Monty Python and the Holy Grail (DVD, 2001, 2-Disc Special Edition)

This movie was a total hoot. It brought back a lot of memories from the first time I saw it. I also had just seen Spamalot and seeing it after seeing the play was absolutely wonderful! I even had my Mother-in-Law watch it (as she had also seen the play)and she absolutely loved it also! The added bonus features were wonderful too. Having the producers take you where the movie was shot and how they did it was just amazing. I didn't know that two people could play so many different parts in one movie! There budget was just an amazing price. I can't remember exactly what they said it was, but it was very low, and they were able to produce an exceptional movie with it. It just goes to show you what a little imagination and hard work, but loving what they were doing, can do to make a great movie. You don't need high tech devices and a lot of money to produce great movies! Too bad we don't have producers like them now. Definitely 2 thumbs up from me!

The first scripted movie from the British humor ambassadors Monty Python, this foray into absurd circumstances and outrageous animation locked in the American vision of what British comedy was all about... it may well have been the result of John Cleese's viewing of the Beatles' "A Hard Days' Night' that spurred him to seek out other comics to create this troupe. "Holy Grail' is an irreverent, definately non-historical account of King Arthurs' God-assigned task of locating the Holy Grail. This is one of those few movies that REQUIRE repeated viewing, as so many twist and quirks appear that had gone previously unnoticed by the average American. British humor at its' absolute BEST!

The dialogue in this movie makes it an absolute must have. I am not a fan of the sacreligious elements or occasional filthy word, but the rest of this movie will leave you in stitches. No collection is complete without it.

I received the "Monty Python and the Holy Grail (2001, DVD)" quickly and in excellant condition. It is a CLASSIC and I will pass it on to my kids, as a "CLASSIC" to hopefully be passed on to their kids.

My son and I went on a search to all the video stores in Northern Arizona, and there aren't many, and noone had MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL. So, we were tired and thought let's look on EBAY. The price was right, and it was new, a DVD that could be added to my son's collection of classics. When I am exhausted from searching for the particular thing, I always go to EBAY. But, now I go to EBAY first, and then there is no extra shopping for me.

Ironically, I purchased the DVD to use in my high school classroom. The film itself is a satire of Arthurian Legends, but it had 15-17 year olds laughing uncontrolably! This latest edition provided great features and background on the filming and story-writing process. I originally did not like the film having seen it when I was a teenager, but seeing again with the many additions has changed my mind!

Got to love Monty Python. This one of the best quotable movies that you will watch over and over again with your friends. "She turned me into a newt.... well i got better". Ah such goodness. All the special features are excellent too, keeps you entertained for days or even months of continual watching making sure you have all the lines right. If your a big dork then you should get this movie.

We went to Spamalot recently, and I wanted to get the Monty Python movies on DVD as a result. I have not found American comedies the least bit funny since I was young. They throw the jokes in your face, and they fall flat. British and even Canadian humor is so much better. Some of it IS in-your-face, but most of it requires you to pay close attention and LISTEN to the dialogue. This is a skill that many people don't have any more, and that's too bad.

I have seen many of these skits 20 times or more, and I still find things in them that I have missed up until the current viewing. That kind of depth is only present in the Simpsons and maybe South Park, and not in any American movies that have humans in them! Comedy writing is a dying art, unfortunately.

This is one of the top comedy classics of all time. It is very very silly and yet it is not for the ignorant for the writers were extremely knowledgable, of that there can be no doubt. The movie is very easy to relax and enjoy and is sure to take your mind away from the stresses......

The movie is great and you will enjoy it.

This movie shows how creative minds use movie magic and zany improvisions to make a cult classic on a very low budget. When they need a new sceen, they turn the camera around in the Scotish castle. Want to feature a Killer Rabit? Use a puppet! Horses for the Knights too expensive? Use coconut shells. Not a movie for everyone, but a must have for true ‘Pythoners’.

Gotta love this movie...the British are masters at humor! It is a perfect blend of silly yet intelligent humor. Would highly recommend this movie!

I remember this movie from when it came out long ago. Remember it as extremly funny. Now I thought it was tedious and juvenile.

If you like Monty Python this is the only movie you have to have. It is hilarious and is perfect to watch with the whole family.

Great stuff....ya gotta hand it to the blokes....a classic! I grew up on British humor when I was a child. My father was stationed in England. I agree that you have to get used to it...but it's funny as heck.

Are you kidding me?? One of the funniest movies ever made!! This movie led to my irrational fear of rabbits! It even made my wife laugh, and that's hard to do!!

If you're a dork like myself, you will absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie. Monty Python and the Holy Grail is THE movie to buy. With quotable lines and comedy to make you laugh at its stupidity, there is nothing that comes close to Monty Python's greatness. Just as a sidenote, where do you think my alias came from? MONTY PYTHON OF COURSE! This is a hilarious movie that will have you laughing from start to finish. Come on, what other movie has migrating coconuts, killer rabbits, or snotty frenchmen throwing cows? A must have for any serious movie collector!!!!

If you have never experienced Monty Python before, then this is where you should start. Mixing the lore of King Arthur with the usual antics found on their television show, Monty Python are at their prime with this film.

The film is essentially comprised of different sketches that follow the different characters around, a good chunk of which all take place in the same castle, although you'd never know without looking carefully. The film is shot exceptionally well for being made on such a low budget. All the characters are memorable, most importantly Sir Robin and Sir Bedevere, and their respective scenes. The Black Knight and the Knights of Ni are two of the funniest scenes I have ever witnessed on film. This is hands down my all time favorite movie in the comedy genre. The animation scenes that pop up in a few places throughout the movie are pointless but funny in their own right. And the French Taunter is to die for.

If you can dig English humor, this is the movie for you. If you can't, you should still check it out, most of my friends never liked English humor but still found this film hilarious. Pick up the special edition (the one I am reviewing), and check out the special features. It shows you where all the scenes were shot, and gives you a little background information on the film and some commentary by members of Monty Python. There is currently a Broadway production of the Holy Grail called "SPAMALOT" traveling around through major cities.

This is, perhaps, the funniest movie to ever grace our shores from Britain. Monty Python takes a sincere holy quest for the elusive Holy Grail and turns it into a laugh-a-minute farce. This was my coming of age movie when I saw it as a teenager and I still find it just as funny today. I sincerely recommend this movie for anyone who likes physical humor and the deep-thinking holy people who need to lighten up. Watch it three times to catch all the jokes, visual props, and actors portraying several different characters throughout the film. Neek!

My husband and his best friends are Monty Python fans. They watched his shows and they have seen all of his movies. My husband is 10 years older than I am, I had never heard of the show or the movies. He said the "Holy Grail" is the best of them all. I watched it and I have to agree it is the best. This movie is hillarius. I would tell anyone who wants to laugh a lot to watch it.

This production has been a favorite of mine for many years,but I have only watched it on TV and have never seen the whole movie all the way through. Its
like coming into a theatre in the middle of the movie.

Outrageous! Just as funny today as it was in the theater in '75 (not positive about the date). My kids watch it over and over, as well. And Knight of the Round table in Legos? A riot.

This cult classic will have your sides splitting and you'll be walking around citing lines for, well forever like everyone who has seen this movie. This movie has incredible content and vignettes that are hilarious. The social commentary throughout the movie is funny and a great satire on the medieval life and times.

The added content in the two-disc edition is also incredibly funny. A great amount of bonus material and all of it as funny as the movie itself. You will not be disappointed by adding this to your collection.
