Mortal Kombat 2 for the Genesis is a marvel to the series. It differs from the Super Nintendo in the following ways: #1 The Genesis Title Music is in the right place
#2 The Super Nintendo has a two second pause when the announcer says "FIGHT!"
#3 The Genesis version explodes with special features in a cheat menu
#4 Rayden has a secret finisher on the Genesis version
#5 The annoying floating Shadow Priest in the tower is removed on the Genesis
#6 The organs in Rayden and Shang Tsung's fatalities are more realistic on Sega
#7 The characters look more hand-drawn on Nintendo
#8 The Gameplay on Sega is more like Mortal Kombat, quick and deadly
#9 The fatalities are easier to do on Sega.
Overall, Probe did us an excellent favor converting Mortal Kombat on Sega.

  Midway wins: FATALITY
Review created: 08/24/04

Pros:
Graphics, fatalitys, best Mortal Kombat, music,

Cons:
having to press a button to block, 6-Button pad really required

MK2 was the game in which Mortal Kombat delivered not only the awesome atmosphere of the series, but also good gameplay. While in both its arcade and home format ports Mortal Kombat had oozed an awesome atmosphere with excellent music, stages and presentation, it had been more than a bit lacking in terms of gameplay. Mortal Kombat 2 was released to a genuine wave of excitement amongst fans of the original. And it delivered more than they could have hoped for. I remember back when my local video rental shop used to rent out games, MK2 was pre-booked for weeks in advance. The shop had to get in.

Hours and hours of endless fun...

Pros:
Excellent gameplay, simple controls, fatalities

Cons:
Choppy graphics, violent to some

I still remember the time when the Sega Genesis was the console to have. Everyone around me owned one. All my friends kept telling me about games such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Kabuki Warriors, Golden Axe and FIFA 95. I really wanted one of these consoles, but because of my parents' strict rules on games becoming addictive and not being of any help, they never allowed me to own a Sega Genesis. So whenever one of my friends talked about their Sega Genesis, I would envy them so much. However, when I came to visit my cousins in the Philippines over the summer holiday, I noticed that they had a Sega.

  That's, Uh... Raspberry Jam!

Pros:
Even cooler Fatalities!

Cons:
Even more unnecessary violence... And therefore more unnecessary controversy for the gaming industry

After the massive, shocking bloodletting seen in the original Mortal Kombat, programmers Ed Boon and John Tobias probably wondered how they would ever top themselves. Eventually they figured out a way, but it was essentially the same way everyone else does sequels: Add more characters, moves, backgrounds, blood and make the graphics even prettier. All the jazz that doesn t matter. Mortal Kombat 2 was successful because it had something the first game didn t: A requirement of skill. Now everyone who loved the original REALLY loves the sequel, and so Mortal Kombat becomes a phenomenon. There...

Mortal Kombat 2: An Oral History
Review created: 04/12/07
by: bloodymadness -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Better controls, more characters, gruesome fatalities

Cons:
cheap blocking/sweeping, AI a bit unfair

There is really nothing that needs to be said about the influence that the original Mortal Kombat had when it was released in the arcades nationwide in 1992. Most people have heard the controversial stories a million times over about MK's excessive violence and over the top death moves (fatalities). It was the video game that parents hated and teenage boys adored. While the graphics of the game left something to be desired and the there were only 7 characters to choose from, Mortal Komabt was a simple innovative fighting game that had just enough time for improvement. And that improvement was.

  "Toasty!"
Review created: 11/10/02
by: NMD85 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Addictive gameplay, well done soundtrack, tight control, gruesome fatalities

Cons:
Shoddy animations, washed-out colors, poor sound, no pause button, "The Glitch"

Ever since the dawn of home console Mortal Kombat titles, the Genesis and Super Nintendo versions of each game always had different products to display. The Super Nintendo version always emulated the likeness of the arcade version while the Genesis version did in less than noticable ways but still delievering a more controversial product usually displaying more blood. Ever since the Genesis version of Mortal Kombat II released alongside the Super Nintendo release of the same game, it couldn't help to find criticism in noticing all that was inferior in the Genesis port. Sadly, for Genesis...
