  Missile Command (Atari 2600)
Review created: 04/05/07

I have had my atari system for about 23 years and it still works great. I dont get to play as often as I use to but its still fun. I like to get games when I can and its a bonus when an old game comes with the instruction book. Its not too hard to figure out most games but a book always helps.

Pros:
Gloomy and captures that old sense of "nuclear fear" quite well

Cons:
Repetitive

Raise your hand if you remember the 1980s. Come on, now. Don't be ashamed. Remember the 1980s? That's right. The decade in which computers became as acceptable as any other appliance. The decade in which Mr. T became a household name. And, in the early part of the decade, the Atari 2600 ruled the roost. Now, to be fair, the Atari 2600 became the system of choice in the late 1970s. However, what video game better summed up the attitude of the early 1980s than Missile Command? After all, folks in the early 1980s were still afraid of getting blown to pieces by nuclear missiles, and Missile...

Pros:
it's a great game

Cons:
a bit simplistic for a few of the new generation kiddies.

Ok I haven't really played Missile command to much in till I picked up the Atari Anthology for the PS2. It has both the arcade and the home version of the game. The game is pretty fun since it came from the pre video game crash of the 80's. Story. Well it finally happen the Russian has fired there nukes at us and it looks like where going to be burned to crisps. Our only hope is you operating an anti missile battery to stop the nukes from coming in and destroying the cities. If you fail then it will be nuclear Armageddon which will wipe out most of the human race, the rest will be whipped out.

Cold War allegory or simple sci-fi action?

Pros:
Fast-paced; easy to learn; always a challenge; cool sounds and colors; addictive.

Cons:
Controls are either too tight or too slippery and take much practice to master.

We all know what makes a video game good, but is it possible they appeal to us on a subconscious level? Some say Asteroids isn t so much about the fun of blasting rocks to smithereens, but about a basic human need to restore order to chaos. In the case of Missile Command, it s a game whose premise played to our fear of the Cold War at the time of its release. It s not just entertainment, it s instilling confidence in the player that the enemy can be defeated. Or maybe it s just a classic arcade game that utilizes fast action and a science fiction theme, who knows? PRESS FIRE TO START This...
