Monique and the Mango Rains
If you are really interested in the plight of a mother in Mali Africa you must read this book. A true story of Monique written by peace corp volunteer, Kris Holloway, this story tells of the plight of all pregnant women, especially those who have trouble delivering live babies. I was recently in Mali for a month working at a Women & Children's Hospital. The women now have a place to come for real help with their pregnancies if they have transportation to get there. It is often too late for the babies by the time they arrive several days after labor begins. The story gave me a bird's eye view of what to expect in this 3rd world country. It is well written and moves right along. I had trouble putting it down.
