More Than a Carpenter by Josh McDowell (1987, Paperback, Special)

I love this book because it validates my Christianity. This author set out to prove that the divinity of Jesus was just a myth. However, he eventually converted based on the facts (more so than faith). He discusses fulfilled prophecies and looks at the life of Jesus and determines that there is no other alternative EXCEPT that Jesus IS the son of God. My conversion was based solely on faith, whereby his conversion was based more on research into the Bible and life of Jesus. This book brings out so many things I had never considered before as a Christian. Therefore, it just confirms to me that Jesus is alive and will return again.

I bought this book because it's one of my favorite books. I have read it before and I continue to give it away. So I am always looking for this book at an economical price. Ebay allows me to purchase it cheap enough to give away. This book is incredible for those who are skeptical about Christianity. So many people say the Bible is just another book written by men. But if anyone would read "More than a Carpenter", they would be able to see that the Bible is truly inspired by God. I just LOVE this book and I will continue to buy it and give it away as much as I can!

One of our favorite books! We buy many of these as often as we can find them and GIVE them to people who are seeking God or questioning their faith. It's a very small book--easy for anyone to read and understand, fast reading and scripturally accurate and appealing. We highly recommend it!

First of all, I would like to tell you a little story of how i came to acquire this book. Back in 2002-2003, I was working as a parking attendant at a residential/state building. I was working on the second shift(2-8pm) and there was this security guard who was working there and i would see him everytime that he would make his rounds, And we would say howzit(Hi or Hello in local launguage) to each other. Then one night he came by and introduced himself as Mike, and we got to talking and the conversation swayed to GOD. He shared his story and how he got called back to GOD. Then, I told him my story of how i was in Youth For CHRIST and how my friends and i use to have bible studies with our high school teacher. But, after high school everyone had gone their seperate ways and how i really didn't read the bible anymore. So, He got to telling me about an experience he had while in prison. He told me that one night while laying on his bed, He was reading Revelations out loud and the candle that he was using as light had extinguished and how it startled him. He told me that it is the demons doing that because they don't want to hear the end of them. So, like a skeptic would do, I brushed it off as hogwash. Until one day Mike had given me a bible to read. on that same day, I think it was a friday, I went home and decided to give it a try. I shut my door and made sure that my fan was off, Set up a candle in my room and opened the bible to revelations and started to read. After about 15 miutes, I swear the candle blew itself out and i jumped up and turned the lights on and stayed up till i could not keep my eyes open and fell asleep. I woke up still scared, got into the shower and dressed to go to work. Later on that night Mike came buy and i told him everything that had happened. He chuckled and told me i told you so. Well, That is when i started to read the bible again. I still had doubts about GOD until one day after work i was checking the mail in our building and on the counter of our mailroom was a couple of books and a CD just lying there. I picked them up to look if they belonged to anyone but there was no names on it. To my surprise it was a Youth For Christ CD(One Answer - with Christian singers) and a booklet from Youth For CHRIST (that i later found out to be like a Christian Apologetics book) and the other book was a small paperback book with a brown cover that had a picture of the cleanup after September 11 2001. The book was called More than a carpenter - 911 edition. The very next day i had brung the book to work so that i had something to read instead of watching movies(Yes being a parking attendant has it's perks). Anyway, I got to reading and found it very interesting, Especially about how JESUS had turned the author's life around(and his father's too), Being such an atheist and one who had set out to destroy the world of Christianity, Josh Mcdowell is now a revered man of CHRIST. This book is very gripping and it really sparked an interest in me and i started to look for more books by Josh Mcdowell or on Christian Apologetics. Last year i gave my life to our LORD JESUS CHRIST, AMEN, And i asked HIM if i could have a relationship with HIM. Ever since, HE has blessed me in many ways and now i am no longer the same man. excellent book, spiritually enhancing. a must-read book for those who doubt Jesus. McDowell really erased all my doubts. this book can make your spiritual life grow and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ

We needed this book as a homeschooling literature text this year and had to hurry and buy it before my child needed to read it. She did very well in her literature comprehension with the book, and the book will be well used in this house hold! I would certainly recommend this purchase if you use Sonlight as your homeschool curriculum.

I like how the author shows both sides. It is very well written, and has lots of references so you don't have to just take his word for it. A great read for Christians and especially for those that doubt Jesus is the Son of God.

This book should be read by everyone. After reading they can decide if they believe it. But they will have had an excellent presentation to offer the facts. It is a simple read so it doesn't waste your life. I highly reccomend More Than A Carpenter.

I read this book for school and loved it so much that I bought it as a gift. I like McDowell's perspective on Christianity, he made me think about things I had never thought about before.

Josh is an excellent writer and you'll enjoy every word. It's inpirational and uplifting all at once.

A quick and easy read. This book is an excellent source for logical and intellectual reasons to support your faith. Blind faith is not necessary when you have so much historical data to support your faith rationally.

Josh McDowell writes a compelling short book focused upon Jesus. He uses combination of pure logic, Bible passages, and common sense to re-inforce his key points about Jesus as the Son of God. For example, he states that Jesus was either a Lunatic, Liar, or Lord.

This book will challenge the thinking of dis-believers and re-inforce the faith of believers. The book is fairly short with easy to read text.

This book is a MUST READ!!

If you want to share Christ with someone this is the best way to start. It's basic christian apologetics that anyone (believer or non-believer) can easily understand. Cheap too!

This book is obviously dated. It attempts to explain why Jesus is the son of God and what proof there is of that fact. It does an average job of this. If your trying to debate with someone in simplistic terms this could work.

This book inspired my foundation of faith: 1)Jesus existed. 2)He is who He claimed to be:Lord. 3)He changes lives!

I gave this book for a gift to my son for Christmas.It was recommended to me by others. I have not heard if he has read it yet. But I have heard from numerous people that it is a very good reader.

I personally love this book!!! It really confirms that Jesus Christ rose from the dead. SOOOO Much Evidence, There is no way you could believe otherwise after reading this book. If you are questioning the resurrection of Jesus, then this book will prove to you which way is right.
