Synopsis Growing up with her large Mexican American family in San Diego in the late 1960s, fourteen-year-old Yolanda tries to help her favorite brother Chuy, a Vietnam veteran, who has returned from the war and is suffering emotional problems.
Yoli's brother Chui returns from Vietnam to their San Diego Latino neighborhood, a hostile, angry man who immediately buys himself a Harley and leaves town. Yoli, left with a troubled houseful of parents and siblings, tries to cope with her own adolescence, her domineering father, her difficult sisters, and then--eventually--Chui's return and its violent conclusion.
