I put a post in want it now and could not have been more specific about what I wanted. I kept repeating I wanted the COLORIZED version of the film and have said it until I was blue in the face. It was advertised on the ebay listings as being in color, and after exchanging 2 emails with the seller to confirm it, they STILL sent me a black and white version with B&W clearly printed on the DVD case. They said I was mean and they were trying to correct the problem. Thing is, after confirming, re-confirming and re-re-confirming, there should NOT have been a "problem" in the first place. That was the purpose of doing my homework and asking questions before bidding. They offered a refund but rather than having to exchange emails with them for the next 6 months I just chalked it up as a loss.

Many credit Michael Curtiz's "Casablanca" as his masterpiece (as they should) but "Mildred Pierce" comes pretty close as the runner up along with "Yankee Doodle Dandy." A great film noir about a hardworking mother who spoils her daughter rotten and unintentionally creates a monster out of her, Joan Crawford does a stupendous job playing the hard working mom. The film garnered an Academy Award for Best Actress and a nomination for best picture. A great film. Highly recommend it!!!

Suspenseful, intelligent film. Joan Crawford is just amazing. Her character range is compelling and it is no surprise that she won a Oscar award for her performance. I was very impressed.

  Great Movie!
Review created: 10/27/08

I really enjoyed this movie. I want to start watching older movies and heard about this one. This is really good. I have not been very impressed with older movies, but this movie was well worth my time. I would recommend to anyone. This really is classic Joan Crawford. I believe that most age groups would enjoy it.

Mildred Pierce (Joan Crawford), becomes a successful business woman to finance her daughters' (Ann Blyth) high spending lifestyle. The thankless daughter runs Mildred though an emotional and financial roller coaster which includes attempting to take Mildreds love interest. This is a satisfying moive where in the end you'll be glad that the daughter (Ann Blyth) gets what she deservers.
This movie is one of the few that has stayed with me after watching it. It's easy to see why Joan Crawford won an Oscar for this.

this is one of my all time favorites. joan is at her best with the squared shoulders and strong eyebrows. she struggles as mildred to be a good mother and provide no matter what. even as her evil eldest daughter selfishly takes advantage. just awesome '40s storytelling. it's also fun to see old los angeles in the background. a must for any classic movie lover and especially a joan crawford fan.
