How to detect and avoid a fake Mizuno MX 500 Driver

If you hate the scams and fraud on Ebay like I do please give a ''Yes'' vote to this review at the bottom of the page. Your vote will help others to see this guide and avoid getting ripped off.

I found several "Buy Now" deals for as little as $250.00. There were even people selling heads only for less than $200.00.

Most if not all of the auctions with heads only were from China or Hong Kong. The sellers had a mixture of feedback with 1 or 2 out of 10 negative due to fake driver. The sellers usually do not have a great number of feedbacks.

The selling method has changed somewhat lately with the fakes being sold by users registered in the USA but still heads only. The other problem now is there have been hundreds if not thousands of fake drivers sold to USA buyers. These buyers are now selling the fakes once they find out. Here is a list of what to look for and how to avoid being sold a fake.

1. Avoid auctions from China and Hong Kong.
2. Avoid any auction for driver head only.
3. Check sellers other items for sale. If they are selling only Mizuno drivers avoid this seller.
4. Ask seller to provide the serial number. If they do not respond avoid the seller. If they provide a serial number you can email Mizuno customer service and ask if the serial number is legit. Also ask if the serial number has been registered already.
5. Don't be fooled by pictures. The pictures on a fraud auction will not be the driver they are sending.
6. Avoid sellers that are new to Ebay or have really less than 100 + feedbacks selling golf equipment.
7. Avoid any auction for a driver listed in a non golf category. They use this tactic to avoid Ebay dumping the auction.
8. Avoid any 1 day auction with a "Buy Now".

A few of ways to detect the fakes are:

1. The composite top is actually not composite at all. It is paint in a weave pattern to look like a carbon fiber top.
2. No serial number on the hosel.
3. Thin spray painted finish instead of powder coated.

I avoided a fake Driver from a USA seller when I asked for the serial number. I had already won the auction. The seller sent me an email after the auction claiming the driver was damaged. I am sure it was someone trying to unload the mistake on me. Hopefully this may help someone from buying a fake driver as well.

I usually shoot in the 80's, 14 handicap, 54 years old. This is one of the best drivers I have ever hit. The only one close for me is the R7 425, but it is $100 more. Very solid feel, very accurate hitting fairways.

I demoed many dirvers before buying the MX 500, 10.5 with the upgraded ProLaunch shaft. It is one of a few drivers with a neutral clubface at address. I am at least 20 yard longer and in the midddle of the fairway most of the time. My game has greatly improved since buying this club. I highly recommend the MX 500.

  Mizuno MX 500 Driver

I am a 62 years old and carry a 10 handicap. I have hit virtually every driver out there and owned most of them. The MX-500 is the most solid driver I have ever hit. Disstance, feel and predictability are excellent. It sounds like a golf club should sound, not like hitting an empty beer can. I have an 11.5 degree MX 500 and just bid on a 10.5. To me, a driver should look good, sound good and perform well. The MX 500 has it all. This club is solid gold. My bag is quickly becoming all Mizuno with MX23 irons and CLK hybrids.

Most forgiving driver I've ever played. Sets up really nice and square at address. Not the longest driver out there but accuracy is much more important to me.

A year ago I was on travel and did not have my clubs. I rented a complete set of Mizunos. I was so impressed with the MX500 that I had to purchase one for myself from ebay. I paid $109 for a demo in absolutely beautiful condition.

The club will give you more distance and will put you on the fairway every time (I love technology)! Very forgiving is an understatement. I love this club. I have the reg Exsar 50 shaft.

The MX500 is the only Mizuno in my bag, but it is my favorite.

Wow!!! Took it to the range for the first time today and I am impressed. I would say it is the easiest and most forgiving driver I have hit to date. Not to mention that it is long. This driver makes me look better than I am. In the past when I do miss it is usually a high fade. I can really tell with the draw bias built into the club. The best thing is I only paid $185.00 new on ebay. It has the stock regular flex shaft. This one will be in my bag for a long time. Great Job Mizuno.

I tried 4 different Titleist 905Rs. Different shafts. I like the Mizuno better. I like the feel and sound and ball flight more than the Titleist. It is a great driver!

The best driver on the market. Combines responsiviness and forgiveness. Longer than any driver I have tried. One of the best kept secrets in the golf industry. The Mizuno graphite shaft is very true and performs better than any production shaft found in most OEM drivers.

Very nice club, but you need to have a good swing to use it consistantly. There are other clubs which are better for higher handicappers. If you have a solid swing and hit a draw then this is a great option for a great price, but if you push or fade the ball... stick with a more closed face driver.

Another great Mizuno Product!!!

I bought a demo with Fujikura Fit-On E 360 stiff here on ebay to replace my beloved Cleveland Launcher 460 wiht ProLaunch Blue Stiff. Although I consistantly hit 270+ yarders with launcher, I have been looking for straighter, more forgiving, workable and possibly longer driver because of launcher's relatively high side spin rate. I almost bought myself Nike SUMO SQ2 5900 but I could not pass sweet deal I found on ebay.

I did not have time to go to range so I took it straight to a rounding at Lost Canyon in So Cal. (Lost Canyon offers tricky and tight fairways. Very demanding indeed.) On the first tee, I swang.... i swang too hard and hit the ball on heel. yet the ball flew and rolled about 250 yards with little fade. AMAZING!!!!! With my launcher, i know where the ball would have ended up. Talking about forgivness, i have to give two thumbs up.

Throughout the round, I only lost one ball from crushing too much (which created fugly slice). no matter how i swing, balls will fly straight and long. Nice mid trajectory and roll. This is TRUE FIRE & FORGET DRIVER.

This club feels like player's club. You get immediate feedback whether you hit it well or not. I need to get used to its peculiar muted sound but I
would take that all day long.

Lastly, I must talk about the shaft, Fujikura Fit-On E 360 Stiff. At first, it gives you rock-hard stiff feeling. On swing, you feel the well-suited connection to your body.

If you are looking for above-average quality driver but do not wanna pay premium price, this is it. If you are really serious player, I strongly recommend shaft swapping.

  long and low spin

I bought this club to replace my Cleveland Launcher. The Launcher was giving me high spin, resulting in a very high trajectory and loss of distance. Both the MX 500 (Exsar regular shaft)and the Launcher (Fujikura stiff shaft) are 10.5 degree. I'm satisified with the results: lower launch angle and on average 10 -15 extra yards.

I got this Mizuno MX 500 Driver never used and I love it. I have always been a Mizuno fan and I hit the club at a Mizuno Demo day and just knew I had to find one. I used to hit the Cleveland Launcher and liked it, but the Mizuno club has a nice set up and is easy to swing.

The reviews that I read really raved about this club. I purched it new and for a really good price concidering that it is no longer being made. I have to say that it seems to be a high quality club, but does not perform nearly as well as the Mizuno irons that I have. For the money it is simply a 460cc driver as common as anything you can purchase. I am not too disapointed since I only gave $55.00 For a new two or three year old club. If I had to give the new model retail of $299.00 I would be too upset to type.

Great Club. Already hit some balls, Wonderful Product.
Review created: 06/24/09

Love the clean look to this club. I have already been to the driving range withit, wonderful. Nice and straight shots, just like the sellersaid. I was a Lynx golf club fan for along time..30 yrs. This club is much better and am going to change and look for some more Mizuno clubs. Iwill buy some fairway woods in the future, and some irons. I just like the look of the club and thought I would give it a try. So far so good.

  Makes it look simple.

I have always been a long ball hitter, 285 to 320 and have played Pings for more years than I care to admit, recently went to Nicklaus for several years and enjoyed the look and feel of that club and the length but once I grew up a bit and decided to go for more control I tried the Mizuno. I have a mixed set of Mizuno irons, MP 60 4-7, hybrid 3 and MP 67 blades 8-pw and then all Mizuno Wedges so I know what kind of equipment they make. The club lets you know where you are hitting it on the face, lets you get away with a few bad ones and more important, lets you find a groove of great confidence to repeat that swing over and over. I find it longer than I suspected, great looking and responsive and a great price here on ebay. Mine is a 10.5 with stock Exsar Stiff shaft, I will buy another in 9.5 for more open courses and a few more yards...hee,hee, you can never hit it too far.

  Mizuno Quality but Fitting Needed
Review created: 05/27/08
by:

I purchased a Mizuno MX-500 Driver with 11.5 loft and a regular shaft. I hit it today for the first time and had mixed results. My first drive traveled 260 yards with very little effort, and two other drives produced similar results. However, the club felt whippy, and the other three drives on the front nine were hard-to-control duck hooks. I think the shaft is very flexible for a regular, so I think I will get the club reshafted, either to a different regular flex or to a stiff flex.

Nevertheless, the good shots felt pure and effortless. I like the feeling of the clubhead as it swings through the ball, and the sound is not offensive. (I hate the sound of the latest Adams and TaylorMade models, for instance.) I swing with a slight draw, and this club was easy to draw. It sets up nicely at address with no obvious draw bias, and the Mizuno "M" on the top of the clubhead makes it easy to aim at the ball.

If I had to complain about anything, it would be the stock shaft on the club. As I mentioned before, it feels whippy; it doesn't feel like any regular shaft that I have had on any of my previous drivers. All in all, I would recommend this older model Mizuno driver. Although it does not have any of the new movable weight or removable shaft technology on other drivers, it's enough driver for anyone looking for a great driver that can be purchased for a fraction of the price of a brand-new 2008 driver.
