A must play and a unique perspective on the FPS genre

Graphics: Primary yet Contemporary 8/10
Sound: Great – 8/10
Gameplay: Great – 8/10
Replay Value – Good (for a single player only game) 8/10
Overall – 8/10

Graphics: Primary yet Contemporary 8/10
The graphics go right along with the story – a future utopia that is perfect on the surface, and vibrant in life, is cracking from within. The use of whites and primary colors, along with the blur effects, really puts you in the shoes as a runner. The environments are basic, however, create the feel of what Mirror’s Edge is.

Sound: Great – 8/10
The footsteps and the use of surfaces is minor, but without this detail to sound, it would be impossible to jump. It tells you subconsciously that you are the one running and sets off a timer in your head to better play this game.

The music, techno in nature, is hypnotic and really sets the stage for what you are dealing with. Though it can be annoying (especially when trying a part MULTIPLE times), it heightens anxiety and gameplay.

Gameplay: Great – 8/10
Smooth animations, huge world design, and a fresh and unique perspective on the first person shooter (FPS) genre. The story melds with this futuristic run, and was a game that I felt that I couldn’t put down (Portal style).

Replay Value – Good (for a single player only game) 8/10
For a single player adventure, this games time runs, and speed runs, you get hooked on how can you shave seconds off your time.

Overall – Fun new experience 8/10
This game is short, so be prepared, and the main story, set on normal, only took about 6-7 hours to complete without weapon use (heightened difficulty). That being said, the time trial modes and the set challenges will keep you playing this single player game.

A heightened sensory game, and that can revolve on not using a gun, this game is a breath of fresh air, and makes excellent strides in its’ uniqueness, however, fails to reach the pinnacle it could be.

This game has really made some steps when it comes to experience of a video game. This game made me really think about how all FPSs are just that, shooters. This one is much more, it made me want to ignore the use of guns and try nothing but peaceful tactics. A first for many, I'm sure. The themes in this game show some real quality, but its too good to be true, the themes in the story are not nearly as good. The story is slow and not really what makes the game. It is really corny and not in a good way, and almost forced into the game, which is reasonable because a lot of time was actually put into the gameplay portion, making the story not matter much. What you'll love though is the time trials because there really is no need to replay the story, but you'll love replaying all of the parkour and explore the city.

  Fun and Original Game

Mirror's Edge is a First Person Game with a twist. It cannot be called a first person shooter because you don't do much shooting. You do have the posibility of gunplay but the main goal is to navigate through a city by running, jumping and hanging off buildings. I personally like the First person point-of-view because it is the most immersive form of game-play. I understand that it has its limitations, but in this game it is pulled off perfectly. You can feel yourself running thorugh the roof tops to the point of getting vertigo and let me tell you, one misstep when you're jumping from one roof to another resultign in a fall can be shocking when you're really into the game (I love the squishing sound at the end).

The graphics are great, the gameplay is great. If you find first person awkward, the game does a lot to help. But in a way that feels vey organic. You can press one of the buttons and your character will automatically look the way she has to go. This is a great way to lead you without having to have a big glowing arrow or something. The other thing the game does to help is to "paint" the objects that will help you move along the environment a bright red. This does not mean you don't have to figure out exactly how to get to these objects. But in general it works to make this a fast-paced game were you don't get stuck too often. Although there are frustrating moments where you're not exactly sure how to get to the next step and you're getting shot at. This can result in dying and having to play that little bit over and over again. Although that hasn't lasted too long for me.

The Story is interesting and it is told through animated cut scened. Very stylish and simple animation, the kind of thing you could od in Flash. Its good, but I wonder if it couldn't just be done in-game. The animation in the game is so much different (very realistic) that the animation seems an anachronism.

All in all this is a great game and I recommned it to anybody.

game play is different it actually fun. but not much depth in the game, pretty much straight forward game play, get from point A to point B.
cut scene are not impressive. basically a simple game.
btw relatively short game and this game gets me nausea after an hr of play.
3 stars out of 5.

Great new FPV game to change the future

This game is awesome - i just started playing and was hooked right out the box. Not much of a combat game - you will lose most fights if you try to treat this as a shooter. I find it even more exciting to go around enemies then to fight up and up. The runner vision is great once you set yourself at a pace you dont want to stop. The time trials also add some replay value as you compete with players around the world. I heard game was short though but i just started playing...

Im a big FPS fan and I prefer this over COD:W@W (which i owned and sold shortly after)

One of the most engaging games ever made. It is a very fun game to play with, say, a floor full of college guys watching you. The only thing they said is that its all in 1st person and it would be cool to see the things you were doing (parkour = wall running, sliding, etc.). I thought it made the game feel very realistic.

  Mirror's Edge (PS3)

A truly ground breaking game. The human eye visual perspectives are more accurate than any other first person game currently in production; and the futuristic utopia city is amazing. While the game may seem too easy and repetitive for some; I found the game to be extremely immersive and involving. A definite fun game for those who like fast moving; cat and mouse chase sequences like in the movies. I cannot wait for the upcoming sequel.

  Mirror's Edge (Playstation 3)
Review created: 10/26/09

Love the graphics
Love the first person running, jumping, sliding game concept.

In practice game has a flawed model. I still enjoy it but get frustrated I tire of it quickly and can only enjoy it in bursts.

The game forces the player to figure out paths by trial and error making you play large portions of an escape over and over till you find a way through.

It would be more imersive and better if there were LOTS of ways through or more ability to evade as you expored to find the way through or better recon to determine the best way through. Like exploratory walk throughs for a delivery where you mapped out the posabilities.

Trial and error gets boring and frustrating...

  Different and dinamic
Review created: 09/18/09
by:

When I downloaded the demo I was astonished by the dinamic of the game. It was different from what I'd played before. The feeling when you have to run away from the cops, jump from roof top to roof top. It was great.
Now that I have it, I could taste a little more than a demo version and despite you spend more time running away than fighting, it is a great first person game.
Recommend!

does all the little things wrong
Review created: 08/26/09
by:

There are flashes of brilliance and when the game clicks it is amazing. Sadly, EA DICE seemed like they did all the little things wrong in this game. That said, I got it for under $20 dollars so I can't complain at that price. I don't want to get into "what I would do to make it better" but there is a long list of simple things that could have been done. Dying/Re-spawning takes way too long. It takes all the flow out of the game. Running while getting shot at is dumb. The chase scene was the best sequence as you feel pulled rather than pushed into running. Combat is at best easy and a non-factor and at worst a source of huge irritation. Balance bars are dumb, or at least I didn't much like them. I didn't like the controls either. Wall runs feel a bit odd and wall turn jumps even moreso. Doable, but every time I had to do one I felt like I had to relearn the system. It's odd because when you jump onto a wall you automatically go into a wall stand mode. B/c you are in the 1st person, it's difficult to get a sense of landing on that wall.

If you can get it for $10, it's a easy buy.
At under $20, it's a reasonable one.
Anything above that is a waste.

BTW, I bought the DLC ($10) and it's a reasonable buy as well. Might be something you consider as the content is fairly short as far as Single Player goes. Re-doing levels for racing overall is much better. Especially once you kow what to do.

I had this game before and sold it, but I bought it again because I missed it.
The gameplay is fun and levels can be done over and over again in different ways and difficulty levels without killing anyone. The graphics are very unique. Once you start, you cant stop. I love this game and this time will keep it. A absolute must!

  Refreshing Game

Mirror's edge makes you change the way you think about FPS. It's not like Resident Evil 4 that merely seeks place under a FPS roof, it expands the FPS concept to a totally new level.
