Album Notes Personnel includes: Elvis Presley (vocals); The Sweet Inspirations, Sherrill Nielson, Kathy Westmoreland, J.D. Sumner & The Stamps, Myrna Smith (background vocals). Engineers: Brian Christian, Mike Moran, Clair Brothers. Recorded between February 4, 1976 & April 25, 1977. Includes liner notes by Colin Escott. Elvis' last studio album is, in fact, a hodgepodge of recordings from several 1976 studio sessions and four concert tracks. Also included among the live songs are the Olivia Newton John hit, "If You Love Me (Let Me Know)," a pretty silly take on the Gladiolas' "Little Darlin'," and one of Elvis' favorite songs, "Unchained Melody." Studio tracks include covers of Jim Reeves' country hit "He'll Have to Go," the George Jones hit "She Thinks I Still Care," and two singles that reached the pop Top 40, "Way Down" and the title track. The abundance of country songs on MOODY BLUE reflects the shift in Presley's audience, as does the chart performance of both singles (each reached the number one position on Billboard's country chart). Presley's vocals for the studio tracks were recorded in his den at Graceland. | Find errors in the product description? Submit a catalog update request now. | ||||||||||||||||
Review created: 04/03/01 by: janehawkins -- a member of Epinions Pros: One of the best albums Elvis recorded Cons: None Moody Blue has got to be my all time favourite Elvis album, and believe me I have a lot of his albums! I think this one means so much because it was the last one he recorded and it is filled with such raw emotion that you cannot help but listen to every word and truly believe in what he is singing. Many of the songs are almost autobiographical, such as She thinks I still care. This is a very emotional song about a man trying to convince himself and others that he no longer cares about his ex, but it is obvious from his words and actions that this is far from the case. Maybe this is about Priscilla? It s easy for you. Again another song which brings Priscilla to mind. Here he is saying how easy it is for her to admit mistakes and take him back but because he is in the spotlight, he cannot. He is almost begging her to come back to him. It is sung with such feeling it is hard to imagine that he was not putting himself into the song. He ll have to go Again another one he seems to be singing solely for his ex-wife. Another sad and emotional song. Obviously there are other songs on the album, 7 in fact, some are fun and upbeat, others ballads. But everyone of them is sung with utmost feeling and heart-rending passion that you can t help but love everyone of them. Every time I listen to this album, I get tears in my eyes, tears of both joy and sadness. Joy that he made such an impact on my life and here is the music to prove it and sadness at the needless waste of his talented life.
