  Mizuno Fli-Hi CLK Hybrids

I had purchased some Mizuno wedges and was very impressed with the quality of the club so I tried two Fli-Hi CLK fairway hybrids. I am 65 years old and have been trying to convert from low profile fairway metals to hybrids for the past two years. I have not found any hybrids that allow me to hit the ball as high and as far as my fairway metals. However, the 23 degree Fli-Hi I bought came closer than any other to date. My club head speed is not what I would like it to be anymore but the hybrids are much better off the tee and out of the rough than the low profile fairway metals. The 23 degree Fli-Hi is still in my bag. I hit it between 156 and 164 yards and it has replaced the 27 degree Orlimar Tri-Metal I have used for years for those distances. I have even sold the two 27 degree Tri-Metals I had. I was so pleased with the Fli-Hi that I tried a 20 degree model. This experiment was not a success. I hit my 23 and 21 degree Orlimar Tri-Metals much higher and farther and more consistently than I could hit the 20 degree Fli-Hi from anywhere but the rough. The 20 degree Fli-Hi was put back up for sale on E-Bay. When I am in light rough and the distance suits my low profile 23 and 21 degree Orlimars I now use my 23 degree Fli-Hi and get satisfactory results. The Tri-Metals tend to go under balls in the rough. If I were younger and had a higher swing speed I think the Mizuno hybrids would all be very good clubs for me. My handicap index right now is 8.9. I pick my clubs very carefully. Good luck. Scott.

Great choice for long iron replacement

This is a fantastic long iron replacement. If you have any issues hitting your long irons consistently well, this is absolutely the route to go for long consistent shot making.

Buy the new series because it is FAR superior to the original.
While the new series, distance wise, is longer than the original, it is not as long as Cobra Baffler or Cleveland HiBore. It is however easier to control both distance and direction than with the Baffler and HiBore. I have tried every hybrid out there and these are the best for easy to hit and straight. I would say they are like a Sonartec, but much more forgiving.

  Mizuno FliHi CLK Hybrid
Review created: 09/09/07

I had previously bought a Mizuno Fli - Hi twenty-one degree iron style
hybrid, and while I have made some really nice shots with the club, find
almost as dificult to hit as a regular iron. I decided to try the CLK, to
compliment the first club and to see what differences there may be in performance. My CLK is seventeen degrees - would have liked twenty-one...
I don't know if this has anything to do with the problems I have getting
the ball airborne with the club. Also, I find the club not that easy to hit
well. Mishits tend to be unforgiving with regard to directional stability.

  Mizuno Fli-Hi CLK Hybrid 17*, 20*, 23* graphite regular

61-year-old male, 11 handicap, small stature, straight hitter.
Got these to replace 5 wood and long irons. Great clubs! Had Hogan CFTs with steel shafts but these are much better. Easy to hit with penetrating ball flight. Some people may not like the soft feel and quiet sound at impact, but I'll take a strong ball flight and stopping power from >170 yards anytime.

WATCH OUT FOR DIFFERENCE between Fli-Hi CLK and CLK Fli-Hi. The first is the older style with a graphite composite head (all metal sole in photos, holographic checkerboard pattern on top of head). These are the great clubs. I tried the newer second one with a titanium head (blue and white sole in photos) but could not hit the ball nearly as well. I attribute it to a different shaft and head balance. Makes no sense to me why Mizuno chose to replace the great original with a club that is harder to hit. Anyway, the FLI-HI CLK clubs are keepers. The CLK FLI-HI is not for me.

Took this 17 degree Mizuno to a driving range and really hit the ball flush. I needed a club between my 3 iron and 3 fairway wood.

This Mizuno Fli-Hi CLK Fairway Wood Golf Club was bought for my husband. It is a hybrid club similar to a 4 iron. He says he gets 10 more yards then he gets from his 4 iron and it is easy to hit. He has two, one that is 17 degrees and one that is 23 degrees. He loves both of them.

Mizuno Fli-Hi CLK 17* Hybrid Exsar Stiff
Review created: 07/21/08

I'm an 11.4 HDCP and already have the 20* and 23* FLI-HI CLK hybrids from Mizuno. My driver swing speed is 98 mph according to the SwingView monitor at Los Lagos GC in San Jose, CA. My first swing at the range today resulted in a straight carry of 210 yards with about 20 yards of roll-out beyond the visible portion of the range. 2nd and 3rd swings had a 5-yard fade but same carry distance just beyond the 210 yard flag. I have much more confidence in these Mizuno hybrids than my Titleist 904F fairway woods. The trajectory with the Exsar stiff graphite shaft is medium and bores through the wind. The Exsar regular graphite shaft has a higher trajectory and tends to balloon so I just play it back in my stance. It is easy to fade or draw the Mizuno Fli-Hi CLK hybrid, but because of their game-improvement design you need to exaggerate the fade setup. These hybrids are a perfect complement to my Mizuno MX-900 irons (Exsar regular graphite shaft).

  Workability
Review created: 06/10/08

It is very easy to work with. I bought the Mizuno Fli-Hi 17* about 1 month ago and played 3 rounds. I used it about 5 times most in rough. The distance I could hit was wonderful, about 230 yrds. I would recommend to buy this hybrid.

I own two other Mizuno Hybrid clubs . . . 20 and 23 degree loft. This 17 degree loft hybrid completes my needs for good alternatives to long irons.

I had difficulties playing with #3 iron club. I decided to replace the #3 iron club to 20 degree hybrid fairway club. But I am not use #3 iron so often so I bought used Mizuno Fli-Hi CLK hybrid Fairway Wood Golf club. This club is working fine with me even though I did not play many round with this club. I'd recommend the hybrid fairway wood golf club to those who have ploblems playing with long iron clubs especially with #3 iron club.

  Hybrids vs Irons
Review created: 09/19/07
by:

Hybrids are so much easier to hit and recieve positive results than long irons. This is especially true hitting from light rough. A slight mishit with a hybrid will still give much more positive results than an iron. I bought the Mizuno hybrid because it matches my iron set of Mizuno's which I really like. I bid on this item on E-Bay and got it for a great price. No matter your preference of brands, the hybrids are great replacement for long irons. That applies to low, mid, or high handicap golfers. Try 'em and you will love 'em.
