Young R&B siren Mya's voice first caught national attention with her song-stealing chorus on Pras's everpresent 1998 hit "Ghetto Superstar" from the movie "Bulworth." After that, it seemed the youthful singer with the dulcet, yet surprisingly acrobatic voice seemed to be everywhere; providing the hook for the theme to "The Rugrats Movie," teaming with Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, and Pink on "Lady Marmalade," and releasing her own records, as well as making a memorable acting turn in the blockbuster CHICAGO. Mya's third record MOODRING reveals her cinematic connection to be no coincidence, as it's full of drama, from the theatrical vocal phrasing to the lush production. Despite a gentle countenance, Mya's no fading flower, asserting her intellectual and sexual prowess throughout the album, from the first track "My Love Is Like...Wo." Mya's brazen attitude is perfectly tempered by an engaging pop-R&B approach straight from the playbook of the Jacksons' vintage '80s work, the best balance coming on breezy tracks like "Sophisticated Lady" and "Late."
