone turn their hands over and inspect their calices. If their palms are as smooth as my 2-year olds behind, havem walk away. If they buck bales without any gloves and can finish woodwork without sandpaper, they are the ones you want testing your phone. It don't do any good having joe blow city slicker carrying around a cell phone when the roughest thing he's around is the file his wife uses on hers and probably his fingernails. The only time its close to moisture is when he throws his cloths on it in the gym bag when leaving the health club cause he's too lazy to do anything at home. And last but not least his cumfy ride back and forth to the office is not a good test of the phones ruggedness. Strap in on the waist of someone bouncin around on an old John Deere without a cab or on a cop who's gotta chase joe stupid ass law breaker and jump on him with a little bit of whoop azz or on billy bob fireman who's gotta carry about 75-80 lbs. of stuff on him while taking care of your dumbbutt cause you plugged too many of your city slicker toys together on one plug-in or you left your stupid aroma therapy candles burning after a really exhausting day sitting on his butt at the office. Tell ya what, send'em over with our boys and girls workin their butts off over in Iraq to keep our saggy butts free, yes free. Right wrong or indifferent, they gottit rough...thats where we need to test these babies out. 1st they gotta be American made, then thy gotta hold up to these standards. If they don't, sendem over to Iran just as they are and tell them this is the latest and greatest we could come up with. First they wouldn't use em cause they'd have to put down their rocket launcher and not feel safe and second the ringer might scare off their sheep they've been using instead of women!

  Motorola E815 Cell Phone
Review created: 11/01/06

The phone I bought works fine (although the adjustments seem a bit loose on the flip part of the phone and more scuffed up than I would have liked). Although I do understand that I am buying a used phone...not a new one. However the thing I was most disappointed about was that the seller did not include a copy of the owners manual & so programing anything has been a time consuming task if not impossible. Lesson for future buyers of cell phones...always ask if the owners manual is included!

  Worst phone i've ever had.....
Review created: 10/07/06
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I purchased 2 brand new motorola e815 phones from verizon in July 2006, i've been back to the store six times about both of these phones. They gave us new e815 phones each time and the new ones did the same as the old ones. The main problem is when plug the charger in, the phone either cuts completly off or won't charge at all. Some times when charging the screen turns blue. Verizon keeeps telling me that the connector is loose or dirty. They won't let me change to a different phone made by another company. I will never purchase another product made by motorola, in the past i always used samsung or nokia and never had a problem. Do not buy one of these phones, you'll be sorry.

This is my second one. My husband got the LG VX8100. My Motorola has much better reception, longer battery life, larger display (it looks that way) it is also better looking phone. It is a lot bigger too however. Otherwise it is very functional, good speakers, idiot proof operation. Like my extra miniSD slot for mp3’s. CAREFUL with any moisture!!! I had literally few drops of water on it (back) and the dial buttons quit operating. There is a small paper on the battery that will turn red if it detects moisture. If that happens, you can put the phone into garbage can.

Decent old phone, may have a deal breaker tho.
Review created: 06/28/08

This phone is one of the better phones made as far as call reception, signal strength. Its outdated now. but the quality is excellent. Nice mix between big/little. I actually pefer the larger type phones.

Now the deal breaker: I couldnt give it 5 stars cuz for some reason every E815 I had the charger port ends up breaking after awhile. I mean actually breaking where u have to get it sent in for service of buy a new phone.

Because of the charger port breaking, it couldnt get 5 stars. And thats the only reason I didnt give it 5.

MP3 player, cool display, great 1.3-MP camera, speakerphone, a TransFlash card slot, Bluetooth, and an MP3 player.

The bummer is that it has a slippery keypad, bad reception, no analog roaming and bluetooth file transfers have been disabled. Why??? I dont know.

  Wonderful Phone
Review created: 09/25/06

I like just about everything about this phone. I like the solid feel and size. The controls are easy enough to understand and use of the transflash card make adding music and ringtones super easy. I lost my phone and am missing it already. I will definately going to be looking for another one.

The only con is the side buttons to change the ringer when the phone is closed. It's pretty easy to accidentally bump them and change the tone to silent. I've missed a few calls because of this.

I've never used the Bluetooth or internet connections so I can't make comments about that.

This is probably the best phone Motorola has available presently, aside from the Q. Great features, excellent form factor, and beautiful display. If you use Verizon and don't need a PDA-Smart phone, this is the best phone you could choose, by far.

  MOTOROLA E 815

Best phone I have had in 13 years. E815 performs nearly everything an i-phone does way before the i-phone even came out. Pics are only 1-2 mpxl but incredibly clear if you print them up or send electronically to Wal-Mart. Phone stores 1000#s, easy to use. Gets Axcess TV with 40 channels, internet, take video clips up to 5 minutes each. Nearly unlimited storage with use of trans flash adaptor card. I have used this model for 5 years and was happy to find a new one on e-bay to replace my worn out one. It is made a little more rugged than todays phones which are so fragile and easy to break.

Phone was not programmed for my carrier and when I tried to get another phone, I felt since "Just Cellular" had made a mistake that they should ship a new phone overnight and include a label for me to return the deffective phone. So far its been 3 days since I called for a replacement and my new phone is not here. In addition, they sent me an e-mail with the address to return the old phone.....ON MY OWN DIME.

This company really needs to re-evaulate their return process when the problem is their fault.
