Mortal Danger, and Other True Cases by Ann Rule (2008, Paperback)

Ann Rule rarely, if ever disappoints. This collection includes one long case and a handful of shorter ones. One minor quibble, she includes a teaser at one point indicating that one of the cases had a serious impact on the campaign of a major Presidential contender in the 2008 race. I follow politics very closely, especially the historic 2008 election, both during the primary and general campaigns of both parties and I was wracking my brain trying to figure out who she was was referring to. I won't name the candidate, so as not to be a spoiler, but suffice to say, I did not hear anything about this crime that connected it to the candidate on a national scale, so I think she may have overstated that bit of trivia. The link was tenuous at best. It was certainly no Michael Dukakis/Willie Horton moment, that's for sure!

But that's a minor point. Overall, Ann Rule does her usual superlative job of unobtrusively detailing the events that lead up to the crimes, the denouement and the aftermath. This isn't as easy as she makes it look. I recently read a book about a horrific crime, written by the father of the man who was killed. The man is not a writer and it shows. There is a reason why Rule Rules!

Also, the seller was prompt in delivering the book and the price was excellent, more reason to buy mass market paperbacks used.

I bought the book about a month ago. I saw this book in a book club mailing, and became interested in purchasing it. I found this to be cheaper on ebay than in the club mailing. I was pleased with the description of the quality of the book as well as finding it in the condition it was described as.

I love anything written by Ann Rule,,she has such insite to people..and always aints the picture with her words like your right there looking at things alongside her..wanted the book as i have all she has written..and you see into the peoples lifes she writes about ..be it good or bad..and she is i believe one of the Top True Crime writers.and she writes with passion you cn tell she likes her job..not so much the deaths or near deaths of the crimes..but a need to tell what the person was like,.not only the victim..but there familys and friends..and also the person who took there life. i would highly suggest everyone at least read one of her books..but this one..Mortal Danger is one of the very best she has written,.,
