I have been in search of a set of transition clubs from game improvement to a forged club. I have always heard that Mizuno makes the best forged clubs in golf. My local golf pro recommended that I try this set because of the muscle cavity back that provides some forgiveness. I got fitted by Mizuno and took the plunge. After several sessions on the range I decided to take this set to my home course. The first few rounds had mixed results and I went back to the fitter. He was very helpful and told me that the MP 57 sweet spot is a little above center face toward the heel of the club. After a few swing adjustments I was hitting the clubs better but came to the realization that this was too much club for my game.
Review:
This club plays a lot like a blade and the club head is light compared to the game improvement clubs I had used prior. The topline is thin and the cavity back provides very little play on mishits. As stated before the sweet spot was not in an ideal spot for my swing and caused more than usual struggles with players irons. With that said I would have to say that I have now experienced a true fitting and the Mizuno rep was top notch. As for the feel of the clubs I also know the butter feel everyone raves about in their reviews of forged irons. On the few pure shots I had with these clubs it was simply amazing and is probably why I stuck with these clubs longer than I should have. I can only speak from my experience so I would recommend this set of clubs for low handicaps (8 or lower).
