It was my favorite film in college and it still holds up. I was afraid I would be disappointed, but not a bit of it let me down. I keep trying to settle on a scene to quote that is the funniest and I'm just sitting here giggling and laughing. So I'll just say, "For life is quite absurd, & death's the final word; you must always face the curtain with a bow. Forget about your scene, give audience a grin; enjoy it, it's your last chance anyhow. So, always look on the bright side of life....
If you are a Monty Python fan, then this is the movie for you. I remember seeing "Life of Brian" for the first time back in the 1980's. The comedy contained in this movie is still hilarious today. "Life of Brian" contains many clever scenes that can be considered classic such as the "Pontious Pilot" scene and te "stoning" scene. Those scenes always makes me laugh so hard that I actually cry -- no matter how many times I've seen theme! I must say that this is a good movie but it has a rather disappointing ending, otherwise, I highly recommend it.
By far the funniest Monty Python movie ever made, although may appeal to Brits more than Americans, due to accents. Some say that this work of art is sacreligious, but please remember that it is not making fun of Jesus, just the way that the people of that time were so very ready to follow false idols. Brian's life runs parallel to that of Christ's, but there are very few referances to him, just histerically funny scenes with Centurians, Pilot, ancient militant groups (such as the PFJ - "People's Front of Judea") and of course occasional MP cartoonisms, coutesy of Terry Gilliam. Well worth seeing this movie!!!
As with all Monty Python movies, this film is irreverant. It out and out breaks social mores, which will completely unnerve the religious right. But... if you are able to move beyond that, it delivers humor on a platter that only Monty Python can deliver. Sit back and enjoy!
Excellent! One of the best works of Python. Very funny. The idea of Brian growing up at the same time and in the same town as Jesus is hysterical and of course the cast really plays it up. Wonderfully entertaining.
I really love this movie yeah sure i grew up with this movie so i wanted it for myself. the jokes are hilarous and love the song at the end of the movie its pretty much how most people feel about life.
Inspired silliness as the Monty Python crew poke fun at the human condition. Cast with the usual suspects, the film bounces along from gag to gag but manages to make some telling points. See it!
Monty Python humor is an acquired taste. Over the top silliness and bizarre animation. I had a copy of "The Holy Grail" that I watched with the kids (early teens). They wanted to see "Life of Brian" so I got a copy. It is still hilarious, but not for the kids. I had to turn it off. Definitely adult humor.
While I don't really like these kind of moives this one was pretty cute. It had some clever parts to it that most people might miss. It was definately better when I was younger though...
Definitely one of the funniest/most memorable Monty Python comedies, in my opinion. I bought this DVD as a gift for my brother and he really loves it. If you need your daily dose of "silly", Monty Python comedy is the way to go!
I bouhgt it for my husband because he loves silly movies like that and honestly was not all that excited about having to watch it. But, much to my surprise it was hilarious! A really good buy and worth every penny.
all great - DVD arrived on time and brand new as promised. Will definitely use them again. Not much more to say really, as I need to fill up 100 characters for this review to work ;-)
It's hard to decide whether this or "Monty Python's Holy Grail" is their best effort. Whereas "Grail" is way more familiar to the public, "Brian" is a masterwork on another level.
Although extremely irreverent - this movie has underneath a deep spiritual message. Really. The message is that true spirituality is not reached by worshiping another - it is not reached by following self aggandizing leaders and it certainly has nothing to do with condemming those who don't agree with your religious beliefs ie: "blasphemers" (one of the funniest bits in the movie). It comes from from finding the truth within yourself.
The parellel of the absurd political groups presented (the Palestine People's Front, Peoples Liberation Front and several others constantly bickering with each other ) to todays situation in the middle east in uncanny considering this movie is close to 30 years old.
