      Mizuno MP Wedges

I am 65 years old and have currently an 8.9 handicap index. I have tried many wedges over the past 50 years. However, the Mizuno MP Series wedges were the first wedges with the new square grooves I had tried. They are simply the best wedges I have played for shots under 80 yards (my clubhead speed has dropped). I currently have a 60 degree and a 56 degree in my bag. They both allow me to aggressively hit down on running pitch and chip shots more than ever before because I know the ball is going to come up with some spin on it and that will let me hit the ball to the putting surface and have a little check-up action before it releases and runs out. This is a great help on fast greens and when pitching to elevated greens. They both are also the best wedges I have ever played from the sand. Once again they cut through the sand well and provide a very helpful level of spin on most shots. Their clubface seems to wear rather quickly. I have used a groove tool to keep the grooves sharp. I bought the 56 degree model used and I am now considering investing in a new 56 degree club because of the significant wear accumulating on the face. I liked them so much that I bought a 51 degree model. This one did not work out so well for me. It was the same length as the 56 degree club and I did not get the distance I wanted from the 51 degree set up. The feel and spin were both great on the 51 degree club but I wanted to hit it further. So I had it bent to a little over 50 degrees, added an inch to the shaft, and put a Golf Pride grip on it. This made the club a little too heavy for me and I didn't gain enough yardage from the changes. I think the club will be fine for a younger, stronger person but I'm just not that strong. The feel was altered too. I liked the original feel better. The club was put back up for sale on E-Bay with all the changes described so I hope a younger, stronger person bought it and will get a lot out of it. These are great wedges and I highly recommend them. Good luck, Scott.
