Paraphsycology? You need to read this.

I bought this book because I read it many years ago and loved it. There was a lot of consternation about it at the time - and a great deal more subsequently. Harry Price, (god rest his soul), in my humble opinion, did his best to study the subject and present it as factually as possible. His memory was slated somewhat following his extensive study on Borley Rectory and for the life of me I will never understand why. Is it because he had the audacity to admit that perhaps there are some things that we fail to understand when all other options have been explored? This man was a credit to the Society of Parapsychological Research yet certainly one of his colleagues did his best (I say one .... ) to bring this man into disrepute. To my mind Harry did his best and presented an interesting and provocative report on the strange things that ocurred at Borley and did his best to find a logical explanation for the phenomena. It is not a ghost story - don't fool yourselves - but it is certainly a worthy read for those of us who look for explanations. I will never say he was right but I totally refute the insinuation in retrospect by others of the SPR that he sensationalised this story. For the love of God it wasn't really the stuff that is going to make movies!
In short - read this book if you are lucky enough to find it in this day and age. I think the man did his duty as an investigator and still left many questions totally unexplained.
Read it. Draw your own conclusions. Follow it up by reading the later books and papers presented by his Peers, and then draw some more conclusions. Harry Price may have made a bit of money out of his book and personally I am in no way leaning towards the belief that he was the charlatan he was painted to be by certain members of the SPR.
Borley Rectory burned down long before my time but I did take the time to visit the area. It isn't quite right in my opinion - and I formed the opinion when I thought I was still in Sudbury. I don't profess to be a medium, spiritualist, receptive etc blah blah blah, but in truth I think he acted in the best interests of those concerned. He never proved anything but it is thought provoking at the very outside.
Even as a sceptic you must read this book.
