You get to play 2 different story modes where you take on the fight as Kira Yamato of the Earth Aliance or Athrun Zala of Z.A.F.T. (Zodiac Alliance of Freedom Treaty) Z.A.F.T are the forces of the Plants (Plants are space colonies)
The Earth forces consist of Naturals which are just like you and I, while Z.A.F.T consist of Coordinators, genetically advanced human beings capable of things you and I could only dream of doing. Both Pilots you can choose from are Coordinators and the plot follows that of the Anime Series Gundam Seed down to every detail!
There is also a mission mode where you take on smaller missions of Various pilots before, and throughout the war. These are very entertaining as they allow you to pilot many varieties of mobile suits and even mobile armors!
After this you can unlock Survival mode which is also very challenging.
This game will be a VERY fun ride for any Gundam fan and will surely entertain many people unfamiliar to the series. Although you may get lost in the story modes slightly if not a fan of the series but the game does supply you with many cinematics and cut-scenes from the show itself. And this show has a very complicated plot-line and its hard to cram all that into a game so trust me, they did an amazing job keeping u informed of everything.
There are many things to look forward to in this game that will keep you coming back for hours and hours of gameplay. There are an abundance of information to be soaked up in the galleries and the Item Shop will have many things locked up to make you work day and night for a long time to open everything. Your in for a thrill with this game...
And although you may be able to get past the storylines and mission modes within a week or two if your not hardcore at your controller, it will keep you coming back with the 50+ mobile suits/mobile armors and the different modes and unlockable features.
Another thing that makes the game VERY fun, is that when you unlock new mobile suits, you can use them in any story mode battle you have already won... which means that there are 15 missions as Kira and 15 more as Athrun allowing u to use 50+ mobile suits, you do the math, theres a lot of variations to this game!
Some Mech fans familiar with Armored Core style build-ur-own-bot games might be a little disappointed or frustrated, but you have to understand that this game stays true to a very popular and very complicated TV series, and keeps this game VERY authentic all the way through.
Presentation: 8/10
Very Authentic. True to the show. Easy to Navigate.
Graphics: 7/10
Sub-par graphics even for a late 04 release. Some frame issues. But great cut-scenes.
Sound: 8/10
Massive audio library. Sounds just like the show(But dubbed anime always lacks)
Gameplay: 8/10
Very simple and easy to get used to. Slight learning curve. Follows series to a tee. Many extras and unlockables.
Lasting Appeal: 7/10
You get to play it twice(15 missions each), but from opposite points of view. Many extra "bonus" levels and modes. Tons of unlockables. Also, once a Mobile Suit/Pilot is unlocked, you can play ANY mission with them.
Overall: 9/10
A great game for any Gundam fan. This game is very underrated. What it lacks in graphics and not modding your Mobile Suit, it makes up for in great gameplay and many features.
