Incredible

This is one of the best stories written of the Legend of King Arthur. It is written from a female perspective. The female characters take on leading roles in the book and the men are portrayed as secondary characters. It is the story of the women within the legend of King Arthur.
The book portrays the two main female characters as strong women who are conflicted by their given roles in society. Morgaine (aka Morgan Le Faye) is priestess driven by love for her brother and her destiny to be high priestess of Avalon. Gwenhwyfar is portrayed as a woman seeking comfort, security, and autonomy to love who she wants. She suffers from depression and phobias. She is torn between her love for Arthur and Lancelot.
This book also illustrates the battle between Christianity and Paganism-politically and individually Morgaine is a pagan and is seen as the “old ways” along with Merlin. Gwenhwyfar is a Christian and tries to convert Arthur to a Christian. Arthur struggles with the two religions.
Morgaine and Gwenhwyfar are the complete opposites of each other. Tensions occur between the two in the book. Their views on religion and love for Arthur seem to cause the most of the conflicts.
In the traditional tale of King Arthur these two women are portrayed in negative images. Morgaine as an evil enchantress and Gwenhwyfar as a seducer/adulteress. This book is written with a refreshing view behind the King Arthur Legend. It is the real truth behind the tale/legend.
