The Mix-Up by Beastie Boys (CD, Jun-2007, Capitol/EMI Records)

I am a long time Beastie Boys fan but this is something that is less mainstream that what they usually do. Just as the title suggests, it is instrumental tracks of them mixing interesting songs and beats together. If you do not care for music without voices, you will not like this. Otherwise, you will love it! The cool thing is that I have started to notice snippets of certain tracks being used in the media, like NPR.

What a surprise to find this great release on the shelves of my local record store. I always buy the Beastie Boys CD's no matter what, and this was perfect for my day ahead. This CD finds the kings of white boy raps getting back to their musical roots as real playing musicians. Here you will find Funk, Rock, Jazz and a touch of Dub. This is an instrumental album with no lyrics, quite a departure for these verbose angloes.

It's a great instrumental album by a genuinely eclectic trio. I saw the Beastie Boys live in concert last fall (a short while after this album was released) and it prompted me to buy the songs that I had heard. I figured if it sounded that good live, it must be pretty good as a CD. If you are a fan of these guys, you should add this one to your collection. Even though mainstream radio won't eat it up like "License to Ill" or "Paul's Boutique", it's a must-have for any true fan.

This is the most creative, up-beat, versatile instrumental album that i have ever enjoyed. it will take your mind to jupiter and back with-in 7 minutes
