Mornings on Horseback by David G. McCullough, David Willis McCullough (1982, Paperback)

This is a fascinating book about Teddy Roosevelt. Until I read it, I was unaware that he was responsible for our national park system. He led a life that was an endless adventure, both personally and politically. I recommend it highly. It's a great read!

This book is an excellent introduction to the early life of the 26th US President, Theodore Roosevelt. It paints a powerful look at the influences of family, health, environment and culture on the development of the president who almost single-handedly invented the modern presidency.

There is a little too much on all the ins and ours of Roosevelt's childhood asthma but the author wants you to understand the terrible toll that this illness took on young Teedie as he was called and how it shaped his perception of life, death and permanence.

As a card-carrying member of the Theodore Roosevelt Association, www.theodoreroosevelt.org, I can vouch for the author's ability to put you into the day-to-day life of this man who did more in 59 short years than any 10 other people do in 80 years.

Great book by a great author. I bought it for a gift for my husband who enjoyed two other books by this author. It's great for those who want to learn about history by reading a pleasant, true story. It's so much more enjoyable than reading a history text book.

This is a wonderful historical novel that makes the history come alive. McCullough's detail is sometimes difficult to wade through, but that's his style and adds credibility to the book. This book is well worth the time and cost.

I enjoyed this book about the early life of Teddy Roosevelt and the people who shaped his ideals. There is a number of information through diaries. One chapter even deals with Teddy`s bout with asthma. This books continues with Teddy`s early political life. Diary quotes amke this book a bit boring. At least we know that these people`s views are real and not a fictional Teddy.
