This young woman can wail. This album displays her talents beautifully. She is so often compared to Janis Joplin which, in my opinion, detracts from Joss Stone's unique talent. There are some similarities; primarily both of them can rock and have powerful pipes. Unless she stops making music, Joss is destined to become one of the great singers of our time. This recording is the beginning and anyone who loves the blues or female voices should have this CD in their collection.

Joss Stone "Mind, Body and Soul"

Hello Blues fans. Let me tell you a little bit about our "blue eyed" soul sister who just happens to look like Brittany Spears except better. I first saw Joss Stone on "Austin City Limits" recently where she performed alot of the cuts off of her "Mind, Body and Soul" album.
If I had to describe Joss to someone who has yet to hear her and her music I'd say that you take the vocal sound of Janis Joplin, the soul of Aretha Franklin packed in a body and frame of Brittany Spears and that's just for openers.
I'm a blues fan and have cut my teeth listening to the likes of B.B.King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughn and more. Blues is blues when it comes to these standard blues musicians. I'm not knockin' their music but you know something about where the music will take you.
Not with Joss Stone Blues. You don't have the usual 3 chord progression in her music in which she has a hand in writing most of her songs. In fact, in Joss's blues you have no 3 chord progression at all. I would call her music "innovative blues". It's different, it's fresh and she presents it in a wonderful package.
Her opening song on this cd is "Right to be Wrong" in which she sounds somewhat assertive in her lyrics. She takes the position that she might be wrong with her perspective but as an individual, she has the right to take whatever position she decides, even if it is wrong.
Also on this CD is "Don't Cha Wanna Ride" in which she takes a blues riff from the 1960's and adds her lyrics which produce a sweet, innovative sound to a soul standard.
I'd recommend this Joss Stone album to any blues fan who might appreciate a fresh perspective to the blues genre. Yes she sounds somewhat like Janis, presented with the soul of Aretha all in one beautiful package. Enjoy the fresh sound from an innovative writer and singer, Joss Stone.

A friend of mine had one of Joss's songs set as her profile song on MySpace. I loved what I heard to I immediately went to half.com and purchased it! Half.com spoils me. Not only can I usually find everything I want, but it's at a fraction of the price even including the shipping! When I received it, I loved it. Every song had the same blusey theme, but a different message! Her voice is real and therefore you feel you are getting her raw feelings which is what I love about an artist.

She is a very talented singer who gives you a sense of the neo soul sound like Angie Stone mixed with some of the rawness of a Janis Joplin

Not her best album. Lacks that edge she got on her latest CD. But she has a nice set of pipes. The production is really ordinary.

Joss Stone - Mind Body & Soul

Joss Stone is very unoriginal, and her voice bored me to tears. I actually could not listen to the whole, I had to turn it off. I could not stand to her her sing one more "OOH" or "AHH" I could not even tell of she could carry a tune, she sings so "choppy". Even at the bargain basement price of $7.00, it was too much to spend on this CD. I had high hopes for an English, White girl, with soul, but found none on this CD!

Joss Stone: Her Soul Is Slowly Catching Up To Her Mind & Body
Review created: 09/25/04
by: speeddemon531-- a member of Epinions and Advisor in Music

Pros:
The girl can sing. And "Less is More" is the hotness.

Cons:
Do not operate machinery when parts of this album are playing. May cause drowsiness.

You can definitely say that Joss Stone is an anomaly. How many 17 year old British girls would have the balls to tackle an Aretha song? Her debut EP, "The Soul Sessions" was a left-field success, selling 3/4 of a million copies with no radio play. The young starlet was backed by a who's who of soul music-Angie Stone, Betty Wright and the ubiquitous ?uestlove were all present, but while Stone's voice was certainly supple enough to support these renditions of classic soul tunes, you couldn't help thinking there was a little something missing... ...Namely that experience and "realness" that...

Joss Stone s drivin : Don t cha wanna ride?
Review created: 11/07/04
by: Monnie1976-- a member of Epinions and Top Reviewer in Music

Pros:
Great voice doing something different, some excellent songs

Cons:
A few songs sound alike, the hidden track is personal but a little overwrought

Joss Stone just might have been one of the most surprising artists in 2003. While her other good-looking, blonde hair blue eye contemporaries were lining up to fall in their perspective niches or categories Joss Stone bucked the sorting system and came out with her ambitious debut aptly titled The Soul Sessions. Of course, she wouldn t be the first white adolescent to attempt a little soul but she is probably one of the first to do it this effectively. This debut covered with pizzazz everyone from The White Stripes to The Isley Brothers and she did justice almost everytime. She was schooled...

This Stone Floats To The Heavens on a Wing, a Prayer and a Voice
Review created: 06/30/05
by: insomniac1587 -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
finally co-writes, awesomely mature vocals, gorgeous production, some real soul

Cons:
long winded, could turn off fans of her debut, not much lyrical substance

Despite what some people say to the contrary, teenagers don t get any respect in most fields one can think of. Either they re considered to be poor decision makers, they re told they don t have enough life experience to know about anything or they re completely ignored and not given much of a second thought. No matter if they have more talent than people older than they are, they still seem to get some unnecessary criticism. Joss Stone is out to prove herself to those type of critical people. At the tender age of 18, Stone has released a covers record of old soul ballads and this rousing...

You Had Me, But You Lose Me In Places Too
Review created: 06/09/05
by: dbcint -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Right To Be Wrong, You Had Me, a couple of other great tracks.

Cons:
A little unbalanced. Not a lot of replayability. More could be done with this voice.

This is the first entry into my Broken Format W/O. This review will be written in the form of a letter to the artist. Dear Ms Stone, Firstly, my apologies. When you first came onto the music scene in early 2003 with your debut album The Soul Sessions, I didn t think you d last. I quickly passed you off as yet another teen star who would have a hit song or two, sell a few million records, then disappear again. I judged you before I d given you a chance. I was wrong to do that, but to be perfectly frank, you didn t really impress me with Fell In Love With A Boy. It was a nice song and all, it...
