"Scream a.k.a Itchin'" won the 2003 Grammy Awards for Female Rap Solo Performance. This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. SO ADDICTIVE finds Missy Elliott proving herself a woman to be reckoned with, particularly plainspoken in carnal matters. On "Dog in Heat," where she's joined by Method Man and Redman, Elliott delivers a forceful but low-key rap over little more than funky bass and drums, striking an arch-sexiness-plus-groovy-minimalism approach reminiscent of mid-period Prince. "One Minute Man" finds the fiesty femme issuing a sexual challenge over a track whose visceral sensuality provides incentive enough to enter into the gambit. Nevertheless, the rapper proves herself to be more than a sexual cartoon by varying her lyrical and thematic approach. On the percolating "Old School Joint," for example, Missy takes a conventional relationship stance worthy of the song's title, advising her suitor that it's best to "get to know each other" and be friends before becoming lovers. It's this juxtaposition of mindsets that keeps SO ADDICTIVE interesting. On the sonic side, the stop-time sample around which "Step Off" is built bears a distinct Latin flavor, and the infectious, propulsive rhythms of "Whatcha Gon' Do" bear witness to producer Timbaland's knack for nailing a distinctive, memorable sound with a minimum of fuss. Reviews I like Missy Elliott as an artist and I respect her work but particularly I'm in love with Track 8 (Take Away). My CD was lost and this one was a good price. Cons: Album doesn't quite feel as complete as it could. What can I say, the Timbomania of the past near-year or so's compelled me to go back and check out some of dude's earlier work. And so far the results've been pretty nice. The more I hear, the more I think he might be easily one of the most consistently great producers in hip hop. Granted I got plenty more diggin' to do, but I've yet to hear a bad Timbaland-helmed album. A phenomenal talent and driving force in the hip-hop/R Review ID: 10000000000502362 Review created: 05/20/04 by: insomniac1587 -- a member of Epinions Pros: production, guest spots, best album of her career Cons: zero lyrical substance, interludes, inconsistent, cheesy and wack at times Ah, Missy Elliot. Everyone who follows music closely has an opinion over the ever-shrinking Virginian, whether it be good or bad. She's one of those artists that you really can't feel indifferent toward- you either like her or despise her. Starting with her solo debut in 1997, she has ruled the femcee world except when some girl named Lauryn something-or-other came out. Whatever happened to her, eh? (sarcasm) Anyway, Elliot makes serious rap fans a bit uneasy due to her obvious lenience on stylish production, almost nonstop (mostly simple) punchlines and party songs rather than mixing that... Missy Elliott Returns to the Hip/Hop scene with her new release, "Miss E So Addictive". Proving she is an innovator in her field, the new album overcomes any preconceived notions about current Hip Hop music. According to her press release, Missy had stopped listening to the radio before going into the studio so she could go in with some fresh, unique ideas. Apparently it worked as it fuses pop, hip hop and modern R Review ID: 10000000000502368 Review created: 01/03/02 by: prestonicko -- a member of Epinions Pros: Great lyrics and variety of fast-paced songs Cons: The ballads are not her strongest feature Missy Elliot has been a force in music for many years now. Up until the past five or six years, Missy worked behind the scenes, writing songs and producing albums for other artists and singers. That all changed with the release of her first album "Supa Dupa Fly" in 1997 which featured Missy singing her own songs on an album for the first time. This album, her third, features Missy at the top of her game. With several guests spots by artists like Ludacris and Ginuwine, Missy makes an overall enjoyable album to listen to and a well-composed album musically. Songs like "One Minute Man", "Lick...
